Editorials A Cruel Ending, an Incredible Performance, but a Dragged-Out Story
I have mixed feelings about this drama. While I wouldn’t say it was amazing overall, there were definitely aspects that made it worth watching.
The highlight for me was Jae-min, and especially Jo In-sung’s incredible performance. He was easily the most interesting character, and the actor portrayed his emotions so convincingly that I couldn’t help but feel invested in him, despite all his flaws. He really carried the drama for me.
Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the story itself. The pacing was quite slow, and there were many moments when the plot felt dragged out and repetitive. At times, I honestly wasn’t that interested in what was happening, which made the drama less enjoyable than it could have been.
As for the ending, I definitely wasn’t expecting it, although I had my suspicions about Soo-jung’s true feelings. I believe she genuinely loved Jae-min, but everything surrounding their relationship made it extremely difficult for her to admit it, even to herself. That made the ending even more tragic.
Was the ending cruel? Absolutely. But was it bad? I don’t think so. It was shocking, heartbreaking, and ultimately fitting for the kind of story the drama was trying to tell.
Overall, What Happened in Bali is a 7/10 for me. It’s not a drama I loved from beginning to end, but Jae-min’s character, Jo In-sung’s performance, and that unforgettable ending are what made it memorable.
