"My Calorie Boy" is on my plan-to-watch list. My first thought about WIFTY is that the FL is way too pure for her own good and way too in love already. I'm getting It Started With a Kiss vibes, which FL is head over heels and ML couldn't care less. But I hope I'm wrong and she'll tone it down a bit.
Everyone, we gotta stick together to defend this drama!! So people that think the same, feel free to add me as a friend. I'm also in need of people to talk about different dramas with (there's none in real life, sadly)
This AVX sounds like got some malicious intention and making some ridiculous critic just because of one chapter…
She's actually a good cdrama review youtuber. I really like her opinions overall, but I couldn't bring myself to watch her review on this drama for other people's comments on her video alone. They really pissed me off. And what bugs me the most is people "forming" their opinion on things without watching/reading the material for themselves first. It's like people hate just for the sake of hating alone, I can't stand it. This novel holds a very special place in my heart and I'll only accept other people bashing it if they have at least read it.
In my opinion, it's incredible how some people manage to turn and see anything in a problematic light. I'm really starting to think some people just don't have anything better to do and are just always looking for problems in things (even when there's none).
The novel follows in a very natural way the first crush (that turns into love) of a 12 year old girl as time passes and she matures. From the beginning, Sang Zhi's crush is innocent and pure. She doesn't fantasize about getting sexual with him or anything: it's a pure feeling of being happy around him, of thinking about him, of wishing to be able to help him with his struggles and, later on, wishing for his happiness, even if it means that the person by his side won't necessarily be her. She never crosses any line with her feelings either: she's aware of their age gap at all times and knows he definitely only sees and treats her as a little sister (a he should). What I mean by this, essentially, is that she is always herself and acts her age (she doesn't try to match his ways or tries to make herself look older in any moment, even when she's already in university).
Duan Jia Xu also acts in a respectful way always. He treats her as his sister from the beginning and never, even once, considered her as a potencial love interest, until she defends him from the crazy stalker (when she's already in University). Something that is clear in the novel (but maybe wasn't well portrayed in the drama) is that, overall, Sang Zhi and Duan Jia Xu don't really interact much for a period of about 4 years before they meet again in Yi He. When she's in highschool in the novel, he's already living alone in Yi He and only talks to her during festivals and birthdays to wish her well and send presents. And after the airport scene (when Sang Zhi's heartbroken), they don't interact at all anymore (since she ghosts his text messages). So there is always distance between them, it's not like they were the best of friends and used to see each other everyday (for there to be any uncomfortable feeling of "he watched her grow up" and bla bla bla).
So honestly, I don't get why people are trying so hard to diss their relationship and this drama (and novel). On the contrary, I think that trying to wrongly associate it with real life problems such as ped******* and all is what really concerns me. Don't banalize things like that. Ped******* are criminals, they're disgusting, but also, they don't have anything to do with this story!!
I really liked how the drama added that scene of DJX specially making SZ meet his boss for her to explain to SZ about his situation back at the airport. And that little extra scene in the end showing the moment he asked his boss for the favor. That was such a cute and special change! It shows how worried he is about the way SZ views him as a "Zhong Yang Kong Tiao" (central air-conditioning: buzzword on the internet, referring to men who radiate warmth and love to two or more women at the same time, as if the central air-conditioning that blows cold air to anyone) and a Nan Hu Li Jing (male fox spirit: shameless, flirty, seductive man). He really wants to change her image of him so that she can come to trust him and his feelings. So cute!
It seems to me that the people complaining about this show were all born as adults and never had a crush before (or an adolescence). It’s totally normal for her to have a crush on him at her age. I had my first crush at 12 years old and would do pretty much the same things SZ did (including imagining entire fanfics about me and my crush during class and freak out if he ever seated next to me or talked to me. Hush, guys.
Besides, DJX DOES NOT SEE HER AS A POTENCIAL ROMANTIC INTEREST UNTIL SHE IS IN UNIVERSITY. And he only starts seeing her differently after she defends him against the psycho girl. So it’s not even “because she is an adult now”, it’s more because he realizes she cares about him enough to put herself in a disadvantageous situation for the sake of his well-being. After this he starts to notice her physical features and overall beauty and starts falling for her.
Yes, unfortunately they did. I kind of understand her parents point of view. Sang Zhi grew up really spoiled,…
This is the novel. :) I don't know how they'll adapt this scene in the drama... But I have high hopes they'll do it faithfully! All episodes until now have been following the novel pretty closely.
And your cousin's love story seem to be really sweet!
