Nanke... oh nanke 🤣 the boy was seriously looking for butterflies 😭😭
haha. Poor boy doesn't see the forest because he's so focused on the trees. And ... even if he couldn't see one, he knew that they'd expect him to be able to hear it.

Title Against the Current Spoiler
Ep 19 was so well done. I love the shot of Zhao Xingtang headed off to her next prison marriage while Laxiang…
Maybe I just don't want such a distinguished older gentleman to be evil ... but I thought he was saying that she should 'die' in the eyes of the world but really they would just hide her somewhere, which is kind of what they're doing anyway. She stays in her room for 6 months to a year until grandpa isn't angry anymore.

Yeah that was really unexpected! Hands. Knees. Elbows. Body blows and a punch to the face. I don't know if anyone would ever have put their sword in second gear like that ... in real life but it got my attention because it felt like they were both conflicted; going back and forth between not really wanting to kill each other but not wanting to die and there being a bigger picture to think about rather than it just being a fight between two guys with grudges. ML was confused about why and his 'benefactor' didn't want to be there but was being paid, didn't want to die and didn't want to get jailed. No wonder it got all jumbled up.

Same ... page doesn't load ... just a black screen ... on the my laptop/MDLwebsite but it is working ok on my…
Have you gotten it to work yet? I realized that I misspoke when I said I got to it on my phone/app. I actually got to it on firefox/website. The app doesn't seem to give you room to rate episodes at all. So, the firefox/laptop/website didn't work but my phone/firefox/website did. Weird. I had thought it was my VPN but I use the same one my phone. The only difference is that my firefox/laptop is for linux and my firefox/phone is for android. Anyway, I was wondering if you got it to work. It might just be an MDL problem that not everyone is experiencing.

Maybe the chick and the dude would be able to console each other and go off happily into the sunset together ... :-)

I love that scene in the end o episode 18 where he’s coming down and then it’s revealed that our female lead…
It's the second time that the director has done this. We didn't see how he/she/they get our drunk FL back to her room ... and we didn't see how two horses got four people back home from the army base.

It's like she, the director, is just leaving these moments up to our imagination in a way that's very deliberate. We're meant to see that it's left open for us to interpret. Like we're being given a chance to direct a scene for ourselves. Very clever to get us all involved to this degree. :-)

Ep 18 was the first time I felt a need to skip scenes (I didn't cos I'm committed to the drama). The aerial shots…
Somehow, the fight scenes do look different than what we're used to seeing in other dramas and I can't help thinking that the director is giving precedence to the cinematography over the choreography. Like the slow motion initial clash at the beginning of the fight. It reminded me of opposing sides smashing into one another during one of the huge Game of Thrones battles.

She takes the camera out wide for long shots to show a lot of action seen through the trees or from above and there's rhythm in the back and forth of the individual fight with everything else, that's less important, blurred in the background. She loves the leaping attack, the facial expressions and the details where swords meet and scrape or blood flies off of them.

So, it's more sensory maybe and less about the action/choreography? Or she's more intent on the emotion, personal interplay between characters and, at times, I thought it was meant to look a bit messy like a real fight vs a movie fight with bad moves instead of finesse, more desperation instead of skill.

Or maybe she's just a relatively new director, something of a genius, I think, but not entirely trained in China ... so perhaps she just hasn't got the big sword fight thing down the way it's usually done yet..

Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what is making it different but I did enjoy this one more after a rewatch and I'm finding that it's kind of refreshing to see these fights done differently with a heavier directors hand. I wonder if she just told the choreographer to take a step back and let her do it her way for the most part.

My first C-drama and still one of my favorites. A tiny perfect masterpiece.

I really appreciate this spoiler for something I haven't seen yet.
You're making a guess about what will happen in this drama. A guess. You're saying that it will happen just like it did in the plot of another drama. Not a guess. About a drama that I haven't seen. Except that it's next on my watchlist.
So, you don't think you spoiled the other drama for people who haven't seen it? Of course you did. Unless you are remembering the other drama wrongly.
Hopefully it's not an important plotpoint. But betrayal usually is.
kmt !!!

Does it help them to swap out the faces of actors who get cancelled for some scandal and need to be edited out?…
Actually I looked it up on 3 AI apps now and yes the filter smoothing makes AI face swapping easier and more convincing so there is a dual purpose that I'm sure the actors wouldn't want to think about.

Does it help them to swap out the faces of actors who get cancelled for some scandal and need to be edited out?…
A number of film and TV drama productions have used AI to swap out the face of a cancelled actor with one that has been on their good behaviour. So the production saves its workworkproduct and all the money that went into it by eliminating blowback problems. I wondered (probably naively) if a filter over the actors faces would make the AI substitution easier. So beautify them all as priority #1 and make it easier to erase them if necessary as priority #2.

Does it help them to swap out the faces of actors who get cancelled for some scandal and need to be edited out? Maybe it's a preventative measure in case of scandal edits.

The ML did a run not a walk to the naval base cuz its probably not too safe for two pretty young women to be there…
Hey ty for teaching me something! i had to look that up ... and what a great story. I even listened to part of it in the opera form. who'd a guess I would ever do something like that 😅

I agree that the FL needs to fallible a bit else she will be like wonder woman.
I don't want her to be like WonderWoman. that would be gross. But maybe there's an important point in her having to be so amazing. I mean who ever escapes this kind of slavery? It's all encompassing and it runs on and on through generations. it would probably be very nearly impossible to break free. No? you might even have to be a highly educated, incredibly brilliant noble(wo)man in disguise. yeah? Otherwise ... good luck with that.

I felt the same about that ending. Well, at least she didn’t sing and dance - C-opera style…
I dont think the commander would go out his way for a couple of maids. And I think you have to allow her to be brilliant enough times to earn enough meritfor her freedom or else there's no point in her being brilliant and no point in her wanting freedom. 🙂🙂🙂

Actually, your tone kinda indicates that you don't like the FL or the point of the drama. Are you dropping it soon?

Title Against the Current Spoiler
The plot line at times unnecessarily complicates things, just to make FL look uniquely and over the top competent.…
Except that it must have been difficult to get the guys arresting him to stop long enough to just write a letter with a short instruction message. Going on and on and on with more instructions wouldn't sit well with some guy who doesn't like you waiting. And he knew that she knew so why bother telling her? The ingenious part was figuring out how/where to run into the guy to give him the message. That was the hardest part and who knows if the ML could have figured it out either ... especially in the time that he had before he was carted off to jail. Anyway, I get your point, really I do, but it was all feasible given what she already knew and the fact that he needed her to figure out a few things that he couldn't have planned on his way to jail.
