rewatching again and i'm at ep 12 and man remembering the times when this aired and seeing hordes of people saying this show is "shallow", has no depth, substance etc. makes me laugh... because anyone who ever actually worked in an industry like the hotel industry or even set foot in any type of corporate environment (or i'd even argue - worked any job at all, but then again media literacy these days is dead so oh well lmao) would know that that's not the case. the entire theme around emotional labour aside, the things gu won is saying and trying to do with the company are valuable and important, if only it worked out like this in the real world more often, things would look a whole lot different :')
LND has been pretty solid so far, but I am confused by it being titled as a 'romcom'. I haven't seen many dramas…
i think it may have to do with the fact that it's a tvn drama. tvn specializes in all-rounder dramas with a focus on romance and comedy, but they usually always throw in another genre or two. if you look at many other romance shows from them (think qot, lovely runner, cloy, castaway diva, the king, marry my husband, twinkling watermelon, or esp. crash course in romance where ppl complained about the intense plotline) notice that they're never purely just romcom but always have some drama, thriller, fantasy, etc. in them. generally it's the big budget, highly aniticipated works with popular actors that get the weekend timeslots that are like this. the reason why people get mad is that tvn still markets most of these shows as mostly romance, especially when the lead couple is heavily promoted and even more so when there are no apparent supernatural elements and the dramatic angsty elements only show themselves a few episodes in.
