Ok, so I'm not normally too judgemental when it comes to what dramas people like. Too each her own. BUT, I am just half way through episode 3 of K2 and I'm sorry but if you don't live this drama there might be a problem with your brain being missing. :-P
And what else do I really like about this drama? I actually like Hong Hye Won (Seo Ji Hye's character). At least so far. It's so rare to have a likeable 2nd female in a Kdrama - it's like finding a pink elephant. I hope she stays this way.
Commitment. That is what I love possibly most about this drama. It is totally committed to whatever joke or plot point it pursues. It doesn't half-ass anything! There is a giant plain of mud so gosh darnit, we are going to have one of the greatest mud fights seen this side of the Howard Stern show. I loved it. I loved it's absurdity and its awesomeness and even its heart. But most of all I love that they committed to it - the writers and the actors. This show has so much win for me I cannot even stand it. I could just watch it over again and be endlessly entertained.
which one is better, this drama or moonlight drawn by clouds?
They are so different it's not fair to compare them. It is just in what you like. I think that Moonlight is maybe qualitatively better in that it's more coherent and better directed. But at the same time, it is an "easier" drama with a much simpler story. It's not overly ambitious like Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (SH:R).
Basically, if you like a lovely drama that is easy to watch, with good acting and a beautiful love story, it's Moonlight. It's definitely not fluffy. It is deep and poignant, but it's just safer would probably be the word I'd use.
If you prefer something exciting with lots of twists and turns, a large cast, and a whole lot going on, you'd prefer SH:R. But you have to accept with SH:R that with that big cast and big ambition comes a lot of failures of writing and directing (and music). So it's harder to watch, but possibly more rewarding. It's more violent and bloody too.
Frankly, I find it best not to choose and just watch them both and enjoy them both for what they are. It is sad that they have to be compared since they air opposite each other. They are VERY different dramas, even though they are both sageuks. They both have their strengths and weaknesses and I find them both very enjoyable in their own ways.
If every episode had been as well written and directed as 11, this show would be one of the best ever. <shakes angry fists at the Kdrama Gods> <curses the writer and PD>
If we are really, really lucky this is a sign of things to come and not just a one off - PLEASE!
Ok...ok...ok. So, now that I have managed to pick my jaw up off the ground, I have a few things to say about the…
I've seen every LJK drama. And I love 2 Weeks and TBDAW. But in Two Weeks he's just a regular guy and not a great fighter. TBDAW is closer to what I'm thinking I'd like but without the amnesia, just straight up tortured action hero, like Man from Nowhere type. That would be awesome. Plus TBDAW was nearly a decade ago...time for an upgrade. :)
Ok...ok...ok. So, now that I have managed to pick my jaw up off the ground, I have a few things to say about the abso-freaking-lutely-awesome first episode!
1. Nope, jaw just fell back to the floor....wait....ok...here we go. So, anyhow, man, the cable channels are just smoking the networks aren't they? I mean, seriously, could you imagine if something as epic as Scarlet Heart had been done by tVN with proper writing and directing? Just like in the US the networks are dinosaurs and cable is where it's AT!
2. I totally understand now why Ji Chang Wook (in jest I hope) said he doesn't want to do anymore action. That dude must be exhausted. He did more action in one episode than most leads of an action drama do in 10. Crazy! And AMAZING!
Oh, and Yoona, also probably pretty darn tired!
3. And this has nothing really to do with K2, so much as my own selfish desire -- I really, really wish with all my heart that Lee Joongi's next drama gets to be something like K2 where he gets to be an awesome action hero like this AND it's on cable with great directing! He deserves it.
Well, that bromance bit the dust. The ending of episode 10 took away any sympathy I felt for HS at the end of…
Sometimes in the heat of the moment (ok a lot of times) people say things and they may not necessarily follow through with them all the way. Just because HS says he will tear apart his friendship does not necessarily mean he will or that he will do it wholly. He just is acting out and speaking out because he's upset, but I think what actually will happen will be more nuanced then that that once he thinks about his friendship with JW, and what is best for NR. Although I still think they will be together in the end, I don't think he really wants to destroy his friendship with JW. He's just lashing out in the moment.
Episode 9.... so much swooning that I think I stopped breathing. So good I cried at the awesome. And for once....finally for once there is a female lead character totally deserving of her awesome suitors. If ever I wanted the girl to get both guys, this is it! (Ha, most of the time I want both guys to realize the girl isn't that great and just move on.)
DON'T READ THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SPOILED BY A HISTORY LESSON - It really does suck that Hae Soo does not…
@rainruma - I agree. That's what I always found so poignant and tragic about BBJX: that in trying to avoid history, she actually brings it about (or at least seems to). Ruoxi warns 8th prince about 4th prince when she panics and Hae Soo has done the same. Ruoxi was smarter and better informed about history, but the effect is the same.

I know right?! Ha, if the Korean one ends like the Chinese version, there will be hell to pay. So far you can see a lot of Korean sensibility to it, so I would assume they would do the ending in a way that is fitting of Korean dramas and not like the Chinese one. (Of course, making it more Korean also meant getting rid of the more adult stuff that happens in the Chinese version between Ruoxi and 8th prince causing 4th to really lose his mind with jealousy, but, oh well, can't expect fun historical sexy times in a Kdrama.)
