is the novel a happy ending?

very excited for this one. love meng ziyi especially when she plays sassy characters!

sometimes, it really does feel like we are all watching a different drama lol.

mo jingli might not have been a monster from the beginning, but he was far from innocent. even before people started dying because of him, he was cunning and selfish. as a kid, he purposely got closer to ye li at the academy so he could use her familial connections to gain more political power. treating a person who was kind to you as a chess piece so that you could get ahead? that is the start of a villain, imo.

as an adult, mo jingli killed innocent people and burned down cities all in the name of the throne. these are the very people and places he was supposed to protect if he wanted to be a ruler. he is a narcissist who uses others and feels no remorse for those who gets hurt because of him. this is the kind of person you want as an emperor?

also, mo jingli's servant advised him to work with mo xiuyao once, and he said no, because he was bitter that ye li was mo xiuyao's wife (mind you, ye li and mo xiuyao only ended up together because mo jingli broke off his engagement with ye li first.)

that is the kind of person mo jingli is. in what world would ye li and mo xiuyao agree to be his ally?

these are my exact thoughts too. also, this director is the same one from ashes to crown, so I don't feel very confident in his ability to do the story justice with just 24 episodes. but I am a big fan of tian xiwei so I will tune in just for her.

from my pov, he was trying to distance himself from her because he was losing his eye sight. she has always told him she wanted a life of luxury and for her future partner to pamper her. he was becoming blind, so he didn't want to hold her back with his impairments. it was his way of letting her go, thinking that she wouldn't want to be with him now he can no longer take care of her.

mo xiuyao's father and the current emperor's father were brothers by blood, making xiuyao and the emperor first cousins. mo jingli is a generation after both of them.

i'm currently catching up on the last 11 episodes, and damn guys... because of spoilers from tiktok, i already knew what was coming, but ep32 still managed to make me cry. idk how some of you did it, watching only one episode a day while it was airing and having to let that angst linger until the next day. 😭

I'm on ep10 atm, and I'm quite surprised by the amount of love people have for ye xian in the comment section. for me, he's currently the most annoying and entitled character. he has a lot of screentime, and every time he shows up, I just want to skip his scenes.

do people like him because his character will grow into someone more likable in the future episodes or do people only like him because they think the actor is cute?

omg I can't wait to see it lol. hopefully he gets everything he deserves... along with everyone who has ever wronged our couple. 🙏

mo jingli's backstory is tragic, but he IS a villain lol. ye li and mo xiuyao have only killed people who have hurt / killed those that they loved. mo jingli will kill even the innocent and righteous as long as he gets the upper hand. is that not the definition of a villain?

as for breaking off the engagement to "save ye li", if you are going to do something for the sake of someone, commit to your decisions until the end. he discarded her to "protect" her, then when she is with someone new, he gets jealous and keeps clinging onto her even though she has told him a hundred times that she is not interested in him and wants him to leave her alone. he constantly tries to emotionally manipulate her with "if you leave, i'm going to hurt / kill myself" antics... so toxic. gives me the ick.

right??? ye li fell off a cliff, got bit by poisonous snakes, and survived. han mingxi was sliced and diced by a swarm of assassins, and survived. qin cang was stabbed in the chest so deeply and ruthlessly, and survived. what the princess will endure next episode looks like a flesh wound compared to everyone else's injuries. she can't possibly die. 😭

princess lingyun can't really die in the next episode, right? even though she is supposed to be an enemy, she seems to really want peace between the two nations and she seems to genuinely like zhiyao.

and zhiyao... poor zhiyao. he has been a true friend to xiuyao for all these years. he shared in xiuyao's burdens, sadness, and plans for revenge. and when xiuyao finally married a loving wife and his legs finally healed, zhiyao shared in xiuyao's joy and happiness... zhiyao deserves someone to spend the rest of his life with too. princess lingyun was good for him. :(

she feels too important of a character for the story to just kill her off like this.

omg... it just occurred to me that princess lingyun's possible death might also cause a rift between xiuyao and zhiyao... will zhiyao really fall for the lies? or will he be able to see through them? he wouldn't actually believe that ye li is responsible for this, right? 😭
