Haha the kids' story is literally every childhood love trope in Cdrama ever

yup finally cdrama writers know how to write a strong heroine without making her annoying.
And lots of credit to Tian Xiwei for her natural, never over the top yet emotionally rich and expressive portrayal of this heroine!

I like Li Huai An's eyes expression for ChangYu. He acted well in expressing his deep admiration for her. Hope…
Yes! It's subtle and carries depth. It doesn't take away anything from the leading couple, as he's mostly in the background, but the impact is felt in the few scenes

that antennae was so unneccesary LOL😂
The antennae is a relic intended to look like Sun Wukong - who is famous for his antennae-like headpiece. Yes it looks like a roach LOL but not a random artsy or fashion piece

Whenever I see Deng Kai on screen being a crazy psychopath, I keep thinking that Ding Yu Xi can play a villain…
Ding Yuxi would've done Qi Min justice as well..though I can only imagine Deng Kai as this crazy psyhopath. He couldn't have perfected this character more had he tried

Guys, what's going on? Why's this so freaking popular?! I haven't watched a Chinese drama since Revenged Love,…
This is a very well produced Cdrama. The story, acting and characters is one that respects their audiences' time. Cinematography is also great. I hope I have not spoken too soon but some of the issues commonly found in Cdrama in the past (pacing, inconsistent character/acting) finally seems to be addressed here.

How does Fan come up with the Princess' name? I'm not sure how the translation works?
The Princess had a slip up and accidentally addressed herself with first person honorifics used by the royal family: "ben gong" . Changyu - generally illiterate and naive when it comes to these things - did not pick up on this, and thought "Ben Gong" was her actual name. Princess decides to roll with it. She was supposed to keep her identity hidden (having impulsively fled the palace), and the slip up almost cost her had Changyu not been even more oblivious.

I cried when they swapped to be the ones to "Leave". This show is so special because of all these amazing side characters and stories that manage to make us laugh, cry, get angry and forgive all at same time

Anyone else get the vibe that Jin was hella disappointed to be reminded that Chang Yu is married? Not only married,…
I felt the camera pan was intentional. I think it explores the impact Changyu has on all the men, but how they receive it has everything to do with the man that they are. Yuanbao is confused tho sees her as a boss first. He clearly doesn't have much meaningful connection early on in life other than say his grandma whose a mix of authority × family love. People lacking nurture or meaningful conection early on or of any kind, tend to confuse those when experiencing it for the first and rare times they do.

Hence why Changyu gave the same answer. As a boss first but now family.

Hooe he doesnt turn obsessed later since he saw divorce letter in her bag.. and might want her for himself.. also,…
I havent read the novel and only heard the show is quite a faithful adaptation so far with some better changes. As a viewer, I can only hope the same!

I hate love triangles and find this one very unnecessary. So I’m a bit disappointed that they went this route.
The thing is I dont think this will turn into a clear cut love triangle. I think it's there and in the background quietly. Rather she holds his respect as a person and woman first, before anything else. I see this to fall more in style with the theme of women empowerment the show has here

Ep 19 &20 highlight scene ... Changyu prison scene where her willful determination to keep herself strong and alive was beautifully transitioned into a vulnerable breakdown moments later. The guilt and fear about never finding her sister and uncertainty of this dead end. A second later the fire in her eyes rekindle, the last but not final tear streaking down her face as she understands she has a mission to get back to, and carries on nourishing herself to prepare to face this dead end. Oh Changyu.. the woman that you are!

We see so many moments of Changyu being a feisty woman who didnt come to play. Tian Xiwei portrayal of strength is how she carries the quiet resolute of her character so well in moments like this scene.

There was never a clear cut "2nd male lead interest" so far with exception of implied admiration on part of various male characters, such as Li Huaian. However being able to share his presence in this emotionally pivotal moment in Changyu's arc so far is a sort of confirmation IMO.

Li Huaian whose initial curiosity started over an unassuming village girl's unusual ties to Marquis Wu, quiet respect for her way of being, to true admiration and genuine concern for her as a person, was well transitioned. From placing his cape over her during the prison scene, snapping out of duty for a moment as if he had forgotten something with Changyu once she was gone, to realizing imprints left by her was everywhere (or rather, with everyone). The "romance" is quiet, mature and subtle in contrast to the vibe she shares with XZ's.
