I just wrote a nasty blog post about this because I don't think Netlfix understands how the international Kdrama viewing audience likes to watch our Kdramas - that is as they are airing in SK. This is stupid. I know some people marathon, but with me my viewing list is so long that I just forget all about a Kdrama if I cannot watch it while it's airing. So I may never watch Night Light now because of this dumb move by Netflix.
I like Lee Soo Hyuk's character, everyone ignore him, poor him
I do too! He is kind of quirky. It's like he is trying to be a bad guy, but he doesn't quite pull it off and is actually a nice guy inside. And he is also weird, which I love. I hope they keep his character this way and he doesn't become actually bad in his attempts to get the property. He is fun just as he is. It never ceases to amaze me how someone as otherworldly beautiful as Lee Soo Hyuk always manages to pull of being kind of quirky and weird when called for it. I just love him!
Anyhow, for the lovers, after episode 17 I've decided that a TRULY happy ending for our characters in the modern era involves NOT only So and Soo living happily together forever, but also Yeon Hwa's modern day counterpart being totally flattened by a white truck of doom! Anything less will not do!
Oh, and Wook and Won work all day in raw sewage. Queen mommy spends all her days in a sanitarium yelling at walls and pulling her own hair out. And Chae Ryung is a drug addicted prostitute.
The negative aspect of this drama has only 20 episodes. With some many characters in this drama and information…
Agreed. 20 is too short. The C Version had 35 - although they were 45 minutes long, so if you do the math, MLSHR needed to be about 26-27 episodes. I think that would have worked. The other problem with pacing encountered by MLSHR is that it's like most of the world started when Hae Soo arrived; whereas in the Cversion things like 13th prince's loveline were already established when the story started and I think that helped that subplot immensely (I hate the handling of it in this version).
Plus, even though the original was very complex, I think this one is even more so. There are more kings, more plots and a lot more fighting, all of which added up to just more going on with even less time. It is all too ambitious and that did hurt it as evidenced by the basically just awful editing.
How refreshing is it to have a 2nd male lead who just recognizes the love of the OTP and steps back?! Wow! I didn't see that coming but it was beautiful to watch in episode 8! Loved it. I know this will most likely change once Louis is revealed to be a chaebol and out of Bok Sil's reach, but it's nice to know that our 2nd lead has a sense of self-awareness and emotional IQ! Yeah! This romcom is such an unexpected treat and breath of fresh air wrapped up in a seemingly very common plot. Love it!
I love a happy ending as much as anyone, really. But I am actually disappointed in this too happy, let's completely throw history out the window ending. It felt way too easy, lazy and childish. And poor Yoon Sung who everyone happily forgets.
Watched ep 16 raw. Sometimes it's hard to follow a raw ep when it's all dialogue and little action, but ep 16 was actually pretty easy to follow because a lot happened. I mean, I will be very happy to rewatch with subs tomorrow, but I really enjoyed it without nevertheless.
Koreans in the past were allowed to marry their half brother/sister or am I getting something wrong?
Mostly royals. All over the world. It was very very common to keep royal bloodlines pure and also to make alliances between kingdoms. In fact, Korea as a region ended this practice well before Europe did. The Joseon dynasty made marrying within clans illegal whereas in Europe they were still inbreeding in the 19th century between the various royal families.
I.....I don't even know what to do with myself here now! Haha, just finished watching ep 16 and it sounds…
Yes, @souldoc70 ! That's why they showed that particular news piece - foreshadowing! I love that this show is pushing the envelope like this! Frankly, I wish all 3 of them could live together forever, but then this would be on HBO and not a Kdrama - ha!
Daebak!! I never thought I would laugh this hard after a passionate epsiode like 14th. I was expecting something…
Pasta is cute. Very typical Kdrama romcom fair. Although, he is your very typical wrist grabby, mean alpha male in it. And really, I was almost too put off by his character at first to continue it. So, if you don't like really mean grabby male leads, you might want to pass. I'd say on a scale of Kim Woo Bin's character in Heirs to Choi Woo Shik's character in Ho Gu's love, he's only very slightly below KWB.
Ok, so that is it. Episode 2 - the "magic carpet ride" through the jimjilbang is officially the funniest thing I've ever seen in a Kdrama. I was choking I laughed so hard - tears were streaming down my face.
So disappointed they couldn't actually get Lee Sun Gyun to do the cameo, rather than just his voice. That would have been so great! But even so, how cute was that cameo?!
