i was also pleasantly surprised. somehow i always keep my expectations low with bls produced in mainland. but lately there have been pretty solid cbls released and revenged love is one of them. despite the longer runtime, there's no filler scenes and the story is engaging. pretty solid start with these two episodes. i think the acting of the leads and supporting cast is good too. i'll still wait a little to comment on the chemistry but so far i'm intrigued. i hope we'll get some decent romantic scenes and hopefully some kisses but again expectations are quite low there. i don't mind no kiss scenes in a series but it would still be great if this could serve some physical intimacy and chemistry on taiwan level ^^

fair enough. i got your point. maybe i felt like it was a little obsessive the way khanin was acting this episode that's why i personally thought they needed to tone it down. but i understand that the reversed role of the active pursuiter (is that a word? lol) is refreshing compared to majority of bls. maybe i was just expecting that this wouldn't be their focus at this point of the story. i'd rather see them naturally grow closer together while training for the royal competition instead of leaning into a trope of one chasing after another.
if i could give some constructive criticism that would be invest more in creative scriptwriters. it doesn't matter how much of a big scale production this is or how much they invest in costume design or cinematography, if the script falls behind everything seems lacking and tasteless in the end.
i wish the scriptwriters would be more creative and add more smarter touches to the story to make it more interesting and complex. the power dynamics are so off - it's more triggering than gripping. they could be so much more smarter with the script considering they had 3 years to work on it. for instance, ramil should be the submissive one in that relationship although paytai is the whipping boy outside the relationship if paytai was the dominant in bed that would add so much more nuance and flavor to their dynamics.
i understand khanin only has charan he can trust and feel safe with since coming to emmaly, but they need to tone it down. this episode felt like he was a puppy begging for attention from a mere royal guard. i do not like that dynamic. 5th episode and we should be drawn into the actual story of the royal competition and already see that thatdanai returned to emmaly hiding with his secret partner prince wasin while they join hands with khanin and charan to uncover the assassins (but that's just my wishful thinking, i doubt these scriptwriter could come up with creative writing...). i swear at this point i see more creative theories from fans on tumblr than what these scriptwriters are doing.

to be fair it’s the company of heart stain, not director. the director of bbt is the same director of jun&jun and why r u. tbh i liked those two series although the scripts were a little lacking. but the directing wasn’t all that bad and actors had good chemistry. i’m hopeful bbt will be fine too based on the trailers. but let’s wait and see ^^ for me the scripts in kbls in general need to do better rather than the directing or cinematography.

yes there isn’t actually romance. but their sunbae/hoobae relationship is really just great. she remains by his side through all his “craziness” and fully supports his agenda in ending corruption and injustice. she’s also a very likeable strong female character and they have very good chemistry. there’s even a heart fluttering scene between them in later episodes that i would say was the main reason they got ‘best couple award’ on kbs awards ^^
