Not sure why this is labelled as a comedy. rather than a melodrama. I was disappointed because I expected a joyful, funny, light-hearted plot. Not a bad movie per se, just not what I wanted to watch at this point in time.
My Strange Hero is the only one I am interested to watch. I tried Mr Sunshine and dropped it. What's Wrong With Secretary Kim: I did watch, and unfortunately for the 2 great leads, the plot was lazy and got boring too quickly, so even they could not redeem it. The rest, I am not even trying.
My to be watched list is very long, my free time is very short, so if after 1 episode I'm not hooked or at least intrigued, I drop the drama without a care, even if I was looking forward to it in the first place (That's the worst, when you realize that a drama you thought you'd love sucks big time). Popularity doesn't matter to me. I gave up on Black, Mr Sunshine, You're Beautiful, My ID is Gangnam Beauty, Eulalacha Waikiki etc...I have also put a few popular shows in my Not Interested list. I do not watch everything my favourite actors and actresses have done, although I admit I'd probably be less ruthless in quickly discarding a lacklustre drama they're in, compared to the way I would with actors I did not care about.
Aaah...Pinocchio. I actually wasn't interested in the main couple at all. I was rooting and was more interested in the support characters! I do not get the popularity of Park Shin-Ye or Lee Jong-Suk. They did not impress me there. I've started watching another show (You're beautiful) with this actress and she was awful/cringy in it (I dropped it). Lee Jong-Suk, I've watched bits of his other shows on YT just to check and...nope. Not for me.
I am not interested in W because of Lee Jong Suk. Unpopular opinion to follow (you're warned): I've seen him in Pinocchio, and I don't think he's that good an actor. He's not natural on screen, but most of all, he lacks energy. He's so dull! Maybe Pinocchio is just a glitch and he can act better, but it'll take a while for me to forget the lifeless job he did. To think he's one of the most popular actors just floors me. I plan to watch Suspicious Partner, so I can't comment on that, neither can I on other shows you mention, as I haven't watched them. Other dramas I dropped? Some VERY popular ones...Black, Mr Sunshine, Eulachacha Waikiki, You're Beautiful, and My ID is Gangnam Beauty. I tried a couple of episodes at least for each, and I was either cringing hard or yawning depending on the series, so I dropped them. There are too many series I want to watch to waste time on those that don't grab me right away.
Algernon ni hanataba wo...aaah...I rarely give 10, and so far, I've only rated 2 shows with the perfect score. Algernon is one of them. It's just a beautiful, beautiful series.
Impossibility Defense has been in my PTW list for a while, but like you said, it has yet to be subbed. Is anyone on it? I really want to watch it...boo.
It seems hardly anyone likes love triangles, yet writers carry on shoving this trope down our throats, why? I always feel for the poor second lead leftover, unless they end up with someone else who was there all along. But then that would means it was a square in the first place, not a triangle...gah. Anyway, I feel a LT is lazy plotting. Get rid, show writers! Be more original and forget the love triangle that has by now become a big fat cliché...
I don't mind an age gap, as long as said gap isn't ginormous and/or obvious. What I mean is, I'm okay with say, 10 years difference, I'm not with 20. It's too icky. Actors' real ages aren't important, but appearances are , especially as actors tend to play characters who are younger or older than they are in reality. On a side note, I cringe hard at the older man/younger woman combo, but I love the older woman/younger man one (yes, I know, I'm sexist lol).
I haven't watched the Smile That (...), but a lot of the shows on here are ones I've dropped because I couldn't get interested in them or found them too cringy/boring. Ouch.
I only watched 3 eps, but I totally agree with you on the acting part. I would be harsher than you regarding the plot though. To me, it was childish, over the top and unrealistic. This drama is made for the very young/immature audience only.
