cant always be sure about speculations, idk if there were clear proof of there being romance before the release…
IIRC there was a teaser that highlighted the moments between the leads and it said "romance is coming", so I guess it was obvious for this drama at least
So,, that man in 403 – it seems it's really Gyeo Re's father? Or am I mistaken? It did use to be Supervisor Kang Tae Shik's old room but he doesn't know about who is in it now, since he wasn't able to open the room with the keypad, which means he's also clueless as to who's in there. I wonder if the other people at the hospice know. From that one flashback of Gyeo Re's childhood, it seems like his father knew KTS. So if he is now a patient at the hospice, he could've wanted to keep his stay there a secret, because he'd be too ashamed to face him. What if he also regrets the mistakes he made in the past? And what if,,, Gyeo Re will have to confront his father, who abused him when he was young and who he only resented ever since, as a now terminally ill patient at the hospice? Omg. I can feel a lot of angst coming. This might be the biggest can of worms we have to open, even bigger than Joon Kyungs 🤧
I thought it was pretty amazing as well. It was like an entire drama compressed into one scene. I am really liking…
I really like that too, good point! some of those stories could very much be used to fill up an entire episode or two, but they're concisely written so that they don't take up all too much space and aren't too heavy, letting the viewer breathe a little while giving the story enough room to develop the ML and other characters' relationships (as that is still the main focus). I've heard people complain about lack thereof with "case of the week" kind of dramas like Tomorrow. I haven't seen that one yet but I read some where upset about the cases getting in the way of the characters' development. So I'm glad If You Wish Upon Me knows how to balance that nicely as well.
Why do I have a feeling we’re gonna get a sad ending
Agree with @bloomingtide, I also don't think this drama is the type to go for a sad ending. I know that we're all scared that Gyeo Re might actually die or be terminally ill as well (I'd be lying if didn't consider that too) but I don't think that's where his arc is supposed to go. Truthfully, I think it would be rather cruel for the writer to have our ML go through all these hardships and overcome them when joining the hospice, only then to reverse all that and not have him be a happy, fulfilled person by the end. It wouldn't match the tone of the drama.
Another phenomenal episode! First, this ep had me crying at the ahjumma making Gyeo Re read *that* of all books (it's art, alright lol), then the development between Yeon Joo and him being so perfectly done their scenes never fail to either make me scream into my pillow or just tug at my heartstrings (the way he repeated her tattoo.....i'm not okay...i can feel the hurt/comfort scenes coming y'all), then making me actually cry, no SOB during the scene between Deok Ja and Mr. Hwang. This might've been the moment I cried the hardest during the entire show because it just completely caught me off guard, like I didn't expect that at all. I had some thoughts about what Deok Ja's story could be since I felt they'd be incorporating hers into the drama soon but I never expected it to be this heartbreaking. Then I'm back to giggling at Gyeo Re embarrassing himself in front of Yeon Joo's brother ("I'm from the vegetable garden outside" PLSSS) and just when I thought I was done I'm crying again because of Supervisor Kang. In the midst of all that, Joon Kyung's reappearance is making me worry but I also want her to be finally properly introduced to the story, because she too deserves to live a better life, even if her road to healing looks like it might be one of the bumpiest out of any so far.
This drama is literally out here making me experience the entire range of human emotions every week, but it keeps getting better and successfully worms its way into my heart more and more every time 😭❤️ Rating pls go 🔝🔝🔝
ep 3 was SO funny I laughed my ass off omg,,, they're really doing a Good Job™ with the comedy in this drama!!…
and that scene at the end where they were tied up together....I DIED... was expecting it to be more romantic from the trailer but it gave me such secondhand embarrassment watching it hahaha + Yang Jin Mo's expression when he found them jdsfjaksda
ep 3 was SO funny I laughed my ass off omg,,, they're really doing a Good Job™ with the comedy in this drama!! absolutely loving the dynamics between all the main leads, but I'm especially enjoying Yang Jin Mo, he had so many good parts (that balloon scene 😭😭😭) he might become my fav character lol
Finally caught up, now i am with the weekly waiting crew. Not to be that person, but coming fresh from having…
nice to see you joining in on this drama! I've had Move To Heaven on my watchlist for the longest time (but put it off since I'm a heavy crier and wanna be emotionally ready for it lol) and seeing people compare IYWUM to it makes me want to finally watch it, although I'm getting scared it won't live up to the "masterpiece"-hype it receives from everyone here and so on. The reason I'm loving this one so much is that while it does deal with such heavy themes as death etc., it's still a lot lighter because the overall tone of the drama feels much more hopeful; there are positive resolutions and you can tell that's it's supposed to be a healing drama. It still makes me cry buckets, but it's more cathartic than anything. And yeppp it seems like there is so much more to discover and I'm super excited to find out 😭
i saw some comments on another forum stating that they thought this drama should be rated r due to the frequency…
I've noticed that in the subs for some other dramas on Viki as well. Did they change the way they translate or something? For example, the ㅅ/ㅆ ("sh.." so almost the ㅅㅂ word meaning shit/fuck) sound Koreans will often say after whatever exclamation they made to show annoyance. Like saying "Ah, really.." will be "아 진짜 씨–" which isn't really cursing per se, but almost so the subs sometimes just don't include it. You'll hear characters say stuff like "아 ㅆ..." very often and most drama subtitles, like Netflix's, will usually just translate it as "damn it" or smth instead since they don't say the whole thing anyways. But Viki will just straight up translate it recently?? 😂 I wonder what's up with that since it seems like it wasn't like this before. But they'd do fine without constantly putting in the excessive cursing in the subs imho
I feel like this drama will be my "Business Proposal" of the new season! Something that's light and fun to watch alongside heavier shows where you need all your braincells and pay attention to lots of stuff etc. and throws in many familiar k-drama tropes (we pretty much have 2016 tropes galore here: chaebols with secrets, FLs with superpowers etc etc), combined with the lead's chemistry and creates a refreshing mix that makes you look forward to it every week. And it's got 12 eps as well, what are the odds lol. Hoping this will be a keeper 🙏
We're seeing more and more of Joon Kyung and I'm really intrigued. She seems like a really dark, complicated character. I wanna know more about her relationship with Gyeo Re, because when his friend asked him about her he said nothing and just left. He didn't contact her even once or tried to look for her despite obviously being close to her in the past. It's clear that now he doesn't want anything to do with her anymore. Like someone below already mentioned; he saw her as his sister at the orphanage and wanted to protect her but she grew unhealthily emotionally attached to him and eventually became obsessed with him. I'm pretty sure that when they attempted to commit suicide, she was the one who initiated it because maybe she thought that since they share similar pain, he would go along with it? Gyeo Re did seem extremely scared and ended up running away too, so he must have had a change of heart in the last second. Joon Kyung seems even more lost and damaged, the gloominess behind her eyes is telling. Unlike with Gyeo Re, where you can easily sense his softness despite him putting up a front, she hides her true self even better. There's no hidden warmth in her expression, nothing. From what we've seen she's snarky towards Seok Joon, but always utterly cold. While Gyeo Re is obviously desperate to find happiness in life, she seems to have given up completely. I'm interested (and a little scared) to see what happens when they meet again!!
