damn how time flies tho, i enjoyed every week and discussion here since due to its length of 50 eps a true community…
Yeah this is why I don't bother with most comment sections here these days. I just watch the show and take here and there a cursory glance at them, if at all lol. In this way this comment section has been and still is different bc it reflects the passion and or disappointment we have with TRHC instead you know act like monkeys and fling our poo at each other, or the actors lmao ๐ฉ๐
I see i have gathered quite the reputation here in regards of Taekyung, hahahaha. I'm honored. So here my long…
That is fair, however I would not call TK a sociopath that is waaaaaay too harsh on him. Not to mention wrong, lol. What he did, after all the abuse, loneliness and constant disappointment with people around him suffered is a trauma response, a self protection mechanism, not malice or indifference for the world around him per se. Yes, he was outwardly cold and distant but that was all a defense mechanism, an abuse survivor technique, if you will. In order to not get hurt further, he closed off emotionally, held everyone at armsโ length. He needed that in order to protect himself emotionally from further harm because i do believe without that he would have not turned out that well-adjusted in the sense of his moral compass and emotional awareness that he does possess.
It shows in the first episode alone with him going out of his way to carry the woman who just scribbled on his car into the ER instead to just call an ambulance and call it a day and it continues with taking care of his patient's baby girl (nice foreshadowing lol) in episode 2 for example. He may grouse and protest but he is always (un)willingly stepping up because he knows it is the right thing to do. I think with YD at this point, helping her and giving her advice and such is easier bc there is no emotional attachment yet, or bad history of hurt like with his family where he feels the need to distance himself from emotionally and physically in order to stay sane. Yes, it is a way of giving up on them and deeper emotional connections in general, because you think what is the point, you just get hurt again... so it is better this way, easier. (aka keep everyone at arms' length.) He has no trust in people not to hurt him again in case of him letting go of these layers and layers of thorns and be laid bare. (I did write a character very similar to him, prickly on the outside, softie inside with the same โI do not care but i care a lotโ attitude, so i get him a lot lol)
So he is going through life, always coasting on the sideline of it, sufficient but not enough, with rules in place for orientation and keep his distance and others in check (with his ex, he followed her rules to a T never initiating something on his own accord, and broke it off when she broke his rules without much regret. Shows that he wasnโt emotionally invested enough here in order to do this so easily. Yet for his ex wanting to marry him despite that rule of non-marriage, he had done things right by her. I am convinced he treated his partners well and was considerate, just not emotionally fully there, but I digress lol) His cold attitude kept people away, but it did not work with YD, like at all, lol. She challenged him when no other dared and got under his skin when no other could. He started to go out of his way to help her without even noticing it, pretty much from the get go (single mother conference) and was disappointed when she did not thank him for it (the hotel incident) lol. As yeah TK started to feel attracted to her after his feverish sick night, probably because no one has cared for him in this way for a long time, so it left a mark. YD continued to get in between his shell and layers of thorns even without trying and with her, helping and be helped, he could be himself, no pretense no distance needed. We always saw glimpses of the person Taekyung really is when he has someone who understands and accepts him like he is, a good heart underneath it all, not cold at all.
Sure after moving in together he tried to continue his keep the distance and the others exist on the other side of the fence approach ignore them lalalala spiel and wanted YD to do the same. But it obviously did not work so he adjusted himself for her sake and apologized later on to her. Kinda the classic โmeeting the one person where your prior bs does not work on, but also methinks that he has always yearned for a real (emotional) connection beneath all the cold, distant veneer, bc in the end he is only human, after all. Taekyung found it unexpectedly in YD and her family. Which is probably why we saw such an enthused golden retriever phase with him as soon he had sorted his feelings out for her, bc daaaamn this guy has had a LOT to catch up on. Like all these feelings suddenly there and bubbling over, must have been overwhelming lol. The poor man was starved for affection and attention beyond a mere physical level, to connect to someone on a deeper emotional level and find acceptance there. To have a place to belong of his own, and it is what YD did and meant to him. No wonder he wasnโt able to give up on her as it would have meant to give up on every bit of emotional wellbeing carved out for himself in spite of it all.
Thus I agree here that this made everything YD did in lieu of this, her breaking her promise, running away and leaving him in the dust for a year extra-cruel. Because for months he was left there to fend for himself after being left bare by her, no shell no thorns to hide behind, until he regressed or rather escaped into familiar behavioral pattern. Almost as tho he was self-soothing, that stop to care, once more. But we all know that it did not last long after YD reappeared even as he tried, lol. And here he is almost too forgiving, too goody with her, then in my view. But yeah, I can also understand him not wanting to give up, not on her and what he'd found with her. To follow the wish to give it another try, despite the hurt and everything. And since he is basically the only guy tolerating her bullshit she is pulling, he is also the ultimate husband for her, which I hope she finally starts to value.
