Same here. I absolutely adore the leads but imo the heavy focus on hunting demons is what really makes this show…
Yes! The romance also helps showcase the best of their personalities. Banxia's girlishness never detracts from her forwardness (how cute was she when advocating for XY to the neighbours and her parents), and Xuanye is stoic but always takes BX seriously whether she's upset or daydreaming of becoming a kungfu master overnight. (Oh and because of this I'll forgive the childhood friends cliche). It applies to the secondary characters too - we don't get much screentime with Sima but her approach to marriage really shows her chivalry and independence.
Campy, flawed and over-eager in the way that only J-dramas manage to pull off. It plays out like a manga adapted…
Finished it. Did not like how the characters developed in the later half - not convinced by their motivations and kinda irritated by Ichigo's servility. But there's enough going on plot-wise to keep watching, and it's only 9 eps after all.
Almost 15 years on and I still remember how much I enjoyed this show. The OST is also legendary - and heavily used by Chinese variety shows, which means I'm reminded of this show ever so often. I kinda doubt it but seriously hope the composers are being paid their rightful copyright fees
Campy, flawed and over-eager in the way that only J-dramas manage to pull off. It plays out like a manga adapted to live-action. Don't let its ridiculousness get in the way of enjoying this show.
I can see the effort made to make this show a "quality" "有质感" production, but it seems to have forgotten the most important aspect of any TV drama - it needs to be entertaining enough for audiences to want to watch on. Even within an episode I find myself drifting away. I understand why it got 7.9 on douban, but also see why the pool of reviewers is so small
Apparently I watched this before and gave it an 8 then but revisiting my watchlist now and I absolutely no impression or recollection of this show. Production value is decent but everything else is kinda mid
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Really well casted too, even/especially Pi Han Ul - there's something very grounded and believable about the actor's portrayal of a webtoon villain. I neeeeed more shows like this with a gang of unique characters instead of focusing on just 2 main leads
I followed the second half of R1SE's group career ever since they appeared on Chuang 2020, so it spoils the anticipation needed to watch survival shows unfortunately. I watch clips of C2019 here and there especially when there's an actor or soloist that catches my eye from other shows though! Zhang Yuan and Tiger Hu in CMBF3 and Li Yunrui most recently
I personally don't find any of the characters particularly charismatic or likeable, and there's nothing innovative or gripping about this show's format. But the writing is internally consistent and there's enough plot to keep me watching throughout, instead of scrubbing through 5 different random points of every episode - which is more than I can say for a lot of dramas I 'finished watching' recently. The high douban score is well-deserved I think
It applies to the secondary characters too - we don't get much screentime with Sima but her approach to marriage really shows her chivalry and independence.
