no no let me tell you this first you cannot romantize rape no matter what, it doesn't matter if it's a fantasy.…
I think that adult BL content has come a long way from being seen as "for young girls". Just because people ignore the content rating, doesn't mean they should be catered to. I'm a gay man, and the idea of gay mature content being censored for the sake of an ill-advised, underage, straight audience just isn't it.

I totally get everything your saying, and I agree for the most part. I am basing my hopes for this on the fact that almost every web novel adaptation I have seen in BL has been substantially censored and altered by the time it hits screens and so I dont think the outrage over the premise is warranted here. An example of this would be "Dangerous Drugs of Sex", while the manga was totally cutesifying S/A and making light of it imo; the actual movie was given a more serious tone and made it abundantly clear down to lighting and sound that the s/a scenes were meant to be seen as twisted, not romantic.
Obviously, if this comes out and it's exactly like the novel- I'd be pissed too. I just get frustrated that people overreact to these announcements that sub in the novels' descriptions and write off the series, when this happens all the time. Pretty much every novel that has a BL series based on it is gross in it's original form. I actually think more of these toxic stories should be remade this way because the comparison to the original work sparks a good kind of outrage and discussion. (The Unforgotten Night fandom discussing how good the consent and communication was vs the novel being noncon is a great recent example)
As for the effects on people of a young age, I also agree but I don't think that really applies here. There is no way this has a content rating below nc17, even cutiepie got an R rating.
Omgg Payu is trying to teach Rain (who is younger and is currently dropping everything to be around Payu and missing…
This is what I mean, there's nothing technically wrong with wanting to make sure someone is mature enough to be your partner. No problems there. But 1- Touched Rain without permission multiple times and that spanking had no consent, if theres no consent its not BDSM, its abuse. 2- He doesn't actually give off any reason for you to like him. He fixes Rain's car for free and then implies he needs to pay for it in other ways (what kind of porno plot?). He orders Rain around because he's convinced that the only way to one-up Phayu is to impress him so he does it. In my opinion he was overly harsh for a partner when he scolded Rain for his project being late (this is a common theme too, Phayu takes on a parental figure rather than an equal partner). Overall an unhealthy AND unlikeable dynamic- (and people give TharnType crap?) 3- I do like the series, it's interesting and all the characters fit well and seem natural, I just know I would never let someone treat me the way Phayu treats Rain. He's not his pet, they are not in an established bdsm relationship (Rain was a virgin til now) and Rain deserves a partner who treats him as their equal.
I really hope Phayu has some kind of development bc right now he just looks like a massive jerk with a god complex. He's not "playing tricks" hes being emotionally manipulative and rude. Toxic characters can still be likeable, but Phayu is just a dick. Actors have great chemistry, and I love everything else, but wow is Phayu unlikeable.

If you have personal reasons for not wanting to consume the content, that is totally understandable. But you don't have a right to shame people for watching it.

Enjoying the psychology, dynamics and interractions involved in a plot is not the same as romanticising and it certainly isn't normalising. There are plenty of examples of all manner of horrific and disturbing content throughout media going back long before television, and yet we have continued as a society to recognize these as bad and moved forward. This is not new. Don't throw around words like "fetishizing" when you don't understand the side you are arguing with.
And you mention defending rape victims as if this show existing takes away from real people's experiences- that's not how anything works. As an S/A survivor myself, I am grossed out that you think bringing real crimes into a discussion about a fake story is a good argument. It's not comparable. You think everyone who watches a show that has a likeable murderer in it is normalizing murder? No. Because fiction isn't real. In reality, we would hate those characters. But in the controlled environment of fiction you can safely explore dark curiocity with nobody getting hurt.
Also, not that my mental health is something you have any right to comment on, but my therapist encourages my enjoyment of dark media as it has helped me process trauma.
Everything is allowed to be enjoyed in fantasy and fiction, and I think putting limits on that would be unnecessary censorship. Don't like, don't watch. I hope they do this in a tasteful way, looking forward to it!
I don't think this is being done. It sounds too extreme and folks are not ready for it.Too bad as I like the extreme…
Same here, I also enjoyed "Dangerous Drugs of Sex" and, while I wouldn't condone it in real life, it's enjoyable to see the darkest things humans are capable of in a safe and controlled way- Fiction.
Just watch it, don't read the comments. If you're worried about people complaining that there is S/A or unwanted touching- they are missing the entire context of the plot.
Yi Chen is still very much in love with Jiang Jing, but thinks that he will die if he ends up with him again. THAT is why he tries to resist him. The plot also shows that Jiang Jing has lingering memories of Yi Chen's death, which explains why he feels so "entitled" to a relationship with him and reacts strongly to being pushed away- because last time Yi Chen pushed him away he died. Yeah. Context matters, people.
