What a well-researched & well written article! Thank you so much for that insight. I will definitely check out the movies you've listed & get back to you with my thoughts. Stay safe!

Ahh I see what you mean. I did find it a little too idealistic in the beginning but I think the tone has shifted slightly in the 3rd/4th episode to being more balanced like it's less preachier, & more about action (if you get what I'm saying).. and a lot of it has to do with toning down Iruma's character. But yeah that's just my opinion.
Apart from all the tax evasion, there have been further revelations (her text messages) of how she threw her dog in a remote field to avoid paying vet bills. She also laughed about never paying for snacks in the grocery store by just eating them there on the spot. She sounds like quite a sociopath.
My problem with these kind of dramas is that they don't show a middle ground, it's true that each case should…
Scroll down to read the commentary on the Japanese legal system & why the female judge's perspective is constantly challenged by Iruma & the others. It is not that the show lacks a middle ground, rather Iruma is challenging the 99% conviction rate, which is damaging, and rather different from majority of the criminal justice systems in the world.
(In short, Japan has a 99% conviction rate, where many (if not majority) are convicted without proper trial or establishment of their crime, and that is what the female judge is constantly doing - for her one is guilty until proven innocent, when the reverse should be true where one is innocent until proven guilty)
Understanding this background really helped me enjoy and appreciate the drama more.
Nakayama Yuma - YOU HAVE FOUND A FAN IN ME. Somebody please give this guy more roles. He was freaking BRILLIANT in this.
A tight-scripted, raw, and thought-provoking drama that was carried by A1 music, this captured the psychology of a boy who was abused since his childhood & how that shaped him. It was a tragic, yet very real story of how society and the various institutions failed to protect this young innocent boy. It brilliantly captured what it means to be human. The acting was freaking fantastic, and the whole screenplay was real, without a single false moment. An A1 drama all around; easily one of the best in the psychological genre that kept my interest all the way till the end. Special mention for the Court proceedings which was the closest depiction of how a trial is actually conducted, that I have seen on TV. (The whole drama was extremely real to be honest.)
It was uncomfortable to watch at many points, so please stay away if you are unable to take such raw & triggering stories.
Also Kataro is one petty man. XDDDD
It's even more sad because he's trying so hard.
