Yeahh… I caught that too.. I’m pretty sure he got some job that was related to scarlet guard. Even how he responded to ruyi while they are on a date was suspicious. He didn’t meet her eyes and there are lots of hesitations when he answer about being a male lover.

I thought zhao ji hired someone to kill him in the battlefield so I never thought of that.

The problem is he was demoted as military chef so most likely he was at the back of the military formation. But maybe since he was famous they respect him at somehow lead a squad there..

I don’t think chai ming is still alive.. but we will never know..
