No hate here, but why is this so popular? More than 1 M views on the first part of first episode. I don't know…
It never comes out of nowhere. The novel itself is already a huge hit, one of the best-selling ever. Plus, horror is the most popular genre in Thailand, so no wonder this series blows up. With its Isan roots and the local exorcist, it’s something locals really connect to. Even people who’d never watched BL were waiting for it, and EP1 also hit nearly 1% TV rating in the streaming era. Thai BLs now are trying more diverse, super local plots. No surprise if international viewers feel a bit left out. It’s super local.
I guess bls watchers in general, including me, don’t really like a pure comedy (rom-com is always the most popular…
I’m not sure about internaltional audience’s view, but Thai BL audience are not into a pure comeday and never happy with original Ossan’s Love, compared to the originals of MLMU and Cherry Magic, which are at least more loved, while this show was underwhelming since its pilot was released. Howeve, I still give Earth kudos as he had a mental health issue while filming this show to the point he had to take a break for a month.
seriously, people need to take themselves less seriously. This series was fresh air, fun and enjoyable. I loved…
I guess bls watchers in general, including me, don’t really like a pure comedy (rom-com is always the most popular though), especially a love triangle trope with an old man who will be always a thirdwheel. Also, it’s a remake from a mediocre show. I love Earthmix too and their acting skills are great enough, but still prefer to see them in a pure comedy with a different trope.
The biggest problem for me was that the boss had too much screen time. I really didn't like the last episode.…
Agree! I couldn’t stand the original. In Thai ver, the boss is still a creep and manipulative, but he is portrayed as a sweet and helpful man and that’s the problem for me. I’m uncomfortable almost every scene he is present, especially in EP11-12. He’s just always there to make Heng’s life harder. The actor did a great job though.
This show was not that bad, but it easily becomes my least favorite Earthmix’s series because comedy is just not my thing; a remake (especially from Japanese ver) is not for me; the characters are too annoying. Heng is Earth's character that I find most uncomfortable and frustrating among all the roles he played in the Earthmix series.
However, Earthmix’s acting in the breakup scene is top-notch. It’s on the same level as the marriage proposal scene in ATOTS. Can’t wait to see them in Only Friends Dream On!
Agree, but I think the boss probably loves Heng because he never displeases and never says no to anyone. For me,…
Ikr. It's even more frustrating when he accepts the proposal just because he doesn't want to embarrass his boss. He has many chances to reject him later but doesn't try enough until getting back to Mo. I understand he is the type of a people pleaser who just goes along with whatever people asks for without thinking much about the consequences that might hurt someone else too. However, I still consider Heng's character was quite well-written, which is why he has been this annoying throughout the show.
I struggle to finish this. There's no truly likeable character in this show. I don't understand why the boss fallin'…
Agree, but I think the boss probably loves Heng because he never displeases and never says no to anyone. For me, Heng is the most annoying character, such a fickle person. It would be okay if he wasn't in a relationship because if he ends up with the boss, he will become a doormat in the relationship, and if he ends up with Mo, Mo's insecurities won't be able to tolerate Heng's people-pleaser nature.
While I like earthmix and their refreshing chemistry in this show, I also think Mo should end up with his ex who has a much deeper understanding of his low self esteem than Heng who is always a yes-man.
All the main characters are annoying and have a red flag, Boss’ manipulations, Mo’s insecurities, as well as Heng’s constant people pleasing, which always cause endless problems. All of them should stay single. However, I still enjoy this show because it’s a comedy. Otherwise these types of characters would give me a bigger headache than Only Friends.
First things first: It's GMM, not GMMTV (that's the TV channel). GMM has multiple subsidiaries that operate under…
Wrong. GMMTV is not a TV channel but is a company under GMM Grammy, one of the biggest and long running entertainment companies in Thailand, and most of GMMTV series air on GMM25 and One31 tv channels, which are also under GMM Grammy.
Oh, and one thing that can't go unmentioned is that Earthmix's acting was phenomenal, from the most emotional and realistic proposal scene in ATOTS, to the heavily angst breakup scene in the comedy.
Although I don't like some of Mo's decisions, I've always seen he has been insecure all along leading up to this decision of breaking up, while Heng, although he is seen good-for-nothing and a spoiled child, has an understanding and supportive mother (clearly his family is quite well-off and financially stable), and is also a positive and kind-hearted person, so it's not surprising he has higher self-esteem and clear about his feelings than Mo, who has probably been through a lot that has caused his self-esteem to be so low.
From this episode, I'd say the main characters were well-written. It's a comedy with better characterization than in many drama series. I can't help but think this series would have been much better received and recognized if it wasn't a remake.
Even in a comedy series, Earthmix still convey simmering sexual tension with appealing cinematography. The kiss scene at the hot spring is really beautiful.
Heng suddenly becomes more handsome and hot when he is in a serious mode. Actually it’s Earth who is always effortlessly handsome, but he just played Heng’s role so well I almost forgot he was that hottest gay man from Pa Pun Dao in ATOTS.
The adaptation from wife to daughter was more meaningful than I thought. The boss is not a cheater and is a caring dad. We see the boss as a single father taking care of his teenage daughter and when he is turned down by Heng, he still has his family to comfort him.
Also, his daughter is a spoiled brat but she still normalizes being gay like most young Thais. No drama of accepting a gay dad but embracing him easily, which really makes sense. I'm just sick of the drama of gay acceptance on TV shows while every Thai school has a lot of openly gay teenagers for ages.
That virtual game rejection was genius! The way Heng shut down Boss's feelings right in the middle of their fantasy…
Actually, Shakrit is a top-tier actor in Thailand with best actor awards in many big projects and is usually paired with top actresses as well. Even Earth and Mix were nervous working with him because they have seen him on TV since they were kids. I agree he is very suitable for the role of Boss, especially the scene where he cries with his daughter. Really impressive. I immediately understood why the producer said he was the first actor coming to their mind when casting.
However, Earthmix’s acting in the breakup scene is top-notch. It’s on the same level as the marriage proposal scene in ATOTS. Can’t wait to see them in Only Friends Dream On!
