Am I one of the few that actually enjoyed the first episode? I was all prepared to be bored, but to my surprise found it to be quite fun

Not only that, this is a dude that has been actively trying to kill her brother as well and successfully killed many of her citizens. They weren't in a cold war and just had bad relations, her brother 100% nearly died because of him. Someone needs to tell her he's still trying too, because what even? So many people to choose from and she chooses the absolute trashiest one because of some water...

Exactly! All I got from that was whiplash and that the emperor is clearly insane and SHOULD be removed from power, because he went from loving their relationship and being entertained by the story with the flower, to acting unhinged and denying their marriage, making the ML deliver the news himself under threat of his family's lives, back to letting them get together (but only after many people died as a result and shifting all blame to the 2ML since emperors are beyond reproach)🙄🙄🙄

The last minute angst made no sense, the emperor choosing to take his two very loyal and happy generals and thrust them apart and make them resent him sounded like a good plan? To make the two most powerful people on his side hate him? Just because of a few words from the annoying 2ML? Dumb. I get not wanting two powerhouses to be on each other's side in the event they decide to overthrow him, which is unlikely considering their loyalty. But, not allowing them to marry doesn't change anything at all in relation to their love for one another, they would still ally with each other if it came to it. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I'm not actually done, I still have 2 episodes to see how this resolves, but the eye-rolling is immense. Rant over.

I'm absolutely loving this so far, I'm glad it's living up to my expectations after seeing the trailer forever ago and that the wait is finally over TT-TT
I also love that there is no deception to deal with later, they both know each other's identities from the get-go, so refreshing

Okay, thanks, that's what I thought. You can usually spot discrepancies from the book when things don't flow quite right because whoever is in charge of the changes doesn't properly put themselves into the role of the character so they end up doing things that don't feel right. I watched part of an American show that felt so off that I decided to try the book to see if it was just as bad, but the book was great and made so much more sense. I wish TV adaptations tried a little harder, they can still make the dramatic changes they want while staying true to the characters. Phew, that's a bit long winded considering I only meant to say thanks for confirming! Haha

Watching their goodbye in 36, and seriously what is her deal? I don't understand why she's upset and pushing him away as he tries to reach out, I really don't. This was doing so well until this arc T-T. I was really enjoying her character thus far and I enjoyed Prince Annan's return too. I have a feeling the book didn't do anything like this, feels like added stress for drama reasons that conflict with prior build up. At risk of being attacked for comparing things, I really liked both memory loss arcs in When Destiny Brings the Demon because they stood by one another no matter what even when hurt that the other didn't remember. They recognized they were same person even without the memories. We can work around their individual responsibilities. If it wasn't for the CP they could totally get married as a way to make peace between the countries. Of course, I've seen spoilers so I know what ends up happening, but I really feel they should be talking to one another. And she should stop shutting him down every time he tries to talk. For me personally, this was super highly rated until this moment. It's definitely taking a hit for the unnecessary and lacking consistency angst.

Rant time:
Overall I'm really enjoying this. Not quite done, but close enough. Only thing that bothered me is how the FL and Lu Xin treated the ML after he forgot everything. It was inevitable and they all knew that, but they seemed to resent him a great deal for having forgotten. I understand the FL being mad initially because of the whole father situation, but luckily that resolved without too much of an issue. But they kept calling him bloodthirsty and cruel, and he wasn't even the one that started the last battle, that was the stupid crown prince. They attacked him, not the other way around. Once she was captive he didn't really hurt her. He's clearly lost and trying to figure out what he's feeling for her minus the memories, but that kept being met with resistance by the FL. When he outright asked if he was Jin An she said no? Like, she promised if he forgot, no matter what, she would find him and accompany him, but she didn't seem to be trying very hard to help him remember, and even when he showed signs of remembering she didn't help guide him at all? It just felt like she was leaving him to do all the work. Thank goodness for Mo Yin who helped way more in that regard. And Lu Xin, I thought they were friends, but she didn't seem to care about him at all once he forgot and they found out his real identity, even asking why Mo Yin didn't kill him when he had a chance. I don't know. I just don't like the reactions of the people that were the closest to him during that year when they knew he'd forget everything. Felt out of character. And the FL being so willing to abandon their relationship multiple times because he was no longer Jin An even though she promised to stay with him(one could sometimes see it as her trying to protect him, but not always. I really wanted her to chase him down and shake him up, call him Jin An, help him remember with something more than playing music badly). It's one thing if he's out here being crazy and harming everyone around them and attacking their country, but he's not? He's being fairly chill all things considered. Anyway, rant over, just really didn't like how they went about his return to being Ao Deng.

I'm rewatching this and I'm only up to episode 7, but wow, I like Yan Zi Jing so much more this time. I already liked him before, but was a little iffy with his treatment of Duan Wu in the beginning even though I mostly understood why he was being that way, but now that I know everything and understand his character better he's so much more fun to watch as he slowly helps her grow and his little quirks and how he cares for her in his own way.

In the middle of episode 9, how dare they use that song there! The trauma hasn't healed yet TTOTT

Yes! That's how you make a drama China, everyone alive and happy at the end of all the struggles and a cohesive ending. It doesn't have to be every time, but surely a greater frequency wouldn't be a bad thing. I'm so happy they're all alive TToTT

Like, why would you kill every last one of your bargaining chips? They should have taken the whole household hostage and tortured them in front of him if they wanted answers. Why on earth would you kill them all? Of course he'll never tell you now, that was so dumb. Ah well, at least no one suffered very long except for the poor MC that survives and has to live with those memories.

I've only watched the first two episodes so far and they were very cringe, but I am enjoying it anyway so I guess it just depends on your own tolerance level.

It's funny you say that since I have a feeling I'll be in the same boat as you. Something about it makes me want to watch it, but I'm already cringing so bad just from the trailer xD

How dare they use that song in the last episode? Blindsided me with all the Li Lian Hua feels that didn't belong to this drama T-T

If they make a season 3 they really need to find a way to incorporate Jin Su into it, because he was the only thing that held my interest both seasons even though he was only in half the episodes. Not sure how they'll do that with him being a blobby monster now...it would be cool if he'd be able to keep his mind and control it. The stuff kind of acted like Venom and it looked like they almost succeeded in ripping it off with the car before he lost his grip, so it might still be removable. They should probably stop with this season though, honestly. Especially if we have to wait 5 years for 6 episodes and little plot progression. I miss the days when they only had one season and that was it.
