It is it actually entertaining. The only sucky thing is they spend so much time on the General I skip her parts.…
Yeah I liked her at the beginning cause it was fun watching her scheme her way out of things, but after the first plot with the first governor of Ji Zhou I got bored and started skipping through her parts haha.
I honestly wish Chu Yu was still more of her old personality (before the amnesia) because now she’s just typical innocent and naive (though she is still smart enough to get herself out of trouble).
It gets a bit confusing later on but after ep 16 there's more romance i guess you can say and its more funny
Currently on episode 42. It's not the best tv drama I've ever seen, but i’m really enjoying it. I'm not sure why there were so many comments about it getting really bad or ridiculous. I'm definitely more invested in this than I am with The Flame's Daughter (and I love Dilireba).
I don't think it's gotten ridiculously off plot or hard to follow or anything, but it's starting to just be fairly stereotypical plot wise.
I will say that I'm not a fan of the fact that the female lead character seems like a completely different person by the "second" part of the story (after the amnesia). It's one thing to forget things, but I feel like her personality is very different from the first 16 episodes.
Less than 10 episodes left, so I'm still excited to see how this ends.
Just watched episode 16 last night and can tell things are about to change. Without spoilers can someone let me know if it gets ridiculous enough to not keep watching? Cause I’m a little obsessed with the show right now
I honestly haven’t seen a ton of his dramas. Meteor garden, Mars, Sweet Relationship, and Flame’s daughter…
Yeah I'm really excited for his comeback haha. It goes to show how popular he really was that he can land three mainland dramas after taking a 5 year break
Fairly excited for Deng Lun, but honestly not a fan of Yang Zi (or at least I really didn't like her character in Ode To Joy xD) Hopefully this will be a good one though!
Fairly excited to see how they will turn an American tv show into one compatible for asian audiences (condensing the show into 16 episodes). Definitely a fun premise, though I wonder how many similarities there will be
Could someone please tell me what kind of ending is that? Happy or not? I don't mind spoilers.
Happy ending for the most part. Everything works out for the main actors (though theres a bit of sad stuff that happens towards the end of the drama), but overall happy.
i just watched it for the first time about a week ago. I wasn't getting enough of him for my taste in The Flame's…
I honestly haven’t seen a ton of his dramas. Meteor garden, Mars, Sweet Relationship, and Flame’s daughter are the only ones of his i’ve Seen. Partly because he took a few years off before flame’s daughter, but mostly because I switched over to watching mostly mainland c-dramas in the past few years so didn’t keep up with tw-dramas.
I remember hearing good things about Black & White also (I think that was another old one of his also starring Kingone Wang). He doesn’t have a TON of well known dramas really, but the ones that he has filmed are all pretty good as far as I’ve heard.
I'm more than halfway through already, so not gonna drop it. But I do agree for the most part. Some of my favorite scenes are between the main pair, but their chemistry isn't even that great - which is saying something.
It's definitely not a drama that is going to blow your mind with stellar acting or plot points, but it's a decent watch. I've read many comments saying the last few episodes are let downs - but we'll see when we get there.
They just work for the same company and get put into a lot of dramas together because they are the same generation of newer actors. They're cute together, but I don't really ship them haha
Always love Joe Chen dramas! Also super excited because (I think it's the same Empress DuGu lol) of the Legend of Dugu which is coming out this year, which would be fun to see two representations of her life.
Highly not for Vengo and Dilraba. Rumored is that Barbie Liu is taking the role Feng Jiu for this drama.
Ugh that's so depressing. Honestly, I liked Feng Jiu and Dong Hua more than the main couple haha. I'll probably still watch, but definitely gonna be lacking.
At least for the first 40 episodes (minus a couple randomly) all of the subs were legitimate subs (proper english, not just straight translations of the Chinese subtitles). If you want to try it out I definitely recommend, just be wary that about 3-4 episodes within that 40 episode span don't have good subs (not really sure who was subbing the first part of the series) and then I couldn't find any after episode 45 or so with good English subs.
Also if you can't watch this one and haven't seen Legend of Zhen Huan yet, I highly highly recommend that one (as my review clearly mentioned haha). Similar set up, but Zhen Huan was much more focused on the inner harem fighting whereas this one has a bit but has a big focus on what was going on politically as well!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLh4Ls_32Ek (Legend of Zhen Huan ep 1 with subs!) I'm pretty sure youtube has all of the episodes (76 i think?) subbed but if not Zhen Huan is much more widely available with subs on other websites (I normally use Kissasian)
I just finished it too :D It was very addictive series. I liked Chu Qiao character. Hope for more someday :P
I've actually seen it twice now (because it's on Netflix so it's so easy to just binge, haha).
It was one of the first dramas I've watched in that time period (Battle of Shanghai/War with Japan). But honestly, ZLY and the general storyline didn't make it feel like a period drama. It easily could have been set in present day and been just as good.
It's actually one of my favorites of ZLY's because it really showcases ZLY's acting abilities (she's honestly always plays characters that are fairly well developed), but I feel like you just get so much out of her acting with this one. Cutesy rich girl, hardworking trainee, super witty super spy - all super good!
I have a question about the ending: But is it more satisfying or depressing????????? But PLEASE no spoiling. Though…
Definitely a cliffhanger - the producers are hoping for a season 2.
Compared to JOF, I think this ending is more "bittersweet" as you put it BECAUSE it's a cliffhanger. I'm not sure if you've watched by now or not, but essentially she comes to her senses by the end of it and then it's like "oops, you're a little late to the party" feeling. Definitely closer to depressing than satisfying, but again with the cliffhanger it leaves hope for the future.
Journey of Flower to me didn't feel super satisfying in that the whole time you're waiting for the two leads to really fall in love with each other and then by the end scene, it still feels like they're still in that student-teacher relationship, even though they are happier because they can at least be more open about their feelings.
Hey is this the kind of drama where all the side characters you come to love, die or go mad??Because I don't want…
Kind of yes and no? There aren't characters dying left and right (not the ones you're rooting for anyway), but all of the characters by the end are fairly twisted (compared to the beginning) because of everything that happens - so most of them turn rather dark/vengeful.

This is the link for the videos on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWcRkS9eCjE (Episode 1), just be sure to turn on the subtitles!
