No. Way. I have no words.
I simply cannot believe that in our current world FULL of depressed young people who look up to these characters and relate to them, they somehow thought it would be a good idea to have the main leads take their own lives at the end?!?! Now anyone who also feels they will “never get well” has the excuse they need…good job, writers/directors. Slow clap for you. I don’t leave many reviews, but this made me SO angry at the sickening irresponsibility shown here…wow.I don’t blame the actors, they did the job that was handed to them, and SO well, especially the ml. The ost is achingly beautiful, and the scenery stunning.
But….I just can’t even. It’s debatable whether lines were crossed with the brutality shown from ep 36, personally I didn’t like how far it went, but ok. But the ending wasn’t just bad, it was irresponsible and sickeningly stupid for them to do. It should probably be taken down and not shown unless they change the ending.

I guess this is the future of Cdramas…?
This drama follows the recent (and probably permanent) trend of the advent of the western “girl boss.” Gone seem to be the days where you could see a stoic and somehow always capable manly ml who always beats the overwhelming odds while sacrificing his body to defend the fl and her honor. Now, we have the sort-of-semi-capable ml who is always dependent on the fl’s consistently superior brain (and many times brawn…?🤦🏻♀️). She will always be there to rescue him and tell him how he’s wrong and what to do next, which is nice, since he will make it clear many times throughout that he would be nothing without her there to give him her guidance and protection. Sigh. This drama does not disappoint in this aspect, for sure. That said, the casting was well done, though I did think that the ml didn’t quite carry off when he was supposed to have “ice in his eyes,” and brutal hatred in his gaze, etc. He just looks too nice for that, in general. That was minor, though, and I thought the casting was good.
The music was….ok….not terrible, also nothing I’d listen to separately for enjoyment.
The storyline was not too bad, though a few really major holes were left in the plot. Example: ml’s brother had a bit of a twisted childhood that he didn’t even know was twisted until he was almost an adult. What happened to make him such a sadistic and evil person? He had a good mother figure, and a happy enough childhood….that was never explained. Other than a few things like that, though, the story kept my attention.
The ending. Hmmm. Well, I will say I’m a fan of a happy ending. I’m so glad this had one. It was like a drama full of heartbreak, betrayal and angst, then the very last episode, with very little fanfare or emotion, things just….worked out. Everything slipped gently into its own little slot, and then it was over. It was kind of weird to me. But I’ll take that over a depressing ending any day.
All in all, it was a good watch. Personally for me it was really a wasted opportunity for a great series because of the “female empowerment” garbage, but I guess I’m in the minority since they still continue to make them like this as of late. As someone from the US, I stopped watching our entertainment in disgust and boredom years ago. I switched to Asian dramas precisely because they still made theirs free of this woke garbage that has ruined our entertainment industry. I wish they would see how much of the US can’t stand its own entertainment and take a cue from that to save them from the western pitfalls, but, now I’m opining on a different topic than a simple show review. Either way, give this one a try, you’ll probably like it!

Love this except for fl’s constant lies…
I’m at episode 9 and really loving this drama except for one thing. The fl keeps getting offended when the ml or his family implies that she/her family are devious and scheming. Yet she schemes, lies and manipulates without any guilt at every turn…? It makes me despise her character (and I really want to like her!)…how can he trust her when she’s so dishonest? Ugh.It’s very possible that her character arc will have her feel sorry about that and change later on, but I’m doubtful. She seems cast as the one who is simply right no matter what because she’s the girl and he is the one who is always wrong because he’s the man, so of course he’s wrong... I’m hoping I’m wrong. Will come back and change my review later if it turns out better than I hope! 😌
Edit: ok, so, turns out she’s not just manipulating and lying, she’s literally spying, betraying and plotting against her husband, then twists things using his politeness to her to make everything seem like his fault. This is…🤮. I’ll give it a few more episodes if I can stomach it, but she’s disgusting.

Simply horrible FL
I am dropping this after the first segment because I have never EVER seen a fl who is more abhorrent in literally any drama I’ve watched. She is completely self obsessed and so utterly cruel constantly to the ml, who bows his head, dutifully taking her abusive tirades and then quietly goes about trying harder to make her happy. She actually makes him sell her food at the market (as well as his own) while she sits reading a book ignoring him, and there’s never a “thank you” or any appreciation shown, just a shoulder shrug. So, just wanting to give you fair warning, if this kind of thing bugs you like it does me, maybe skip this one lol. Maybe I should press on and she will be better, but honestly she’s SO bad I don’t even WANT a happy ending for her. I want the sweet boy to run away fast and find someone who will cherish him, not abuse him. Anyway, rant over. Lol, I hope this helped a little.

Wow, took me completely by surprise!
I started this just to watch a short, non-involved easy drama. It turned out to be one of my favorites ever. I think my favorite thing about this was the small things they put in—a casual touch on the arm or one extra look before driving off, things like that that weren’t made a big deal of, but made it seem more real than usual. The male/female leads did a great job, and made my heart flutter more than once! Story was good, a bit predictable but satisfying anyway, and a very nice ending.

This is making me so mad….
I’m eleven episodes in and, wow. This show is making me SO mad, lol. This abusive manipulative FL is a real piece of work! She gives him zero information, expecting him to just be a stud for her with no reason given, doesn’t think he’s worth knowing the kids are his, thinks her family is worth lying and scheming for, but USES his family, baiting his mom to force him to sleep with her….good grief. I’m going to keep trying but it’s SO bad…. Will come back and update if it gets better. Was this review helpful to you?

American influence is ruining cdramas
This would have been a truly epic drama—casting was awesome, ost was pretty good, costumes and set were really beautiful. But the storyline. ugh. Cdramas are becoming just like US entertainment where they just HAVE to have a super aggressive, ultra perfect and “always right” girl boss female lead who dominates and bosses around a submissive, always apologetic and non leader-type male lead. Here’s a hint, Asian entertainment as a whole…you are gaining a huge following of western audiences for the main reason that we are SO sick of that trope being forced down our throats constantly, and Asian dramas until recently have not had this garbage. It’s just not historically accurate that he would have followed her lead exclusively, stating that he was submissive to her at every turn. And they just had to make her the emperor…ess, didn’t they. sigh.
I did watch the whole thing because all the other elements were so good, but I will definitely never slog my way through it again. so sad.