But yeah, bottom line is Taekyung is the kind of guy who says he does not care but deep down actually cares a lot. And if he does not, it is most likely because you are an asshole and deserve it lmao. In this regard his emotional detachment is even healthy bc cutting off/ou toxic ppl from your life is much better than letting them further ruin it, especially emotionally. And in other instances, he rarely ignores someone in need/who needs help, if ever. In fact, he is someone who is loyal/devoted to a fault, once you gained his trust/affection. Like, to his own detriment, even. Hence why I hope we see YD meeting him halfway in the last 10 eps, at last, to balance things out a little.
I see i have gathered quite the reputation here in regards of Taekyung, hahahaha. I'm honored. So here my long af what was meant as reply to @la drama fan's post but took on a life of its own bc i can never shut up about Taekyung, lmao. Hence i throw it on here as a standalone post, under spoiler tag bc i am considerate like that for once ๐
i um, wrote a reply regarding TK and where i disagree but that became a post on its own which i will submit later…
hmm, yeah i remember that, so i checked praying it wasn't true and we are lucky. So could be the daily that was meant or the weekender AFTER TRHC's follow up dunno, but Hyo Shim's independent life's writer nor pd are those hellspawns thankfully xD
i um, wrote a reply regarding TK and where i disagree but that became a post on its own which i will submit later…
hahaha yeah the bullshit carousel keeps spinning indeed and i am gonna ride it to the end wheeeeeeee xD Get a good rest too and see ya tomorrow, heh.
oh btw, i checked screenwriter and pd of the upcoming weekender and none of them were involved in YLAG? So you may confuse something here ;) The writer did Father i'll take care of you last as a weekender. oh wait, mother of mine is her latest weekend drama work. So quite the veteran writer regarding these types of show. Have not seen any of those yet so cannot say anything about them
I look up in Google about abusive man in relationship, gosh, JH character ticks all the boxes! Very scary man…
Yeah i had small hope for this cockroach after eps 30 for change but that was quickly destroyed and driven to the deep end. JH is textbook abuser, the type of guy where you are his property instead of a person with your own wishes, feelings and thoughts that he constantly invalidates due to that. And where his emotional abuse, gaslighting and harassment always seems to be on the brink to change into physical violence. He gives me all the heebie-jeebies. The biggest red flag ๐ฉ ๐ฉ ๐ฉ i have seen in a kdrama for a long time, if not ever, tbh.
I do wonder tho if they wait till baby sol is cranky to shoot the Haneul scenes with JH where she is supposed to cry, or if she just generally does not like Jung Eui Jae, which does happen with babies, to no one's blame haha. Oh also, while we are at it ๐
damn how time flies tho, i enjoyed every week and discussion here since due to its length of 50 eps a true community…
i have never seen her in a kdrama so far hence i cannot say anything about whether or not she is a factor to watch, I may try to get into it simply for the community aspect as this is what i have enjoyed most with TRHC too, the many posts of yelling, theories and analysis. Dunno how it will shape up to be with the follow up, but lets see heh. TRHC is definitely one of the most active comment sections i take/took part in in my two years of MDL and one of my most enjoyable thanks to many people with insightful and smart comments that made nerding out about it myself so much easier haha <3
Long rambling post ahead, be advised...........I'm so confused with this show now, I honestly don't know how to…
i um, wrote a reply regarding TK and where i disagree but that became a post on its own which i will submit later lol so lemme focus on these two dumb assholes instead.
DW definitely is the worst brother i have encountered in a family drama thus far bc he did jackshit for YD in 40 eps, and counting. Too wrapped up in his own little world completely separated from his fam outside of being mommy's cowardly little soldier and his daughter running intellectual laps around him with her nine years of age, his minuscule brain capacity does not allow for sparing a good word for YD, ever, hell when DID he even talk to her last that was not a threat or insult? I can't even remember. Maybe when he was drunk in eps 19? Oh boooooi, worst sibling indeed. I get what you are saying here and maybe the intent was hidden underneath it all as you said, perhaps, but to me it all just looks like massive cowardice and hypocrisy. Aka, to save himself he is throwing YD under the bus whenever possible, to be seen as the GOOD kid to his mother. Aka, as long she is not yelling at me it is fine, i have my peace and quiet. I normally hate saying this bc it can quickly delve into an attitude of toxic masculinity but jfc he really needs to grow a pair and stand up for what he believes in. *If* there is anything he believes in in the first place, because after 40 episodes i still don't know, welp. He's learned to be a good father to SK over the years perhaps, and prioritizes her well-being, but he is a shit human to everyone else, with going where ever the wind blows least. No resistance, no opinions on his own, a gutless coward and hypocrite. Sure he is still young and can grow out of it, but that would require his willingness to do so, or someone who challenges him to that and lol, gong princess certainly is not THAT.
