And he is fantastic so far, even with so little to work with. The topless scene with the sword at the end of ep. 2...how many times will I replay that?!
Dull and formulaic sageuk. That said, I will watch Yoon Si Yoon read the phonebook and if he does it wearing hanbok all the better. How this man didn't do sageuk before Mirror I will NEVER know; he is made for sageuk. I love Yoon Si Yoon to the ends of the earth!????
It is funny she is not my fave one, but they have paired her with lots of my fave actors so I kind of get to like…
Yep, and she has ruined it every time! Could not watch Doctor Stranger because of her. Gaksital was weak in parts ONLY because of her. Could not watch Flowers of the Prison because of her.... She just makes everything bad that could have been so much better!
Hmmm. I am a HUGE fan of the anime! Love it love it love it! So I was really worried about the movie - would it be Rurouni Kenshin (super awesome) or would it be Attack on Titan (ugh) or would it be the Netflix Death Note (oh the horror) ? Anyhow, I'm glad to read your review that it was pretty good. So if this only covered a handful of episodes I'm guessing they plan on making more? Anyhow, now I guess I'll check this out!
I will watch ANYTHING with Yoon Si Yoon in it. But why oh why oh why does Jin Se Yeon have to be the female lead? Couldn't they have found a different inanimate object? Ugh. I hope she does not completely ruin it.
Thank you so much for writing about this oft overlooked Kdrama actor. Jung Kyung Ho is one of my favorites. I don't always love the dramas he is in, but I always love him. Even though he often does lighter dramas that do not push him to show his full talents, Cruel City proved that he really is one of the best actors in South Korea. And that is still one of the greatest and most memorable acting jobs I've ever seen!
for people who watched this drama and liked it i would like to ask if you think this is a better choice then descendants…
I agree with the comments that say it depends on the person you are trying to get hooked on Kdramas. If that person likes romance and flashy action, then Descendants of the Sun. But if the person likes really good writing, good directing, details, character driven stories, and generally prefers artsy type shows and movies to blockbusters, then Prison Playbook is the choice. It's substance not flash. Descendants is flash not substance.
I am pretty crazy in love with this drama right now. Lee Min Ki has always been one of my favorite actors. It had been so long since I'd seen him in a drama I forgot exactly how much I loved his quirkiness. He is just so gloriously strange and beautiful. Welcome back Lee Min Ki!
I have completed 244 dramas (nearly all Korean, a couple Chinese). I had but 1 that I rated a 10 - Signal....until I finished this one. I now have two dramas ranked 10. Yes, it's that good.
Well, after episode 4, ugh, here I am still waiting for Lee Joon Gi to do another drama with good writing...and waiting...and waiting. I mean this is well acted and directed, but the writing is terrible.
I enjoyed this drama throughout, but thought it's pacing was a bit off sometimes. And then episodes 15 and 16 - WOW! I'd give it a 10 based on the final 2 episodes. If you have given up on this drama, please don't, see it through and you will not be disappointed! Kdramas so often cannot pull off good final episodes and endings. This one saved it's best for last!
