Good point. I just rewatched the scene and its not possible to know who she actually shoots at. We see her aiming and watching as XingTang fights for the knife with her assailant. They're too close together so, personally, I wouldn't have tried for that shot. But we don't know who LX actually aims at in the end. We just see the gun go off and the other guy get hit. Clever really. We'll never know for sure ...

someone posted that the real historical figure he's based on was only emperor for a year ... so maybe we'll have this one and his heir ... or more trouble amongst family members...

I think her trauma over the past keeps coming up and it's interfering with her life but that's different than not loving him because of it or because she finds him responsible for any part of it. She's a smart cookie so I doubt that she would bother to hold a grudge even if her mother hadn't directed her to just 'live'. None of it is his fault and she knows that so once the 'master' persona falls off of him, I doubt there will be any problems stemming from the past. :-)

Everyone keeps repeating it but I just don't remember their being any indication that our FL is holding the past against our ML especially to the point where it would be one of her reasons for not loving him.

Actually, I think she does love him but she has some things she wants to do that she cant do if she allows herself to really be married. Shell have to devote more of her time to a real husband instead of working her plans and, as soon as shes a mother, she can say goodbye to the freedom and autonomy that she's been able to preserve within their current relationship.

FL is indebted to him for saving her friends because everyone associated with the opera would have died had LJQ not faked his death and sent him away. As for the CP, why would LJQ have killed him when he didnt have to? Its kind of unfairly negative to suggest that he would have done it when he went to so much trouble not to.

They're both very observant, quick witted, strategic, calculating and always looking at the subtle long game. In fact, the way they think is strikingly similar which is part of the reason why he so admires her. More often than not both of them have good objectives ... although she doesn't know that yet... because he sometimes does not understand or think to include other people's interests and poi ts of view when forcing his hand.

And her grandfather would have been the deposed CPs supporter. So he would applaud the ML for helping the innocent man escape and might even have done it himself. It wasn't the smart thing to do for himself and his family but it was objectively the right thing to do.

Yes! I was, and am, hoping exactly the same thing. There was o much he could learn (that he needs to learn) from that conversation.

Ah. You said you were annoyed at the FL for caring about her too much when she was affected by what this woman had gone through. And she would do this much for anyone. And this former enemy was trying to do something good for her when she didn't have to. But I get the sentiment; how you felt and why.

It's what they were talking about that was so incredibly sad. The dreadful wrongs of the time that they, and almost all women, experienced. Being seen as unimportant and worthless at the end of the day. No autonomy or choice. Being used and abused. Thinking about what could have been if things were different and hoping that a better world might someday be possible. So it wasn't just about her death. It was about their tragic shared experience.
