I am currently on ep 47 and you echoed my thoughts. Now I am only watching for Zhang bin bin, yu zihan and anye…
I had the same feeling for Dilraba and Zhang Bin Bin’a other drama The King’s Woman. Decent story and their chemistry is much better but for some reason it just wasn’t a really memorable drama for me.
Nice article. I am watching! I was hooked right away but I had to do a lot of pause and rewind to make sure i…
Thank you! And same here. I had to rewatch the first episode a few times because I A) wasn't sure I was watching the first episode since it throws you into the middle of the story and B) it was hard to catch on to all the characters they were introducing right at the start, so I needed to double check myself. Hopefully Viki will sub them quickly. I believe they have 1-10/12 available so far. Productive Procrastination is putting out 1-2 episodes every few days, but I'm kind of forcing myself to avoid watching because I want to binge watch this drama haha.
It'll be easier for me to follow when I can watch continuously and not wait between days
I like your article so much, so much, so much. Is there a lot of love-hate between the leads ?I've got a weak…
Thank you so much! So far it's mostly a lot of hate haha. You can tell that they somewhat care for each other, but there was a lot that happened between them that created a lot of distrust and dislike. They're just now starting to show what happened between the main leads in the past, so I'll get to find out along with you!
what is up with this synopsis? So they both lose their memories?
Both through different ways they essentially both lose their memories. The story resumes a few years after they’ve lost their memories and proceeds from there
I'm still reeling from the last episode. I really don't understand why the fateful outcome had to be Feng Tai…
Same. Obviously she wasn't gonna end up with Rong Zhi, but I feel like her ending with Gu Huan was so upsetting (especially after Rong Zhi explains to the others what she truly meant) but at the same time, I think dying to protect her country was still a happy-is ending for her. Even though she loved Rong Zhi (and Gu Huan to an extent), her love for Wei definitely was just as important.
I honestly really like this drama. Is it legendary status, no, but it’s keeping me really interested (compared…
They never recover their memories. Really the drama is like two completely different stories. The first 16 episodes are one story. Then eps 17-54 are the main core of the drama, but it follows the two of them through marriage in Wei guo. There's really no reference to them while at the Princess' manor in Song until the last episode.
Ma Xue Yun (the concubine) eventually passes away (but she's there for a good bit of the drama.)

It feels like a more natural progression to me haha, rather than all of a sudden the empress who fell from grace comes back and then she wins. Like she was always just a side character (not even really a support character for me, she was just kind of there up until they found out her secret) and then she is the one who gets what she wants? Meh.

Yeah I was remotely rooting for the emperor either. Honestly was kind of hoping it’d end up being that they both died and Rong Zhi and Chu Yu raised him xD but that would’ve been too ideal.

If it’s going by the novel then yeah it followed it, but just in general I don’t see why that was the ending. She was never the person that I was like “Oh yeah I want Feng tai hou to win in the end” nor was her character so great that I was rooting for her at any point.
I was honestly a bit confused with things at the beginning - the drama begins in the middle of their story and is now showing more flashbacks to make things more clear - which I kind of dislike because you're just thrown into the story with no background or reference.
Once I got past that and just focused on what I was actually watching, things got better and more entertaining. Honestly it's worth a watch (from what I've seen so far) but it's definitely a long crawl to the finish.
There's only one person (Productive Procrastination) subbing the series right now and they're putting out about 1-2 episodes a week, so it'll be a while before it's all finished. Viki is also starting to sub it, but they won't even have the first few episodes for about a week.
My Chinese is decent enough to watch some dramas without subs, but I've already tried and failed with this one, so I just have to wait for subs. Le Sigh.
I'm so confused by the ending. How did rong zhi and chu yu meet after he "died".
I'm still reeling from the last episode. I really don't understand why the fateful outcome had to be Feng Tai Hou essentially stealing the throne (again, I guess) and Rong Zhi just hides away from court.
I do appreciate that he and Chu Yu have a somewhat happy ending, but I still don't get why everything built up to his sister getting what she wanted and everyone else just dealing with the outcome.
So many questions and emotions after that last episode.
It is it actually entertaining. The only sucky thing is they spend so much time on the General I skip her parts.…
Currently watching it on Viki. Gonna be Honest, I’m only watching the rest because i’ve Already seen so much of I. It really hasn’t been that great in my opinion. Nothing terrible but nothing that makes me particularly excited to watch.
It gets a bit confusing later on but after ep 16 there's more romance i guess you can say and its more funny
TFD isn’t bad but it’s just not Captivating me like other dramas have. Untouchable lovers I honestly prefer just because (and yeah all dramas are cliches at this point), it at least tries to keep people on their toes. TFD I feel like is just coasting at this point. I love dilraba and Vic Zhou but they really don’t have great chemistry together.
Song wei long and Gabrielle guan are definitely very new to this which you can see, but I feel like they bring their characters to life a bit more than TFD’s actors are. Maybe i’m Just not paying enough attention while watching TFD but it’s just average for me.
I honestly really like this drama. Is it legendary status, no, but it’s keeping me really interested (compared to flame’s daughter which i’m Just finishing because i’be Already seen most of it). I will agree that there’s WAY too much time spent on the second female lead. But I just skip her parts ????????♀️

I’m caught up to what’s premiered so there’s 2 episodes left. Honestly I think the show is one of the better ones i’ve Seen recently. It’s somewhat predictable at Times but other times I really couldn’t guess what was gonna happen. I can’t wait for the last two episodes but i’m Actually going to be really sad when it’s over.
Productive procrastinator made a post about this matter.https://productiveprocrastinationsite.wordpress.com/2018/03/18/the-secret-behind-yi-lian-kai-yi-lian-shens-names-10-min-read/
Oooh thanks! I figured it was just some old Chinese custom (i’m Vietnamese so I have a formal Vietnamese name and also an at home nickname, so I figured it was something similar), but I’m glad I know the definite reason.
