At the start of the drama the comments section was flooded with lots of negative comments. I was excited to watch…
It’s worth watching at least for its originality in the characters, for Ri Ran who interprets his character in a very original and superb way, for the much-desired chemistry between the ML and FL, and there are also beautiful scenes and many other things…

The beginning was mainly confusing because a lot of characters were introduced all at once, and the opening was shortened, so for people who haven’t read the book it was difficult to keep track. But I don’t think it’s necessary to remember every single character, since some of them only appear for one or two episodes. The important ones keep coming back anyway, so you can’t really miss the main plot. The overall idea of the story is very interesting

Exactly. I completely agree with you about both dramas. I watch both, and this drama is different.

“Thank you! Yes, I didn’t like this version either. It has a very modern, Hollywood-style vision (a bit vulgarized). I only saw some clips, but they didn’t make me want to watch it.

You’re right! For GtG, I originally came because of Yi Ran, since I really liked his last three projects. I think he’s a very talented young actor who knows how to choose projects that have real substance. And each time, he’s able to defend and carry his roles well. I wasn’t wrong, because it is indeed interesting—even with its imperfections, it’s good.

As for the other project, I’m watching it too and I think it’s very well executed. I especially like the female character and how she is written so far. I think Ling He has a very solid and large fanbase, which contributes a lot. He also has a strong screen presence and he knows how to play romantic scenes well. However, he hasn’t really shown more nuanced acting yet (multi-layered performances, inner or introspective acting). Even so, his acting remains solid overall.

The actress there is playing very well and the director is doing an excellent job, but the storyline is quite predictable.

When it comes to dramatic acting (even if he doesn’t yet have a lot of technical experience, he naturally brings multi-layered and introspective acting and strong character creation), I would clearly give my preference to Yi Ran, despite his younger age.

Ah haha, thank you very much — that’s probably the effect of watching too many sentimental things . In any case, it’s really a pleasure to exchange thoughts with all of you about this drama.

I would say that even if "Jade" (the neighboring room with the 9.0 rating) has a very powerful start in terms of characters, direction, star power, and charm, this room actually has much more substance. It feels less predictable and dramaturgically more intense, rather than simply commercially attractive.

Of course, it still has its commercial side too — with beautiful landscapes and even a bit of a honeymoon-like mood in the middle episodes — but there’s clearly more depth to work with here (i think)

100 agrée with you !!!
If I remember correctly, we had a very similar and interesting discussion about this in Glory :)) In a way, I’m repeating myself here, but my view remains the same: equality in a relationship does not mean needing no one. On the contrary, it is born when two free people recognize that the other truly matters in their life. To love is neither to dominate nor to disappear. When one crushes the other—whether woman or man—the relationship becomes a struggle for power rather than a true meeting. Real equality lies in a simple reciprocity: remaining oneself while accepting that the other matters to us, moves us, completes us in some ways, and may have strengths we do not. And sometimes, their absence reminds us just how much they mean...

Same for me — there are just too many things to watch and read… It’s practically a remake, I assure you. 😉

And personally, it’s one of my favorite novels of all time ( but very dark) . If you like this type of ML here, you will absolutely love it there, because in the novel it truly reaches the level of a masterpiece ;)

And the way Yi Ran interprets his role is exactly how I imagine both characters — Heathcliff and his son — as well as Catherine’s daughter, in Cai Zao. For me, everything made sense up until the confession, and after that things changed a bit.

Still, it remains interesting, and we’ll see how the story develops. I think that once she finally discovers who is really behind the man in black, she will at last find peace with herself and move closer to the ML. She will probably want to resolve the problem with the man in black and, in doing so, encourage the ML to step out of this cycle of revenge.

Now, coming back to this work, I think this wuxia drama is strongly inspired by the famous novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. I’ll explain my point of view about that novel, and then you can make your own connections with the series.

Heathcliff, an orphan, grows up with Catherine, and they become inseparable. They develop a very intense love. (In the drama, this would correspond to the previous generation.) When Catherine’s father dies, her brother Hindley becomes the master of the house and mistreats Heathcliff. Meanwhile, Catherine marries Edgar in order to gain a better social position, even though she deeply loves Heathcliff. Heathcliff overhears this and runs away.

Years later, he returns rich and mysterious. He then seeks revenge on everyone who humiliated him: he ruins Catherine’s brother and manipulates Catherine’s sister-in-law, marrying her out of revenge. During this time, Catherine dies, and Heathcliff becomes obsessed with her memory.

Then comes the second generation (which is similar to the drama). Catherine’s daughter falls in love with Heathcliff’s son, and this finally ends the cycle of hatred.

Heathcliff represents vengeance and wild passion—an exclusive love that eventually transforms into hatred. Catherine is free and wild as well; she loves Heathcliff but chooses social security and status instead.

In the second generation, Catherine’s daughter, Cathy, symbolizes the one who will break this cycle of hatred. She works on Hareton’s behavior (Heathcliff’s son). At the beginning he is rough and unable to love anyone, but eventually he becomes capable of change and of repairing the mistakes of the past.

For me, this is truly a classic of classics, and we can clearly see how the connection with this series might appear.

First of all, regarding Glory, you were right about one thing: I didn’t like the dynamic between the characters. For me it felt unbalanced. I personally prefer relationships that show that we actually need our other half in some way. If both people are completely autonomous in everything, then what is the point of having someone beside us? Of course, a person can be capable and strong, but showing that the other person plays an important role in our life is, in my opinion, essential for a balanced relationship.

For me, this matters especially when a story tries to promote positive heroes or heroines. If it is a tragic work or an anti-hero story, then I have nothing to say—I am ready to appreciate it and reflect on it differently.

the male cast also full of handsome hotties
And for now they have kind personalities—gentle, strong, and not arrogant! Which is rare in dramas when it comes to female characters. We’ll see about the rest; I hope they won’t change.

Yeah. Female lead is annoying now. I gave her the benefit of the doubt early, but now she's just being intentionally…
Which doesn’t change the fact that she keeps circling around him like a cat (All the while maintaining a façade of pride and indifference) , only to push him away in a rather dramatic way whenever he’s the one who finally takes a step forward.

Nevertheless, I’m still watching with great interest. First of all because of Yi Ran and his excellent performance!!!!!! but also because I’m curious to see how everything will ultimately unfold. What is also quite positive is that we are already close to the end of the series and my interest has remained constant throughout — which is actually quite rare for me.

Long accidental rant, if you are fully enjoying this show, please do yourself and your mental health and further…
I find myself strongly agreeing with your rant, particularly regarding the imbalance in the relationships portrayed in many dramas. It is something I notice — and end up reflecting on — in almost every series I watch lately.

These dynamics are often presented as if they were designed to appeal to a female audience, yet paradoxically the effect is often the opposite. The male lead gradually appears almost martyr-like — or, in contemporary terms, the embodiment of the “green flag.” Meanwhile, the female lead is framed as representing a kind of feminist statement. But in truth, this framing feels misleading. What we are actually witnessing is simply another form of imbalance, not fundamentally different from the older narratives where the roles were reversed.

A relationship built on such asymmetry can perhaps find its narrative legitimacy within tragedy — where imbalance, sacrifice, and emotional dissonance serve a deliberate dramatic purpose.
