I'm a little lost here, why would the drama not pass censorship?
This became a censorship thing around 2011. The Chinese media authority started banning time travel and transmigration plots because they said it distorted history and promoted “feudal superstitions.” But also, they were really worried about how it would affect young people. Like, they thought it would make them want to escape reality and just live in fantasy worlds instead of valuing real life or socialist values. That’s why a lot of dramas have to make it a dream or a book or a VR game or something, just to get approved.

Heading off to watch the final episodes now, gotta get there before the ppl who judge an entire drama by its ending show up and mess with the vibe. But before that, I just wanted to say how pleasantly surprised I’ve been by the comment section throughout the airing. For once, it felt like everyone was actually enjoying the show. Barely any pointless negativity, just honest, fair critiques when needed. I’ll probably rate this one pretty high, honestly. It’s been a solid, enjoyable watch. Had a great time with it!

Also, I wanted to highlight the bunny demon actor’s performance because I actually think he nailed it for me. He really captured the cluelessness, the young, immature, deadpan vibe that made total sense for the character.

I don’t know if it was intentional, but it came across as really solid acting. You could genuinely feel that he was a bunny demon, especially in the way his values and priorities felt a bit skewed.

what kind of idiotic statement is that?
It’s a fair comment though. Ren Jialun’s dramas are often melodramatic or end on a sad note, and they typically don’t have kiss scenes. That’s just his usual style, and it’s known he’s selective with roles since he’s married and has a kid. It’s not hate, some people just prefer different types of dramas and skip his work for that reason.

That said, OP, if you’re reading this one is actually surprisingly romantic for him. We’ve already gotten two kiss scenes, which is rare.

Okay, I don’t know guys, only six episodes left and I’m still not sure how they’re gonna wrap it all up. There are so many loose ends. Will we even get a satisfying ending? The sus mother, the underground uncle who helped them but is kinda sus and mysterious, like, is his arc even finished? And the causality sword? It was unshielded… what exactly changed in their world? Do we think there’s gonna be a part two? Or is this really it?

The preview for the next episode has me so curious. This drama has been incredibly original so far, and I can never predict what’s going to happen next. If you’re debating starting this or wondering if it’s any good, just start it. It’s a hidden gem!

Unfortunately the ratings on MDL are always like this. Remember Filter for instance, both the First Frost and…
couldn't agree more about Filter

I am normally not obsessed with ratings in MDL, but quite surprise that for this show, it’s so low. With such…
Yeah, I’m honestly surprised by how little attention this is getting and the rating on MDL so far. From what I’ve seen, I would’ve pegged this as an S-tier project. It seems like they were aiming for a bigger hit, especially with Ren Jialun as the male lead and Song Zu’er, who’s also had solid success before the scandal.

The production budget feels high, and it really shows in the visuals, editing, and effects. Another big tell is the number of guest actors, they brought in quite a few recognizable names, which usually signals high expectations.

I’m also curious how it’s actually doing in China. I haven’t followed the promo cycle closely, and maybe it’s been more low-key because of Zu’er? Not sure. But everything about this screams S-tier drama to me.

I feel like even though banxia is a timid character, she's not annoyingly weak like other characters I've seen…
part of it is because the actress is good, she's giving the character dimension with her acting
