I'm intrigued because of the leads. I honestly enjoyed their off-screen chemistry more than I did their on-screen…
I completely agree with you. I felt the two of them did the best they could given the script, but for sure their off chemistry was much stronger than shown on-screen. Hopefully with a better script we can see their full potential.
Does anyone know if iQiyi will eventually release all the BTS with English subtitles? They seem to have stopped a couple of weeks ago so some of us cannot enjoy the interactions :-( Hope that Harper's Bazaar will also release more BTS footage. This couple seems to have more chemistry BTS than on it!
I actually liked this drama even with its flaws. I thought the chemistry between the ML and FL were best when they were happy. I cry every time I watch their separation scenes - the one where she agrees to leave him to save her family and the one where he comes to say farewell before going to the battlefield. There are real emotions that they conveyed but did not get many chances to showcase.
I wish the drama had more romance compared to angst / complicated political shenanigans. It felt like the chemistry between Joseph Zeng and Liang Jie were a bit wasted - they had a lot more chemistry during their live chat than was portrayed on-screen - there should have been more of the teasing and bantering vs horrible misunderstandings.
I hope that Joseph Zeng and Liang Jie will get a chance to work together again in the future to really take advantage of their chemistry. However, I do think that will be unlikely as this drama was the least popular out of the 3 Liang Jie dramas released this summer.
I think they have a pretty strong professional relationship, never seen Liang Jie being this level of precise…
I agree with all your points! I think there is obviously a closeness with her and Xing Zhaolin because they've worked together 4 times - he's always taking care of her in between scenes and they're very comfortable together.
I noticed the kissing is very different in this drama - they look so intense even though it seems there is a lot of giggling sometimes in between takes. They really leave no distance in between their bodies unlike their previous pairings. I love their hugs too, they just seem so close and passionate. Maybe that was due to the director but I've also rewatched several scenes because the romance seems so real!
The Harper's Bazaar shoot really pushed it over the edge for me. I loved all of their photos together. I dare say LJ has more chemistry with Steven than Xing Zhaolin. I've read comments that said this type of photoshoot is very rare as usually it's a solo shoot?
I'm hoping that eventually all of the BTS clips will have English subtitles. I can't tell if Steven and LJ's interactions are normal or not (for coworkers) :-) I've seen her joke around and tease with the MLs in her other dramas so maybe it's nothing out of the ordinary?
Finally after a lot of skipping I finished watching it ...for everyone who wants to drop it, I want to tell you…
Just a warning, I have a lot of questions about the last few episodes! Can someone explain why he pushes her to marry him in Ep 30? I thought that he couldn't intervene due to his power play and to avoid offending the Shen family. He seemingly gives it all up to marry her, but then keeps his distance after the wedding. My thought is his need to stop her from marrying someone else trumped his original plan? Also, it seems the 2nd wedding is as if he is marrying a 1st wife and not a concubine right?
I couldn’t picture liang jie with anyone else but she has great chemistry with Steven! He is such a good actor!!…
I totally agree. In general, I think Liang Jie has good chemistry with all her ML, but this pairing is exceptional (and unexpected). The photoshoot put it over the top for me :-) I would be shocked if they didn't collaborate again.
Most of dramas start good but got draggy in the middle and have unsatisfying ending. This drama is the contrary.…
I agree that the turning point in this drama for me started around episode 21 when the leads started being more honest and open with each other. I admit I cried quite a bit for the last third of the episodes! I actually love their chemistry and intensity, which is really amazing considering this is the first time they've worked together (especially the epic love scene). This drama is definitely not for the faint of heart, but I felt the end made up for the childishness in the beginning.
This series has a lot more angst than I expected. I thought it was going to be a romantic comedy more like The Eternal Love series. I do enjoy the chemistry between the leads. I am still hoping that the 2nd half will worth all the frustration of the 1st half in terms of romance. I do hope there is a happy ending otherwise there will be no point in watching this series! My prediction is he tries to get out of his arranged marriage by going to battle while she pursues her studies - both bettering themselves before ultimately reuniting.
