Current King is Gwanghae, father of Nokdu. After his father died, he ascended to the throne, with the help of Minister Heo, which was implied in ep 11-12. But the royal decree states that he should not have been the next king, but his younger half-brother who was killed in ep 11-12 under Yulmu's order. Not sure who you mean he's trying to kill. If you're still confused, you can probably rewatch it again because it does seem a little confusing at first ... haha..
Imagine Nokdu going super saiyan if he knows it was Yulmu's manipulations that led to the danger in DJ's life .. gaaahh.. YM probably won't live to see the day... HAHA.. ep 7's ending is sooo EPIC ~! ... from the shot of DJ losing consciousness... and that new OST.. to her falling and Nokdu catching her in his arms ... waaaaaahhh !!!!... I could repeat that scene soooo many times :)))))

For the king, it's the reasons I mentioned above, and still more to learn about. About Heo Yoon, he's afraid that the King will find out that Nokdu and Nokdu's father (forgot his name^^) are still alive so he sent some assassins to kill them, in fear that it will jeopardize him if the King will know he's been lying to him all along.

It wasn't actually explicitly explained, but from that one episode (sorry I forgot which one it was), it seems he was born in November 19, which I believe is an ominous day for someone to be born at that time. That's all what I know. And probably also, the king might not want any successors to the throne? Eliminating all potential candidates. Just that there's one question still, why did he let Yulmu live if he could also be a potential successor. But it looks like they are quite close with each other and Yulmu, perhaps, has been pretending he has no interest in politics whatsoever.

Well, we just found out from ep 6 that Yulmu is the grand prince, who is later King Injo, who will be king after King Gwanghae from the history. As for the King's son, I'm still not 100% sure if it's either Nokdu or Hwangtae. Let's see what ep 7 will be, if they will clear it all out.
