I understand what you are saying! But in MY opinion it doesn't make sense and it's not a good change. For the HK adaptation I thought it was a good addition because his mother doesn't have that big of impact in the first part of story and I also don't think this was a big deal at the time just cause its not as popular as this version. For me it doesn't make sense because is a spin off to the original series. If it were from Ossan's Love Return I would understand but it's okay I guess. They did it more because of other reasons that I saw explained here in other comments.
