I personally feel Joseph Zheng is a decent ZWJ. Not perfect, but yea, it works. I guess I just got used to seeing him from Take My Brother Away and Fighter Of Destiny. Though I do admit, he does lack charm so far, but hopefully he'll get better.
So far, pretty accurate to the novels. Also don't worry, by what you see in the previews on the v.qq website, we should be able to see Joseph Zheng as Zhang Wuji by episode 12.
I know prologues' are important, and they have a pretty long backstory for Zhang Wuji in the novels; but god damn, it's been 8 episodes yet you still don't see half of the main actors. In fact, Zhang Wuji's childhood story barely passes half. Hopefully they shorten the rest.
There's a scene where one of the main leads is wearing a bath-robe and the other is wearing the most adorable mouse pj's (which belongs to the other lead btw~) and it is so precious.
-Most C-Dramas aren't really dramas, they are more multiple seasons (like a classic TV show) put into one sitting. -Usually, 2-6 episodes could air in one week, depending on the series (my guesses for this reason are they are really long and want to maximise profit, for releasing them like that keeps the viewers hooked). -Classic historical dramas have minimal to no CGI, and are usually a)based on real historical events b)romance oriented c)political d)some weird time-travel shenanigans While the different forms of Wuxia series usually follow Taoism and Qi, balance between life and death, demon clan and righteous clan ect; often with heavy layers of CGI. Some CGI can be crappy (you get used to it) but it is getting better (Ever Night for example). -Concubines. Reproduction, uncle, aunts, half-cousins twice removed, that fox that can somehow be related to a bird, concubines and the extreme need for children. -Names depend on your situation. Suffixes are used for royalty, someone close to you, some stranger, someone you kind of know, someone younger, someone older, someone with higher status, someone with lower status, someone related to you and how you call yourself depends on how the other person calls you (Often you would see characters referring to themselves in third person.) -Titles: I have no idea either. never studied Chinese history. -To know if the name they're referring to is an item, place or human often depends on suffixes and prefixes. But for Wuxia dramas, there are names that commonly appear and are part of Chinese mythology which they expect their viewers to understand. -Family drama. Series are just more interesting. I mean, the family drama is usually the sub-plot (with the main plot being an evil king or a love quarrel). Without it, a lot more filler episodes will exist. -Idioms: just infer. I don't know what they are saying half the time either, especially when it comes from those wise old men. -I mean, if someone gets kicked in the guts with some mysterious magical force (or from a dude that can somehow glide off a roof by spinning), what else is supposed to happen? And also, it brings their characters bad-assery rather up 10 levels or their shame and weakness down 10 levels.
And this is all I know as a Chinese/Canadian. Hope it helped a bit? Also if you want a list of Romance or (more) Positive Chinese dramas I can give a list. (Though I do admit, it's pretty short)
Hopefully, he won't hold back on murdering people just because the female lead says so. It's so god damn irritating when that happens where the MC is supposed to be cold blooded and stuff but gets stopped because of "love".
Won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's an amazing drama and in my opinion underrated.
currently holds 10 episodes; use the other link and not the Youtube one.
(Correction: Now holds 12 episodes)
Also does a VPN work? I'd like to know.
