1. Acting has been iffy all over the place, even for Arthur Chen sometimes (him less than others of course). I've stopped caring about most scenes with with only good guys except for Ancy Deng and Jerry Yu cause they have decent chemistry imo (not saying the bad guys acting are better, it's mainly because they advance plot, whether alone or confronting protags). 2. I'll stick to what I've said before, the visuals have not gotten any better. The sect that Lu Ping has been in recently has a nice classic white uniform, yet they had to add that patch of square swirly nonsense dead in the middle? Qing Sang's outfits haven't gotten less tacky either. 3. It's a Chinese drama, and I mainly watch Chinese dramas, but this one feels draggier than usual. 4. So uh, how many more people are gonna become evil and betray the good side, whether undercover or not? At this point I'm convinced that every new character we meet, "oh look he's evil, how unpredictable" will be myreaction. 5. Bad stuff aside for a sec, although Arthur Chen may be iffy in this drama, I agree with a lot of people line delivery has gotten much better. Expressions seem to need a bit of work though imo. 6. I know Chen Xiao is relatively new to this, but even Ancy Deng does a better job imo... Chen Xiao did improve slightly from earlier episodes, but her expression is still always the same ò_ó 7. Though I don't enjoy a lot of it, I'll keep watching it. It's not unbearable, and is a good nod to old Wuxia stories.
i want conflicted badass jbz!! i want him to know what he is and was capable of and i was fine with him being…
Same. i know people hate the "oh look main character turns evil" trope but it's personally one of my favourite things to watch. legit I was expecting at least an episode dedicated to JBZ remembering his life as WH and being confused yet badass. I'm desperately praying for a season 2 so we have a chance to see him like that.
I need more. That Wang Hua scene lasted like, 5 seconds, and the tease at the end. I really hope it gets a second season, or else the ending feels a bit empty. I usually don’t mind when MC’s don’t know martial arts (like JBZ/WH in his current state), but the fact he used to be the best of the best in swordplay (1v50+) makes me really want him to at least remember his martial arts skills.
Back for a rewatch. And holy shit the last time I watched it was before I went back to China. After going back to China after 7 years, coming back to Canada and rewatching this, there's so many undertones, controversies, discrimination and issues the show speaks so clearly and well about. Yet I couldnt understand it or even see it before experiencing it for myself.
I'm up for this. I really hope there's some magical power fights cause it's been a while since something good along the lines released that wasn't part of the TMoPB saga.
Came back after a year since my last comment, still no news of a third season. It's been 3 years so I doubt there is gonna be one. Hopefully at least The Dark Lord gets a second season, or else it won't be doing Joe Xu justice.
hmmmmm.... the light of this drama, is getting darker!! have they even started production yet?
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that season one and two were all filmed at once. It was planned for all 70+ episodes to be aired at once, but they ended up making it 2 seasons instead.
Lead guy is a typical Clark Kent hero with no personality and he’s boring as hell. I personally find the second…
I find them both to be really great. Second lead shines in his stand alone scenes because he's usually in battle. He's honestly what I find a really great version of the "all muscle no brain" type of characters, because he is intelligent when it comes to other things. He becomes comic relief next to main lead, not reduced imo, because the main lead's character is quite somber and brooding. Main character seems to be very basic, because in some ways, he really is. In theory, he's a person born 8 years ago as the story starts, and learned everything he knew from books written by the same author. Both characters balance each other, and make each other better. And the best part, both actors do a phenomenal job at their respective characters with the material they have.
I had the exact thought. She should have been the main female lead in this. First, her body is much more fluid…
I semi agree with that. Personally if she took on this project, that means she would have had to ditch Ancient Detective, and holy damn AD is currently my favourite show. But the dynamic between her and Arthur would have been great to see.
Guess it's time for me to do that, check out what my parents watched =v=

Edit: Never mind, searched it up. Interesting concepts.

Hope season 2 comes out soon.
