The leads were really cute and there was nothing unlikeable about the movie BUT it tried to pack too much to the point that I didn't get why some characters were there. At some point, it just felt a gathering of all the younger A-list actors from Japan, and I zoned out.
I watched this drama an year ago and I still can't find a Jdrama that is as comfortable and funny with the same…
You can check out some of these dramas -
Beach Boys Satsui no Michinori Hot Spot Trespassers Rebooting If Talking Paid Mr Nietzsche in the Convenience Store My Dear Exes Quartet Ikebukuro West Gate Park Shinjuku Field Hospital Yutori Desu ga Nani ka
This drama is just very badly written overall. Finally dropped it at E11. Can't even be bothered to finish it anymore.
The convo between the ML and 2FL had little effect whatsoever because like the show never fleshed out why their relationship went south. Also wasn't he in love with her when the drama started and then suddenly he didn't love her anymore?
Prosecutor randomly grew a conscience after talking to FL. Yeah right. If only all bullies were like that.
Badly done murder mystery - i mean there was nothing unpredictable, no shock value. A whole 11 episodes of running in circles leading to pretty much where we started. Also regarding the toxic substance found in the ML's blood and the friend's - was that something the writer overlooked? Who gave them that substance LOL What about the voice recording with the CEO and door lock opening? Another overlooked detail?
Procedural / legal - again little attention to detail there, very different from how it works in reality. Also how did their romantic relationship not affect the case, given how high profile it was? It is a clear ethical breach to be in a relationship with your client. Oh it was just to create the situation where leads could run away and kiss.
Characters have continued to be so surface-level; ML's mental health was barely addressed. He never got a panic attack again (surprising) given all that happened. THAT ABSOLUTELY DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. Throughout the drama, he literally did nothing other than reading the case files with her in E10 to help. Also when will writers stop portraying celebs as having the worst life? Celebs also do enjoy and have good moments. When will they learn to be more balanced about their portrayal?
Leads kissed and confessed, but there was hardly any conversation shown about the status of their relationship.. they just jumped back to case-solving. FL never took agency to solve her father's case, hardly anything was ever addressed as to why she was this cut-throat lawyer who saved criminals (after all the shit her father went through), they showed her like she was very cold but essentially a typical nice FL with hardly any complexity (and you're telling me she's a damn good lawyer) Prosecutor guy was shown as heartless throughout and grew a conscience overnight? 2ML - what was his contribution to the story? 2FL - again what was her contribution to the story?
You're telling me the prosecutor and the police overlooked such an obvious camera at the building? Oh wait, they needed to overlook it so they could drag the drama. What about the 2FL's prints at the crime scene? You're telling me she did such a thorough job that she didn't leave any DNA at all?!
FL finally decides to investigate her father's case - erm.. late much? Didn't she already mention very early on that she regretted not doing anything for her father so why didn't she start then?
Another drama that could have been told in 6-8 episodes but is stretched thin. Can we focus on the case, please,…
Not sure why the comparison with J dramas but that's pretty inaccurate. Japan very rarely makes 1 genre drama unless you're talking about the 30 min manga romance dramas made by smaller networks meant for web audiences or teens. Those are not even considered proper J dramas by Japanese or the general audience. The proper big networks tend to make multi-genre dramas over 45 min length. In fact, Japan makes the most multi-genre dramas, and diverse range of stories compared to other Asian countries.
Anyway, like I said I'm glad you are enjoying the drama and think its at the position it should be. I find that very subjective and I respect your opinion.
I watched this drama sometime back. It was quite entertaining! But i didn’t finish it cos i couldn’t stand…
Yeah it's much worse HAHAHA I wanted to smack her at times but then I also found it funny. But really to each their own, I completely understand if it puts some people off.
" I deeply feel the responsibility for this misunderstanding.." Ehh no. It's a deliberate act. Even school students know that one has to pay taxes according to the income bracket you are earning.

I completely understand. Her english put me off in the 1st episode, but then I realised its Kudo Kankuro so it was deliberate. Ultimately, I grew to enjoy it and laughed along. Also I might be in the minority but I had no problems understanding her English..

I wouldn't take rankings and ratings as an indicator of a good drama, but yes, shows speak to individuals differently and I acknowledge that it is a very subjective thing. I am glad you are enjoying this. Cheers :)
As always, chaos and social commentary go hand-in-hand with Kudo Kankuro's works. What I love and it never fails to amaze me about his work is his ability to talk about hard-hitting social and cultural issues in Japan and make a personal comment on them using humour, but without ever belittling them and without ever failing to see various perspectives, while also keeping it accessible. He's been screen-writing and directing for over 30 years now, and yet he's managed to keep up with time and create work that is constantly different, relevant, hilarious and heartwarming (while keeping his style and flair). There is also an inherent sexism in his work and while he embraces it, he never justifies it or tries to make it right. Rather at its core, he shows us how human we all are. No matter how different, how immoral we are, we are at our core, just HUMAN, and we should root for humanity always. Screenwriters like him, Bakarythm and Sakomoto Yuji (amongst the few others) are truly examples of what set J-dramas apart from pretty much every country. They know how to entertain the viewer, and yet, keep them as real as they can.
theres also no law or anything morally wrong with an atorny to provide acomodtions for a client when his life…
It's not illegal but it is considered unethical, and presents a conflict of interest. This can severely damage a case. This show isn't very accurate legally so I doubt they'll go that route, other than some mud-slinging of their characters especially hers.