Which brings me to her, the airhead princess. How she ever did pursue a phd will forever be a mystery to me. She is so mind-numbingly dumb in nearly all regards. I agree to what you said about her being the outlier in her fam, hence her feeling kinship to TK the most. And she started out supportive to the leads too, but this was quickly forgotten as soon the lie was uncovered. She dropped her oh so beloved oppa like a hot potato prior cradled in her hands. Hell i think she has not talked for a year with him, even, not just not with her other siblings.
Which is where her hypocrisy and asshole-ness stems from in my eyes, she was closest to him, actually treated him as a brother and liked him, but she has not tried ONCE after it all happened to get to know his reasons why, to understand him? Yeah no, fuck off. Hell, she has not done so in a full year even, was like her equally intelligent bf too wrapped up in the vain little word of her own. While others may have kept her out of the loop, she is a grownass adult who has had the chance to find out what really happened or is happening a thousand times over, but nope obviously did not care enough to do so. Thus i really hope that she reaps what she sow and gets no support from Taekyung either once the wrath of the eldersโข is upon her due to dating her inlaw (and hopefully not cousin, lmao) Good hunting inok, here you finally can direct your vitriol well, lmao.
damn how time flies tho, i enjoyed every week and discussion here since due to its length of 50 eps a true community can and has grow(n.) Will miss ya, friendos. I wonder how many of you are gonna pick up the weekend drama following TRHC? I am curious i admit but not ready to say goodbye to the leads, soojung and uncle yet...byyyyyyeeeee to the other assholes in there tho ๐ I hope the next weekender has less toxic fams, but the premise does not look promising regarding that, alas
Yes, nothing to see here.. All is well, we are invited to the wedding reception at the chicken restaurant.Since…
DW/YM never gave enough of a shit about their siblings, particularly not DW. He is just present when it is for insulting/judging YD/TK . But stupid as they both are they just forgot or something, so the writers can prolong this insultingly dumb "tehehe my family has... what my family too. What a coincidence :D till YD/TK's wedding ceremony. Just wait.
Big bro was sitting adjacent from TK if i have seen this right, tho? Nah, just checked was HW instead with sourgrapes, lol. Maybe the oldest couple comes in later idk. Also lol why tf does YD sit like 6 feet away from her husband in that frame? Social wedding distancing? ๐
So I guess we pretend the whole Crazy InOk arc never happened then? And just move on? I don't know how else to…
Yep, basically. It has been nearly a week but my head is still spinning with the fact that we wasted 7 full episodes with no plot/character (maybe granny a bit?) and relationship progression only to land where we were in/after episode 33. Just with a timejump and baby haneul now, whom we also could have timejumped into existence/aged up AFTER that episode 34, errr, i mean 40. Plus we would have gotten a lot of character/rlship/subplot/relationships progression, particularly between leads, now if this abrupt cut hadn't been in between nd they had, gasp, stayed together. And this all just because the writer dragged the timejump plot device kicking and screaming from originally happening around eps 36-38 to its premature moooooom i am not ready yet eps 34 position. Thus we couldn't have nice, logical things, alas. Only screeching.
As said my guess is someone notified the writer in his caught up in aaaaaaangst/melo that he needs to get a fuckin move on bc only 10 eps are left to resolve everything, so he panicked and hammered the big, red reset button on his desk to get us back where we started, a year later. Eps 40 would have worked so so well without that timejump honestly. Like it would have been genuinely touching instead of.... ridiculous due to someone having pressed the pause button for A FULL YEAR on everything, ugh.
On the preview of episode 41, I don't know but it seems that the baby Junha holding is not baby haneul. The baby…
Nah she just looks different when letting out her pterodactyl screech so her appa and eomma can save her from the respective demon/people she hates holding her, is all hahaha. Look it is the same here with Inok ๐:
