I'd like to say something about all those many comments about the first episode with the ML going to Africa. I think that part of the plot would seem normal to the screenwriter, because South Korea has been for many years in the 'top 15 countries in the world' with the most number of volunteers abroad (21 out of 100 south koreans volunteer abroad), so I believe that those scenes were written to show a side of the ML.
And about portraying Africa as needing volunteers because of poverty, the girlfriend of my son just came back from Nairobi, Kenya where she was volunteer for 2 months for poor small kids. And Kenya has the 7th largest GDP in Africa (US$ 114 billion) and she was in a group of 31 volunteers from all around the world sent to Nairobi. I repeat, to Nairobi, the capital of the 7th richest country in Africa, which is not even one of the African countries with the most volunteer programs to 'Alleviate' poverty and resources problems . The top 10 world countries with the most volunteer programs include 4 African countries: South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Ghana. Of the 27 countries currently ranked by World Bank as the very poorest countries in the world, 23 are located in Africa. Africa also includes 21 of the world's 55 Lowest Middle Income countries.
This explains why volunteers go there, despite the fact that Africa has great cities, middle and high income families, etc.
By the way, I'm from Latin America, and it doesn't bother me at all that we're always portrayed in movies and dramas as poor despite the fact that we do have very modern cities, infrastructure, etc, because the truth is that the majority of our people are poor. We cannot afford pride. We want as much awareness as possible and as many volunteering programs as possible to help us, since our governments are either corrupt, or lack resources.
Very good article. Since then, 2 other versions have been released: the chinese 'Meteor Garden 2018' (my favorite together with the taiwanese 2005-07-08) and 'F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers 2021)', which is in my pending list. If you have watched them, it would be great that you update this article with your review about them.
This might sound weird but I watched the anime version and not the drama and the anime was so good. I mean you…
The anime was done after the drama was a huge hallyu success and used the original k-drama cast voicing the characters, so, even though it will be more melodramatic, there's a good chance you'll like the drama
I must be a masochist because here I am starting another itazura no kiss. The MLs always break my heart after…
I don't remember much about the movies, but this taiwanese version, and thai version Kiss Me (2015), are the ones with the best ML among the dramas, in my opinion.
Lolšš¤” Uncanny Counter and Kingdom as masterpiece? and SH adaptation aren't even that great to become masterpieceI…
So you just joined to reply to my comment. I feel honored, really sincerely (no sarcasm). It means my comment went beyond just stating my opinion, to invite a healthy discussion. Welcome to MDL!! A good tip to help you would be to get familiar with what ratings a member has given, before guessing the tropes they like. Just go to the profile of any member, click below the member's image to go to their lists, then click in 'Completed' dramas, and you'll see the ratings they gave to similar tropes. For me, similar dramas that I loved, would be Le Coup de Foudre or Forever Love, but there were not super perfect guys chasing the FL, if I remember well.
Can anyone recommend more shows like this with no love triangle, no annoying second leads and no misunderstandings
Some suggestions (also, most of them are often included in lists of most popular or highest rated or top romcom):
- K-dramas: Whatās wrong with secretary Kim - My love from the star - 18 Again - Go Back Couple
- J-drama: Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu (a very cute romance)
- C-dramas (school/college):: Forever Love - Le coup de foudre - Love o2o - Put your head on my shoulder - Meeting You - Our secret
- C-dramas (other):: You are my hero - Boss & Me - Arsenal Military Academy (republican) - You are my glory - Falling into your smile (much better than Go Go Squid)
No suggestions for Thai dramas because I haven't watched any without misunderstandings.
Could you share spoilers? Iām trying to decide if Iām in the mood for this. I just started episode 3.Does…
It's a funny fluffy romcom, very average script except for the funny parts inserted in dialogues and scenes. I loved the ML acting. The villains are cartoon-like-ridiculous and get what they deserve, The main leads get together in ep 15. This is a relaxing watch for between heavy dramas.
I just started this. Could you tell me if the main couple gets together early on or towards the end of the drama?
They get together in ep 15, then later on have a short break up and then together until the end. The ML is the cutest boyfriend, and also made me laugh a lot.
I laughed out loud at least twice in each episode. Even the silly clown manager of the ML cracked me up in ep 18. Just for this, and the ML who I loved and will follow up in the future, this goes to my rewatch list despite its many flaws . It also loved the OST.
