Saved up the last few episodes so I could finish it in one shot. There are definite flaws especially with the pacing/editing in the second half, but 7.5 is unwarranted
If you're like me - loves historical dramas for the action, visuals and suspension of disbelief, but gets impatient at romance scenes - this is a solid watch where the plot goes quick, the fight choreo is well done, and we get interesting fleshed-out side characters.
As someone who read the novel in Chinese couple years back, I'd say this is a fair adaptation of key plot points from the book to broadcast TV requirements.

The actor's portrayal of the yakuza boss character feels very natural and nuanced. A real pity he's only going to be around for a few episodes (per the usual Taxi Driver format) bc his acting chops could definitely flesh out a full 16-episode drama villain. Liking this season so far! Need to revisit S1 and 2 while I wait out the remaining episodes T_T

Yeap she's formally the First Madam of the Wei family. It's not translated in the English subs but all the other wives/madams also call her 大姐姐/big sister so it's also implied that she's also older in age
