romance as a genre gets so much hate and derision that I'm half convinced it's fulled by misogyny (because it's…
yeah, didn't wanna say it directly because i got jumped one time i did, but it's honestly true. content consumed by mainly female audiences is always more likely and quickly to be judged, many times by women themselves. internalized misogyny is a much larger problem than people think.
There is a lot of subtle comment about resume vs experience, promotion vs capabilities, seniority vs being a good…
yup!! it's all there, not very hard to spot if you've already worked a job and lived through similar experience. i'm someone who worked pretty much the exact same job as sarang (hotel front desk agent) and that one scene of the rich woman asking for a free room upgrade for no reason was as if they just took a scene out of my life LOL. and i suppose in asia or in a country like korea where seniority and hierarchy is so deeply ingrained in culture, surviving the workplace must be an even harder challenge, i'm glad they're doing it justice here. also what i really like is how we're getting more commentary on this topic in a setting that mainly concerns service workers, since themes like workplace injustice seem mostly reserved for dramas set in the typical corporate office space.
I love it! My one hope for this drama is that we avoid the break up/separation trope if we're getting them together…
if i look at some classic scenes we've had so far, like the one of the exes wanting to get back together, or the ML asking the FL out for the first time, i'm actually pretty surprised how they handled it so far. when sa rang's ex came back, it was mostly her who defended herself and told him off instead of gu won doing it all for her like we often see MLs do (got a cute scene where he's looking all impressed when sa rang said she'll kill his ex if he returns lol). and when he asked her out, it was in a super normal and straightforward way, not making it extra awkward or pushy for her. and it was so cute! so there's hope we'll have the lesser liked tropes done organically as well.

yeahhh i mean this is a classic romcom after all, so we'll definitely have to deal with the usual roadblocks but i'm holding onto the fact that in interviews before the show aired, both leads emphasized the drama being mainly a fun, refreshing watch. so i hope we can sail through the separation phase smoothly!
i can't stop thinking about this lol... gu won just skipping the usual episodes-long denial phase and straight…
and all i've been doing since catching up with this is binging yoona/junho content on youtube, this drama is effectively on its way to turn my brain into soup.....and i'm glad bc this only happens once in a blue moon for me but yay!!! i missed having fun and going crazy over a drama so much. tropes or not whatever i don't care. spare some serotonin please it's all i'm asking for after an exhausting day at work.
on the note of yoona/junho: have y'all seen the bts of their photoshoot.. ...have y you seen it...... ha ve y-
i can't stop thinking about this lol... gu won just skipping the usual episodes-long denial phase and straight up accepting the fact that he's 100% whipped for sa rang over some damn buzzfeed pop quiz like, oh yeah it tells me i have a crush.. yeah makes sense i guess. and in episode 3 at that like this man is so unserious it's actually hilarious to me π chaebeol male lead of all time i fear!!!!
"this drama has no substance" yea as if one of the main themes isn't about how service workers feel the need to work above their basic job requirements to stay ahead in the workplace and how the mantra of "doing everything for the customer" is often abused by the customer as well as the employer.. but ofc the drama gets written off immediately just bc it's a feelgood romcom lol. edit: i love the way they've done this topic justice so far, because i remember saying how i expected the drama to just romanticize the hotel job as a romcom, so glad it wasn't the case! and with sarang's friends, it's nice that we get a peek into other different service jobs at the same time.
it's currently in the top 10 of JTBC dramas (according to the viewership I found on wikipedia), I'll be curious…
with the track record it's got going rn, i wonder if it can get close to the rating monsters like reborn rich etc.. i would love it if a romcom gets ratings this high next to all those makjangs :'')
I haven't laughed this much since Dali and the Cocky Prince. The sidewalk therapy session with the police officer…
right, it's just so damn funny π it's been a while since a drama has made me laugh so much too! (dali was one of them) i literally find myself waiting for serious scenes so i can give my face muscles a rest because they really hurt hahaha
The premise sounds like yet another ordinary chaebol drama but everyone below is raving. So this is good?
honestly, it sure is. but would i rather have a chaebol drama that is done nicely, deals with tropes in refreshing ways, make me smile and feel good everytime i watch it instead of a drama with a novel premise that ends up disappointing? any day.
last time i got excited over "sexy lawyers" was strangers again and that didnt end well lmao. lets hope this one…
yeah!! i was just glad he got a lead role at last, but the fact that the premise is enticing is a nice cherry on top. lol, i'm happy i jumped ship early with strangers again. i don't think i would have gotten much out of it if i had continued watching
granny is definitely my "i have only known her for five minutes but if anything were to happen to her i would…
i'm a having a field day with the grandma. the way she immediately made gu won an employee and made him peel onions (horribly, but its ok ily gu won). she saw an opportunity and took it LMAO
there are many dramas with high(er) ratings every year, but when it's a romcom people immediately jump to say it doesn't deserve it. simple, most people who are watching it are having fun with it and are enjoying it. that's not enough to warrant giving it a good rating? we all know MDL ratings (and most other sites like asianwiki, viki etc.) work that way, this isn't rotten tomatoes critics score lol, what do you expect? most regular users give a show a high rating without considering every single aspect of it critically, simply if they like what they see. and even IF you consider this drama critically, there really isn't that much wrong with it? wether it adheres to clichΓ©s or not, i'm pretty sure all a romcom needs to do is be well written & acted, funny, and have good chemistry between its leads. KTL is doing all of that right so far, at least the majority agree as far as i can tell.
i find it interesting how there are like tons of mediocre at best crime/thriller dramas being released every year (esp. these days) that are probably very clichΓ© in their own ways and yet barely anyone complains about it, but then we have like one (1) very popular romcom that has fun with its tropes, people just love to complain. don't wanna say what that could imply, you may figure that out by yourself... anyways i'm going back to watching the junho/yoona videos π
