i would love if they could release what sulli filmed, but of course with the consent of her family. it would be such a lovely last gift to all her fans who loved and rooted for her.
a creative take they could go with is to cast different actresses for different episodes. i'm also sure doing this would create so many opportunities for some rising actresses as well, which i'm sure many people would greatly appreciate.
the book definitely hits harder and covers more topics (highly recommend everyone read it before watching!!! it's a quick read!) yet the movie still managed to make me cry. bonus points because the character gong yoo plays feels so much more supportive in the movie lol
i'm glad that in the movie, we can imagine that jiyoung is able to fulfill her dreams, passions, and interests later on in life, because the book definitely provides a more realistic (enraging) take on what women--and specifically korean women--go through
really enjoyed the first episode and the critiques they drew on collectivist cultural values (i.e. following your (unstable) dreams > the stability your family wants for you; thinking about how you represent the family unit; women and the expectation to get married, etc.)
betting on your life and putting your all into your dreams especially if it's within the entertainment industry, i can imagine, is difficult af especially when your family is always at the forefront of your mind. but at the end of the day, your life is your own and as much as you want to make your family proud and don't want to be a burden, you just have to remember that they're not the ones living your life. sometimes, you really just have to do what is most fulfilling to you! even if hurts you to know that your parents hate to see you struggling, for some of us, we'll never truly satisfy that desire we have unless we know we've tried absolutely everything.
lolll idk what i'm saying but as an asian-american i just really resonated with a lot of the dialogue, especially b/w park bogum and his family :(((
overall, i enjoyed the first episode but the tone is kinda weird and feels like it doesn't really??? establish itself, i guess...? it's kind of all over the place. some parts felt really corny and fluffy which is fine--but then i feel like when things could easily go dark/slice of life there's something being held back and then it's back to corny, fluffy lightheartedness again. idk lol. i just feel like the rapid switch in tones within one episode doesn't feel organic, but maybe that's just me. (((ngl, i do hope we get a bit more slice of life vibes in this bc i know both bogum and sodam can easily carry that genre!)))
final thoughts: just, LMAO. wtf did i just watch???
i still can't pinpoint the significance colours have to do with anything, so, for the benefit of the doubt, i'm just going to assume that the painting scene was a metaphor...??? for something... larger...??? but i just don't get it lmao. if a complex, more perceptive mind can explain this all to me, please do so. the director said the colour scheme to the casts' wardrobes would all make sense eventually but........ i'm still sitting here, thinking, wut the actual fuck???? lol
midway in the drama, everything was becoming a little too far-fetched and campy for me and all the plot holes just kept getting more and more frustrating, so i'm not surprised things turned out this way at all lol. disappointed bc the beginning was off to a pretty nice start, but totally saw this all coming. i tried my best to withhold judgement until the very end so i decided to keep watching, but, oh well~~~ as messy as it became, overall, i can't really say i wasted my time, bc the messiness is what made everything so entertaining!!! lmao
noooooo... why did it get postponed for 2018? :((( i thought the release date was supposed to be around march…
possibly, but if i'm remembering correctly, wasn't he confirmed for this movie way before the ban? i thought i read somewhere that contracts and negotiations made before the ban was implemented would, for the most part, be left unaffected?
the premise had so, so much potential... but with each passing episode, everything's just becoming a littttttttttttle…
@KatySarang_TGeyes
oh yeah, i need to check that out! i was actually supposed to watch that but unfortunately... there's something about jang nara that i can't quite get into. i have no idea why ;;;;
the premise had so, so much potential... but with each passing episode, everything's just becoming a littttttttttttle…
@Jinsoo
yes, my first impression was that this was all the VP's diabolical plan to acquire the company, but i guess i just decided to stray from that idea because... it just seemed too far-fetched for me (in the earlier episodes, anyway, lol. i suppose i had higher expectations, thinking they'd go for a more realistic conclusion). like, really? there are other ways! why resort to murder?--that's what i initially thought, lol. but, well, apparently, i'm learning that anything is possible in this drama now and the most unrealistic outcomes and extremities should be considered!
in my opinion, tae oh has several psychopathic qualities. he can't empathize with those who are around him; he's narcissistic and only thinks about how he can get ahead, and will easily dispose of those he deems worthless or gets in his way. he puts on a charming facade and goes about his everyday life so casually, and it's frightening! at the same time... he isn't quite as calculated, sly, nor as cold as a traditional psychopath is--and oftentimes acts on impulse and lets whatever feelings he has get in the way. so, i'm having trouble deciding whether i see him as a psychopath, or a sociopath now, lol
the premise had so, so much potential... but with each passing episode, everything's just becoming a littttttttttttle too campy lol
negl though, watching is still such a guilty pleasure of mine, hahahaha. no matter how absurd the story's gotten, i see myself watching until the very end. despite all the plot holes and cliches, it's still so damn entertaining for me to watch lmao
** EDIT: i'm also still watching because of the actors! i believe this is my first time watching jung kyung ho in anything, yet i'm already becoming such a fan! he plays his character so well, and it's amazing how, right off the bat, i already saw how charming he was lol. his character isn't initially all that likable during the first couple of episodes, but the actor makes it so that you can't help but to want to root for him anyway. he's an imperfect character that's so relatable and so HUMAN, and you eventually grow to like him more and more. now with the more recent episodes, uncovering how he wasn't the cause for driving jaehyun to suicide, i really feel so, so awful for him :(((
AS FOR TAE HO THOUGH.............. like several other comments have already mentioned, i'm just SO DISAPPOINTED! the story had so much potential to be so great...... but they decided to go for the ~~evil~~ psychopath character (who, as far as we know, has no valid objective for his behaviour just yet. he's JUST psycho!!!) trope instead. idk, it feels cheap and lazy, somehow. but, watch me take my words back in two episodes, lol. i'm still excited to see how tae ho's--and legend entertainment's vice president's role will play into this--in the grand scheme of things. like, WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS??? WHY DID THEY WANNA KILL ALL THESE PPL FOR??? what did jaehyun do to yall?!!!!!!! WHO PUSHED HIS CORPSE OFF FROM THE TOP OF THE BUILDING TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SUICIDE TO HELP TAE HO AND WHY????? if the VP was tae ho's accomplice from the very start, my question is, WHY???? i get that tae ho is probably a psychopath so his motives don't need much explanation, but what does the VP even get out of doing any of this????
on another note, i'm--very clearly--a chanyeol fan, so... let me just parrot what some other comments have already mentioned, yet again: I MISS LEE YEOL!!! TT___TT
(chanyeol posted a scene from missing 9 on his instagram recently, so if there's another "plot twist" revealed in which his character actually survives... OBVIOUSLY, i'll be happy as his fan to see him getting screentime again--but i'll also be frustrated, as a VIEWER, because, WTH??? how would that even make sense??? lmao)
Due to its premise, comparisons to the hit U.S. TV show "Lost" is inevitable. But Choi promised "Missing…
hmm, i don't know; i never watched Lost myself so i can't speak about any of the comparisons. these are simply the words of the director (a direct excerpt from the article i linked above) and i just thought it was an interesting read to share~~~
in any case, i guess we'll all just have to wait and see, how prominent any supposed similarities really are, once the drama actually airs!
Due to its premise, comparisons to the hit U.S. TV show "Lost" is inevitable. But Choi promised "Missing Nine" will be a different show.
"Lost is a story about people reacting to the mystery surrounding an island. (In Missing Nine,) the island is a mere tool that isolates the characters from the world."
"(The island) provides an opportunity (for the characters) to reflect upon their past lives. I think it will be a totally different drama from Lost," Choi said.
