The impact fiction can have on your mind is amazing. Saw him in Journey of flower, and since I didn't like his…
Aww I know what you mean. I was first mesmerized by Wallace as a lovestruck king in Qing Shi Huang Fei (aka. Glamorous Imperial Concubine, or Introduction of the Princess as this site has it) he captured the misery of his character with so much charisma I've been a fan since. In my opinion, fans of Wallace have to watch this it's one of his best roles !!

Can anyone recommend one of his dramas to me that is not from the historical/fantasy genre...? Thanks
Another vote for Love Me If You Dare!! Whether this is historical is debatable but also Battle of Changsha (Republican era) !
On The Legend of Xiao Zhuang Nov 25, 2015
I don't know how this one will end up being but Xiao Zhuang Mi Shi in 2003 was so epic that it ruined all the future series to do with Xiao Zhuang for me. The worst one has got to be In Love With Power with Yuan Shan Shan as her.

Is it just me or does angelababy have zero chemistry with any of the two leads.. 36 episodes already and i'm still…
I am definitely surprised when I found out Tong Hua wanted Du Chun as Meng Jue, and after watching the series I am just as confused about what she saw in him. While I loved the original ending and how beautifully written it was, I didn't mind this one as much only because the original was so depressing lol .

Stranger things have happened when it comes to casting for this series. Chen Xiao was originally Liu Fuling and Yang Rong as Xu Pingjun. Both asked for the characters they ended up playing as they see it as more challenging. Lu Yi is good as LFL (though a lil too old to be playing a 20-year old emperor) and Su Qing fits the role of Xu Pingjun so much that I cannot imagine anyone else as her, and to think that could've been the actress playing her nemesis Huo Cheng Jun lolll

I need a summary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
Moon Lovers is the Korean remake of Scarlet Heart (Bu Bu Jing Xin) a hit Chinese drama based off the highly popular novel with the same name. Basically the Chinese one is about a modern girl who accidentally travelled back to the Qing dynasty into her past reincarnation as the daughter of a noble Manchurian family called Maertai Ruoxi. Her sister is married to the 8th imperial prince. Through this, she becomes involved with the imperial life and the princes with whom she has a different relationship with each of them. Some are friends, and one even becomes her confidante while others she shares a more complicated and romantic relationship with.

As a person from modern times, she is aware of how history will play itself out. She soon realizes she had ended up in a very influential yet delicate position in the matters of history. However Ruoxi never thought she would become involved with the infamous "Nine Princes Succession Battle" in Chinese history - an intense struggle among the sons of Kangxi Emperor who plotted against each other to inherit the throne. This implicates a wedge between relationships and matters of the heart, as she is basically torn between love and being careful not to change the course of history yet the need to survive holds as she cannot return to her time. Does she succeed?

The princes she shares a relationship with are the 4th, 8th, 10th, 13th and 14th princes. The 4th and 8th are her romantic interests. 10th, 13th and 14th are her good friends although 14th prince loves her as more than just a friend. 10th prince is her very first friend in the ancient world and one who accepted her readily and whole heartedly without reservation from the very beginning. 13th prince is her best friend - the one who understands her the most and has no desire in power but will assist those closest to him if that's what they want. The most complex are 4th and 8th princes who are very different in personality but share one thing in common: they want the same thing. These two fight tooth and nail for the throne, and both want the girl.

Be prepared for lots of swoonworthy princes and relationships among the intense political action. I read that the political aspects and characters in the Korean remake will all be fictional, unlike the Chinese one where all these princes and conflict actually did exist.

Angelababy got ever more popular from Running Man and ofc her high-profile relationship with Huang Xiao Ming. Du Chun apparently is a pretty big deal in China, so any popularity between his pairing has more to do with the actors playing this couple than their actual chemistry- it's hard to see why if based on the latter lol. Did you know Du Chun recommended Angelababy to Yu Zheng for the role of Yun Ge, and Du Chun was Tong Hua's top choice for Meng Jue? So Yu Zheng did exactly that.

As much as I have a love-hate relationship with this drama, I still wish Yu Zheng did not touch this with a ten foot pole. This production does not even come close to being the potentially great drama it could've been. Tong Hua had created something very poignant and beautiful, all it takes is someone to understand that and do it right. The pretty visuals, sets and costumes do not make up for all that fell short in this series. Now that the series is finally over, can't say I will be rewatching this except for some Bingyi-Pingjun parts near the end that I do enjoy.

Angelababy looks every part of Yun Ge (no denying she is gorgeous) but her acting leaves much to be desired. I mean she isn't all that bad in the beginning or for the easier parts like when things are all dandy..for her first TV series she is better than I expected. BUT her emotional depth and range as an actress is essentially non-existent with her inability to transition during the few emotionally intense moments she literally needs to show up for. Like you said, she is only capable of one expression (this wide eyed stare + pout thing ) She does get better though, kinda like the series.

Meng Jue is the biggest miscast imo. Like you said, Du Chun is anything but charismatic and as shallow as this sounds, he does not have the looks either. Du Chun is actually a pretty good actor but for this series, just no. It's worse than her Ling Gege relationship which I already feel nothing for. I find Liu Fuling and his Empress have much better chemistry and to be far more interesting than YG-LFL in this drama version. On another note, the actress playing Empress Xiao Mei is such a darling I'm glad I found her through this series. Her and Xu PingJun are the best cast imo.

I think this novel could have transitioned well into television, but it must be done carefully and respect the style/element it was written in . An emotionally compelling story like this with lots of twists and deep relationships between characters with such contrasting personalities and backgrounds would also require strong chemistry between the leads. Which it doesn't have.

Didn't Jin Yu have a son name Wei Yi? In Sound of the Daughter so how come this is about their daughter.
Funny thing is their oldest son resembles Meng Jiu (or Mo Xun whatever the drama changed his name to) more in personality as he was raised by him for some time in his first few years, and their other son is exactly like his father Huo Qu Bing - cold, arrogant but fiercely protective towards those he loves and just plain awesome

That is one frisky couple indeed

Yes they had two sons and a daughter. Yun Ge is youngest and their son from Sound of the Desert is the oldest.

Not just you. She has zero chemistry with both male leads and considering that the success of the original novel is largely based on her relationships and backstory with these two, it is a huge fail. Bad acting on Angelababy's part and poor directing is to blame for this. They also unnecessarily dragged it out,
it became boring.
Yun Ge and Ling Gege's relationship is supposed to be the dealbreaker to watch for in this drama adaptation, and sadly I felt nothing for them. The political aspects (the last 3/4 of the story) in the last 10-15 episodes were quite well done however. It seems to me the only people who enjoyed this series are those who didn't read the novel and don't realize that there is SO much more to be offered. For one, the tone, mood and theme of subtlety in this novel that were all central to the story all fell short - if not completely missed.

A lot of the plots and development are actually quite poorly executed for those who know what to watch out for. You're right such a good story that was wasted due to poor production. I wish Tangren who did the drama adaptation for the prequel Sound of the Desert and also the hit Bu Bu Jing Xin, produced this one instead.

Rarely do you get a series that comes as close to being perfect as this one does. The casting, cinematography, story development, directing...you name it was just so well done - one would not change anything about it. What an emotional roller coaster but sooo soo worth it and one I rewatched several times already. My favorite historical and Chinese drama by far.
