Her dad died bcs he was the only one who can create the statue, he was held in captive in the same prison ML was in for eight years. But he died there. The fake statue was Yue family's doing at the request of the Cui family. ML's family has the real statue and is an emerging merchant family, hence why they were anhilated. ML and FL weren't exactly enemies since they had no bad blood between them. But ML did put FL's in harm's way just to taught her a lesson, since he practically grew up in captivity so his way of teaching is quite twisted and shrewd 🫠
