can someone give me a brief synopsis? love the leads, but seems like I need some motivation to start it ❤
Seems to be a three part (4 eps each) story of three generations of a family and their stories of love and life. The first set is about a daughter of a sea diver mother who fiercely loves her daughter but dies young, leaving her daughter duty bound to care for her stepfather and halal siblings, even though she dreams of being a poet. There is a boy from a higher class who has obviously and doggedly loved her from childhood who is the male lead of this segment. There is drama that occurs, of course, and an arranged marriage which at the last minute the fl decides to forgo and marry the ml instead.
Here is where I will devolve a bit. You may LOVE this drama after watching. I hope you give it a try and I hope you really will love it. I am dropping this after the first segment because I have never EVER seen a fl who is more abhorrent in literally any drama I’ve watched. She is completely self obsessed and so utterly cruel constantly to the ml, who bows his head, dutifully taking her abusive tirades and then goes about trying to make her happy harder. She actually makes him sell her food at the market (as well as his own) while she sits reading a book ignoring him. I am just wanting to give you fair warning, if this kind of thing bugs you like it does me, maybe skip this one lol. Maybe I should press on and she will be better, but honestly she’s SO bad I don’t even WANT a happy ending for her. I want the sweet boy to run away fast and find someone who will cherish him, not abuse him. Anyway, rant over. Lol, I hope this helped a little.
wow, what an awesome review. Was wondering if I should jump into this one, but I think I’ll skip for now. Would it be rude to ask here if you could give a few period dramas you really do like? I think I would trust your opinion and just watch them, lol. Anyways, thanks again for such an intelligent and well thought out review. 👏🏻
what are you talking about?! they took their lives at the end…! It’s certainly not the actor’s fault, and…
Normally I would not get “worked up,” but this one is clearly advocating and promoting suicide as the way out. Your mental gymnastics to try and say they aren’t portraying this as what it was is kind of sad. Obviously, in any film, the interpretation when you see a SEE-THROUGH GLOWING character who is shown suddenly happy and doing well in a dreamlike state after their previously normal solid and non-glowing character has been been stated with finality that they will “never get well,” it’s OBVIOUSLY showing that they have died. And obviously they both didn’t magically die of natural causes after taking a trip to the country saying goodbye to their families and leaving all their possessions behind….come on. They’re obviously showing that they killed themselves. The amount of harm this could do to a massive population of impressionable depressed young people who idolize these characters is frightening. It was irresponsible and horrible for them to do, and people SHOULD be upset and “worked up” about it.
sooo….you’re advocating for suicide, then? How is a message saying don’t kill yourself controversial? Maybe the message is to hang on and keep working towards a better life for yourself? I’m sincerely confused by your review.

that would be nice except that their characters were glowing and see-through standing beside a mythical tree that can’t exist in real life, and the ml is totally fine in that last scene, just after the drama stated that he would “never get better.” So, they absolutely didn’t live out their lives in the countryside, these writers/directors just promoted killing yourself as a way to fix your problems. Sickeningly irresponsible and disgusting. I’m sorry, not mad at you, but at the creators of this show. Many people who are struggling and if they saw this drama, would immediately think that they had an excuse now. It’s so bad.
At the end of the drama, both of them get married and they "elope" and now live in the country side so that they…
just finished it. why then are their characters see-through and glowing? Also they stated for a fact that he’d “never get better” but he’s there totally fine with her see-through and glowing beside a mythical tree that can’t exist in real life? No, they absolutely are portraying that they killed themselves. how disgustingly irresponsible for the writers to do. I cannot believe they did that with as many depressed people as are out there….
I have seen posts stating that CZY "apologized" for the sub par (viewership) success of this drama. Not only was…
what are you talking about?! they took their lives at the end…! It’s certainly not the actor’s fault, and he did a spectacular job portraying his role, but what in the world?! they had the main leads kill themselves in a world full of depressed kids who look up to these characters?!? absolutely irresponsible of the writers/directors…sickening.
Jiang li , ben , the doctor ben admired can't remember her name 😅, ML and FL but in the novel not the drama…
I thought the main leads chose to…”go to the white olive tree in the sky” in the end…? was that not correct? I’m a few eps from the end but was told it was a horrible ending?
ok I am five episodes from the end, and I just heard that the leads….off themselves….in the end?!?! could someone please confirm or deny this for me as I will be stopping immediately if so…?
