Pacing is a little slow considering 38 episodes. But episode 22 was pretty good, excited for the next ones.
The thing that scares me about shows like these are... we can't be sure that the show will get S2 (not to even mention S3) approved. Also, I hate when actors get changed in next seasons because it kinda messes up the fictional world I created to follow the story but a lot of these shows get different casts so it may happen.
I have WeTV and Viki and from my limited mandarin knowledge, it seems that WeTV translations are simplistic while Viki translations (which can vary since it's a team of volunteers) are very literal (what the dialogue says is what the subtitle says). I don't have MZTV so I'm not sure about that. But WeTV and Viki have both been pretty good, I never really noticed a moment where I thought the translations were off. The one benefit to WeTV (if watching with VIP) is that the episode releases right on time (matches mydramalist timer) while Viki releases a few hours later.
ep 22 was so much better than ep 21. this is why we need 2 ep/day cause they could really lose viewers if they put out episodes, that SHOULD be watched in succession, one at a time.
21 episodes in; if this was the director first experimenting an artistic fight scenes or different methods to…
ep 21 was the biggest let down so far. i feel like everyone has similar opinions about it... /: it was actually the first episode that i ever skipped scenes in so far
i was all praise for this drama and even paid WeTV vip to watch this a couple hours earlier than on Viki… but wtf was ep 21? he just stood there during the entire fight until the last moment when he was caught off guard. i can’t say much until I see the next episode because maybe he will clarify his actions and there will be more dialogue. Ep 21 was like purely fight scenes and not very good ones either. Our master with the wooden sword didn’t even seem all that strong? Like he was taking the entire fight to get back even though he knew he was pulled away from XFN as a distraction. Maybe I liked this drama so much because I watched ep 1-18 all in one sitting and things that could’ve felt iffy in those episodes were immediately clarified in the next episode which I was able to watch right away. Perhaps this drama is better binged. Idk tho, the director should’ve known that having one episode purely for the fight was not gonna be intriguing esp when the ML is just standing there. Oh and not to mention it seems next episode, there may be additional fights?
how everything/ most ppl are working to Xu Xiao/ Bei Liang's favour so far? Even the well known enemy of Xu Xiao/…
I genuinely feel like Xu Xiao could’ve led his army and his followers to take over the empire if he was hungry for power (which is why the empire is trying so hard to make sure Beiliang disappears).
I feel like I’d rather have three or four longer episodes per week than seven 40min episodes. Looking at the trailer, it seems the fight at the Mudlands last at least until episode 22… that’s literally three episodes for one scene. I was so excited to watch the fight in episode 20 and turns out we only got tot the beginning of it. 🥴
My first impression of Jiang Ni was that she would be an annoying female interest that followed Xu Feng Nian everywhere,…
reminds me of joy of life, the ML there also had a bunch of other female characters surrounding him and literally all of the female characters were likeable. makes sense that this drama is similar with subtle hints of polygamy since it's the same writer.
i was the same as you, thought jiang ni would be annoying but i really like her character!
ew I can’t believe Lord Jing’an took his son’s lover and made her his consort and publicized her as someone he “loves dearly”. I have a strong feeling that XFN will use the consort -lover of son and father- and include himself in that equation by openly flirting with the consort and putting all the blame onto the consort so that they can leave safely
I am so glad I found out about this drama! Usually politics in historical dramas are so dragged and I always skip scenes but in this drama, I am so invested in it (duh it's the whole plot). When the comments say this is as good as Joy of Life, I was hesitant to believe it because tbh the trailers of Chinese dramas always look so silly and low budget but wow, it truly is as good as Joy of Life. I don't see how this will be completed in 38 episodes considering how the journey XFN is on seems like it's going to be longer than the remaining episodes left. I hope it remains at this steady pace because I don't feel like it's draggy or too fast at all.
omg ep 1 was sooo good? it doesn't seem like the rumors of history distortion is true at all. in fact, the show makes it clear that the govt was being super aggressive with peaceful protestors
why tf did pildo die? like what tf was the fking point of him dying? there was like absolutely 0 reason… it doesn’t contribute to the plot I’m so annoyed
very difficult to understand the fl and the entire premise of this drama when her motivation to all of this is her father’s murder. her father was a part of a large criminal organization and supposedly killed by a police officer, not that strange imo and not enough of story to drive her to put her entire life into this.
i was the same as you, thought jiang ni would be annoying but i really like her character!
