amazing start! it's like which chaebol is more rotten? and i'm not convinced inho is such a nice guy, considering how awful his friends are. their habits must have rubbed off over the years. i wouldn't be surprised if he really was behind his mistresses death.
my vote is on his groundskeeper/caretaker. but i guess we'll never know.....
it's always the normal ones....lol. but seriously, your guess is as good as mine. just throwing a theory out there....maybe "madame x" was meant to be a parody of a drama cliche/trope -- the one where the person who wants to remain anonymous, is obvious and interacting with the characters, but no one has a clue who they are except for the viewers. except this time even the viewers have no clue who the anonymous person is. the director did a couple of dramas with similar tropes - she was pretty and arang and the magistrate - so maybe madame x was his idea of a joke?
i thoroughly enjoyed this from beginning to end. it was fun and lighthearted, but with enough serious undertones to add some depth to the drama. but dang! would it have killed them to give us a final shot of the gang at the welcome party! lol.
why am i not surprised sharon stabbed soo ho? she doesn't need redemption, she needs to be committed to an insane asylum for being certifiably batsh*t crazy. and soo ho is just as nuts for not following his own advice and going over there. i almost couldn't control my laughter when sharon came out in that wedding dress -- the absurdity of the situation and soo ho's dumbfounded expression was priceless.
Nothing new introduced with this drama, but it was still entertaining enough. There were various laugh-out-loud moments, a few instances where you wanted to slap some sense into a couple of characters, a few too many draggy bits unfortunately, the video department was TEAM goals, as the "villain," Jo Cutter was a barrel of laughs, the romance was cute but lacked a certain chemistry IMO, Choi Daniel was swoon-worthy, and let's not forget the epic scene with Bong Jang Woo's wife "Misery" in ep 15! lol. All-in-all, it was enough to keep my attention for most of the 16 episodes.
Ugh...I feel like I've lost a group of friends with this drama ending. What an emotional roller coaster. This was a 10 for me. It was one of those very rare dramas I actually wish had more episodes. The humorous moments were always counter-balanced by serious undertones that reminded us, despite all of the fun and games, these guys were in prison, facing real problems, and had fears and doubts like the rest of us. I'm already missing the quirky cast of cellmates and prison wardens! Nostalgically speaking, I wish they had shot a scene of them all together watching one of Kim Je Hyuk's games -- but in the end life goes on and it's likely that outside of prison, this motley group of inmates and wardens will never meet again. :(
Is this more like a romanticized version of life in jail? Do they even show all the horrible things that happen…
this is certainly no Oz, which I loved. more like Orange is the New Black. so it's up to you if you're up for comedy with a hint of realism. the writer opted to explore the "positive parts" (if that even exists) of prison life -- which in retrospect, i found to be a stroke of genius. what we end up with is a hilarious and quirky cast of characters that is like no comraderie you've ever seen. yes, it's fantastical and unrealistic, but somehow it works if you let it. that said, there are unsettling moments where they tiptoe around rape, extortion, drug addiction, depression, beatings and corruption -- topics that k-drama isn't ready to address as head-on as western dramas. personally, once i let go that this wasn't going to be a dark and serious drama, i really, really liked it for it's originality, relationship building and life lessons.
somehow I really don't have any clue where the plot is going. I mean, yes, we know that at some point Seon Mi…
they've alluded a few times to where the plot is ultimately leading to ...the possible end of the world. whether this means a literal battle, or an unselfish act/choice unguided by the geumganggo (more likely), eventually sun mi and/or oh gong will be the ones to stop armageddon. i'm also rooting for zombie girl -- at the very least i'd like her to get justice for being murdered and to have a chance to see her mother.
this is definitely a favorite of mine. you summed it up nicely -- the characterization, comedy and compelling stories really make this a drama worth watching. i especially love how unique the plot is, and how the moments of comedy/gravity are well timed and work so well together. it's slow-paced, but never a dull moment. compliments to the writer and direction team.
there really were alot of gems in 2017 -- especially in the law/crime/mystery/investigation genre. with a few exceptions, i pretty much enjoyed the majority of dramas that aired last year with this theme.
This is hands down my favorite airing drama at the moment. The humor alone is enough to keep me eagerly waiting for the next episode. "Will it be curry flavored sh*t, or sh*t flavored curry?" lol
I like Captain Yoo I really do, but I feel that he is acting a bit homophobic here, his reaction after he saw…
The writer has made just about everyone in the drama pretty tolerant and easy-going, so I don't think that Capt Yoo is homophobic -- at least I hope not. I might be reaching, but it's possible that Yoo is also gay and Han Yang's boyfriend is his ex. Both Yoo and the boyfriend studied abroad, so it's feasible it was in the same location (because you know how k-drama and coincidences work...lol), and perhaps had a relationship. It would be one way to explain his reaction when Yoo saw Han Yang's boyfriend, and later when Yoo said he especially hates Han Yang because of...
goblin finished airing the end of January 2017, so it counts for this year on MDL. only dramas that finished in…
ugh...i couldn't get past the first season of bates motel bc of highmore. that, and it just got boring. but i've liked him in some of his movies, so i'll have to see with the good doctor remake. jonghyun is still a shock for me as well -- makes me apprehensive that other idol's with depression might also follow this path.

lol. i'm sure MDL is doing it's best and will continue to work out the kinks in the next poll. i really liked mad dog and guardians, but i dropped reunited worlds. duel took a while to grow on me bc of the shaking camera and the lead male's "screaming/over exaggerated" rampages in the beginning, but in the end i really enjoyed it. chief kim and stranger were probably my top favorite dramas....goblin and strong woman...definitely not as much. i didn't even realize good doctor had been remade into a US show. i'll have to give it a whirl -- but i'm hesitant to watch a "westernized," adaptation -- it's just never the same feel.

i don't remember goblin being a nominee for last year's poll...but i could be wrong since it was so long ago. i agree that duel, guardian and other under-the-radar drama's were under-represented in the poll (which are MDL user driven via nominations), but it wasn't because they were overlooked, but because most MDL user's didn't watch them and/or they considered other drama's to be better within their categories. it seems that MDL only lists the top 7 voted nominees per category. i think this is fair and more than enough. personally, guardian and duel were among my favorites for 2017, but as with every year, the more popular drama's typically win and get more attention. MDL's poll isn't an award's show -- it's just for fun. yes, it's a little disappointing to not see the gems win and/or get more consideration, but there doesn't seem to be a way around it. :(
Why is Goblin in 2017? It aired Dec 2016 It also won for 2016 It's not 2017
goblin finished airing the end of January 2017, so it counts for this year on MDL. only dramas that finished in 2016 were voted for in last year's MDL poll (so goblin didn't get a vote). which makes sense -- how can you nominate in December, a drama that doesn't finish until the following year? as we all know, drama's can drastically change (for the better or the worse) in the last half dozen episodes.
however that said, MDL moving forward, should consider posting a reminder and/or cursory list of dramas that fall between years, when asking for nominations. it would be helpful for users that may not know of, understand, or even remember, which "gap year" drama's are eligible for nomination/votes.
