Me too. I'm K-drama fans for decades, but I prefer cdramas air schedule because we got 4 to 6 eps of the 1st day…
Interesting huh? Netflix dramas drop all at once. Here. Gone. Not much chatter or time to think. Just instant gratification binge.
Kdramas on tv go with one or two episodes per week all the way through. They allow for more talk and development of excitement over the weeks but sometimes you can lose the plot to memory holes.
And cdramas seem to play the middle ground with a few episodes dropping at the beginning and end and a build up with plenty of time to talk (and not forget) in the middle.
If I had to choose one way of presenting, I think I'd take C-dramas too. Although I get that it must be frustrating to see so many months of work disappear in just a few weeks.

This is beautifully said, nicely analyzed but do you really mean that nothing has been resolved because of ep39's grave scene? I mean it doesn't magically solve all their problems or erase the past but her point of view has changed, her mindset has changed and a change of mind can, in fact, change everything.
Every once in a while someone will shift the way that you see things in life and that shift does actually have the power to make problems fall away while new possibilities materialize out of nowhere.
How you see yourself can change, how you see your situation can change. Things that looked bad can turn out to be good,
She remembers who she is again. She is Shen as well as Xu. She sees JQ more clearly and I think that will shift how she sees her situation.
At the grave and in the scene where ZXT died, LanXiang sees that JinQi can be a very rash man. He seems like someone who always thinks things through to the nth degree but now she knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has been totally reckless a number of times in his life. Because something inside him told him that it was the thing he had to do.
Burying her family. Going to the military. Marrying her by decree. Saving the deposed CP. They are all things that he really shouldn't have done. He is, indeed, an imperfect person who occasionally just does rash things because something (selfish or selfless) inside him tells him to do it. So, he doesn't think. He just does ... from the gut even though it isn't the right thing to do from many other peoples points of view.
It's not a free pass for his mistakes. But at least she now understands this flaw, this pattern of behaviour and the fact that there are different ways to see the situations and things that he's done.
Everything about a situation can change in an instant and that might just resolve a few things. You could see a huge weight lifting off of LX during that scene. Her body and her expression all lifted.

Oh ... survivors guilt ... that's exactly the right reading of it. He may have seen the wrongness and the tragedy of it all. And felt bad when others blamed the Lins. But survivors guilt never goes away. You can't help but feel relieved and happy to get away with your life but you also think/feel that you shouldn't be happy when others have paid the price that you didn't. It's a really unfortunate thing that keeps the pain and guilt alive ...

Pace yourself. The episodes fly by really quickly because they're only 45 minutes and they're written so well.
I used to feel the same about the high episode count and still sometimes do but I think that most c-dramas fly by faster than you think because productions are so disciplined about episode length.
I love k-dramas but the episodes often run long and drag a little because of it. It's fine with something incredibly lovable like Reply 1988 or Hospital Playlist but when it isn't a masterpiece, the long run time can feel a bit heavy. More episodes would actually be better.

Just an add on about Darcy. I think this was even better than what Darcy did because Darcy was protecting the Bennett family reputation so that he might some day be able to marry Elizabeth despite it not looking so good him at the time. It was more like what JQ did when he so quickly released LX and her family from slavery to make them commoners. A good thing. And thank god. But a teeeny bit self serving at the same time.
This was even better because he couldn't benefit from it but he could certainly have paid dearly for it. It just made him feel better to honor the dead as they should have been honored.
I feel the same way about it starting to wrap up. A turning point was reached today and even if there are 'events' from now on, we are definitely in the resolution of something very important.

Today she let go of some long held grief. Major grief. Very deep, hard emotions that had been submerged for a very long time. And she went a long way towards becoming herself again. A forgotten birthday is akin to a forgotten self that, once remembered, is like yet another rebirth.
She's too smart to have been holding the Lin family and its Young Master accountable for what happened to her family but she would feel tremendous warmth towards anyone who remembers and honors them even now. And to have honored them repeatedly after taking on the huge risk of burying them when it would have meant death to be caught doing so?
No, I don't think that her attitude has ever been too much. He was her Master and now he is her husband but everyone expects her to instantly adapt in mind body and soul like they had ever been on an equal footing.
But today? The first person she saw today is a man who remembers her and her family. The second person she saw today was herself, her whole self. She is Shen JiaLao and not only LX. So, where did the barriers go? They aren't master and slave. They have shared values and a shared past. And he did right by her even though he didn't have to and it was a risky reckless thing for him to do.
So this encounter is important because it has brought her back to herself. She's been struggling with that and not with some need to forgive the Lin family for what happened to her family. That's more of an audience thing I think when the barriers were really about identity.
So now that she has rediscovered the first and foremost part of herself and him ... I think a little warmth can flow between them that could never have existed before this.

Anyway, it may be a good time to buy real estate in the capital but the capital isn't a safe place to live. And the evidence is in the real estate itself. They're discussing it in the old Shen house and they'll be buying up the homes of people who have died in the latest rebellion. So where will they want their children to be during the next one?
Buying low to sell high later, buying in order to rent out the property for profit and buying in order to farm or mine are all speculative ventures that won't do well in every possible future. So I think our girl is expecting that the troubles aren't over yet. Also, does she want to be in business as a landlord, farmer or miner? These aren't half-hearted pursuits and she won't want to take advantage of the poor in any way so she'll do her homework first.
Most importantly, now that the Lin are Marquis they have to be even more careful not to get too wealthy or too powerful because that's just plain dangerous. If she's going to invest, I think she'll do it far away where it won't be noticed; maybe even with Jio'er in that slightly more forgiving place.
I really wanted her to tell her new sister that it was a good idea but bad timing and then I realized that the reason isn't something she wants to share. I don't think that she wants to fly the coop on a high horse but maybe she doesn't want to explain the politics in her thinking in case it scares everyone.

Shen and Lin had advised the previous emperor that his brother Princes were getting too powerful. They advised him to shut them down but I guess he didn't act quickly enough because what they feared actually happened.
So that advice is what got the Shen family killed. Perhaps someone made sure that the emperor didn't forget to kill all of his enemies when he took the throne but I doubt that he needed reminding. That's just what autocrats do when they take over. He did give them the chance to bend the knee and they didn't so they should not have been and weren't' surprised when things turned out the way that they did.
Young Master Lin may have felt responsible and guilty but he wasn't. And his grandfather wasn't either.

That's interesting. They're both doing an amazing job. The fight scenes are grittier in a way but they're also kind of less predictable and, occasionally, they're beautifully shot. There's a scene where they shot the first clash between sides through a bamboo forest. Do you remember it? Dark green. Black. Fighters in mid air. The lighting was perfection. Just like a moving, very vivid, painting. Amazing cinematography. I can still see it in my mind and don't imagine I'll forget it for awhile. There aren't too many dramas where I can remember fight scenes in detail despite not seeing them a dozen times ... yet..

Blossom was great ! I've seen it twice and couldn't decide between 9 and 9.5. But I think you'll like Joy of Life. It has a considerable amount of humor and a really strong plot. The main character is quite a 'character' but the supporting cast (king and company) are also amazing. It's unusual. Like Blossom, it's main character also knows about the future (sort of)

I've been watching mainly k-dramas since 2016 but, in the last few years, I watch c-dramas when I'm in a k-drama slump which is happening more often and going on for longer during this last year. Historical and Wuxia mainly, not so many modern pieces. Joy of Life is my favorite to date although ATC is giving it a run for it's money. But Lost You Forever and New Life Begins are high on my list too. How about yourself?