I appreciate your reply.
The story has a heart and makes me want to root for the characters, so that has kept me going. But overall, the drama leaves a lot to be desired.
First off, I never judge a drama for the story it's telling. I take the story for what it is and that means I don't have a pre-set expectation on where it ought to go. The writer decides that and for me, the first 2 episodes made it clear that this was going to be a mystery with some romance. But as the episodes went by, the story has clearly derailed. If a show needs me to watch the interviews to clarify the genre, then it has clearly failed. The fact is they're trying to focus on too many things all at once, and that makes it messy. I don't need to know the prosecutor's back story. I don't need to know about the 2ML loving the FL. I don't need to know about 2FL's daddy issues. . They're not adding anything to the story. Sometimes side character stories make the general drama richer, but in this case, no. It is only stretching it. In 7 episodes, just what have we learned about the murder? Nothing, except that the ML didn't do it. Even that the show hasn't actually 100% proven. We are just supposed to believe the ML, and it's a SK drama so obviously they won't go too dark to make him the criminal.
If it's indeed character-driven like you said (which I disagree), then it clearly has failed for me. You said that the mystery is the catalyst to explore these 2 characters - but in 7 episodes, what have we actually explored about them? We have merely touched surface with these characters. She had a past where she couldn't believe her father and that probably drove her towards law. He's had horrible relationships and that makes him sometimes rude, selfish and lonely. That's it. Who are they now and how do they operate - their psychology is so unclear.
As someone who is a lawyer and actually fights for criminals, she is way too trusting in the idol. There is a lot of inconsistency in the way the character is written. Yes he saved her and she owes him her life, but where is the romantic expectation coming from? The fact that she didn't eat and was heartbroken when he was dating, that emotion is very inconsistent to the logical character who works with evidence. They were probably going for the dual personality vibe - logical lawyer in the day, fangirl at night. But that's where the writer's lack of knowledge or research about psychology is apparent - lawyers tend to become very wired to form conclusions based on observations and evidence. Fangirling over a caleb to the extent she does isn't something a lawyer of her calibre would do. Where is her ethical dilemma; a lawyer living with her client and engaging in a romantic relationship is a clear conflict of interest. These are one of the first few things taught at law school. Also, these dramas really under-estimate the amount of paper work, research and writing lawyers have to do. She's really got a lot of time on her hand for all those submissions. Of course I am not expecting them to go into the nitty-gritty since its not a legal drama, but given that this is not exactly fictional and presents a more real story, you'd expect the treatment to be more real as well.
Oh yes, and need I mention this is not a romcom. The word romcom is used very loosely and romcom means romantic comedy. There is nothing comedic about this show at all. The romance is also under-developed to say the least where the show is yet to make me understand why she has romantic expectations from him.
He's clearly mentally ill, defensive and aloof to an extent but the fact that he settles in her house a little too quickly - it was done very safely. He has untrusting relationships all around and he puts his trust in her that easily? Nope this should have been darker and that's the problem with a lot of dramas in South Korea. They always play it too safe. I don't expect him to be sitting around, miserable all day. But its very basic human psychology that when you are pushed to a corner - you either retreat or you push back. He's not pushing back, but he's not retreating either. He's just taking whatever that is thrown at him and his character is going around in circles rather than actually responding to the situation at hand. A mere change in environment will not relax one's symptoms - rather in most cases, it makes the person obsess over the new circumstances and anxious. He has panic disorder. Does the writer know how that works? Clearly not. But yes, again the writer just wants to present a boy meets girl love story packaged in a murder mystery. The fact that he has murdered has added very little to the dynamic other than we're in this together.
Anyway based on your reply, they'll leave all the development for the last few episodes. Right now they need to add fillers. And you're telling me for a 12 episode drama, it takes him 10 episodes to start to do something? Nahh
As both a psychology and legal major - this show has failed in developing the characters and exploring the basic mystery. Not gonna go in depth about the mess the whole investigation and legal proceedings are because clearly the writer does not know how that works other than what he/she picked up from some dramas and movies. Romance, too, is not well-developed with surface level conversations. Leads can act and have chemistry so I can see why many ppl love this.
