Episode 15 makes it clear to me - without needing to narrate it! other C-dramas please learn - why the Emperor…
Yeah I'm not debating the morality of his actions, just that his motivations are now clearer to me. It takes a good show to let the audience understand the nuances of the villain's personality and beliefs, and not just 'Oh, he's a big bad guy'
However we feel about the Emperor, it's very hard to deny that he's excellent at fulfilling what this role requires. Superb politicking, far-sighted ambitions, and a bastion of imperial fear and awe. Bravo to the screenplay/novel, and to Chen Daoming for portraying all these so subtly yet powerfully
The veteran actors are so. damn. good. No need for big emotions or narrating an inner dialogue - a barely perceptible eye twitch and a look is all they need to show me how they're feeling. This is one of the rare shows I watch in 1x speed (usually 1.75x) just so I can capture all these micro-expressions
This is too good not to share. A fan-made MV for the ending song, mostly using clips from season 1 (not enough material from S2 yet after all), each scene matches the lyrics perfectly. It's Fan Xian's personal anthem: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1PH4y1u7My
I am actually doing quality check for this drama for a few OTT platform and i am shocked that wetv is actually…
Ooooo inside scoop. What kind of changes were made, if you can share? It does sound a lot like the working style of Chinese media companies; it's incredibly competitive there and they'd be hyper-sensitive to audience feedback, especially for such a big show that's also being aired on CCTV
Yeap, that's also what I tell myself every time I add to cart
