The convention looks like it will be a great learning experience for you as well as an opportunity to present your paper.
A whole week! that's great great, you'll get to explore NY. Do you plan on staying in Rochester the entire week or visitng other cities?
Did you try calling them, you might get better information that way. Or sending an email describing your issue if the site is back to normal.
That would be amazing! I was looking at some phd program in the UK, but I'm worried about licensing problems once I get back to the states, where I plan to work. And like we've been discussing the education systems are different, so I don't think thats the best thing for me. but a fellowship there would be beyond awesome.

I'm sorry about the confusion, my wording was off.
That's interesting. As part of my BA, I had to take course in Literature/English, Sociology (Which is also my minor), philosophy, Math, Biology, Chemistry (only one of the sciences, but I took both), history, foreign language, as well as many other requirements that can be fulfilled using these or other courses. I suppose thats why it is longer here.
So what is your plan? Just a masters and then teach or are you planning a PhD? Do you plan to teach in England or back home?
Just out of curiousity, how long have you been speaking english? Is it your first language or is Polish? I was wondering because your english is flawless.
It sounds like a pleasant place to live and attend university.
Ah yes, I remember having to use the MLA format for lit papers, but now I mostly use APA.

I also had the same thought. They have formed a strong bond, and I don't think he's willing to cause him that sort of pain. But we do have the last miracle. Noooo, I don't thin I endure it if he dies by the end. Right now, I don't think he will, but many events have yet to occur that may change my mind. I thought Kang Chil's intelligence was going to play a large part in the story, but now it seems as though it was only presented to make us beleive they actually are father and son.
Yes, it is a great mind wasted. It also takes brains to be able to accurately carve out those wooden figurines accurately without sketching them first.
I actually love war movies if done right. I like retelling of historical events in general, so I will add it to my plan to watch list. Seriously Bladey, you should apply for a job at a PR firm or something, you can really sell these dramas/movies, lol.

Rochester is pretty far from NYC, it's right by Canada. Maybe try flying into NYC and take a connecting flight there? I'm not sure if theyre more frequent from here, but it's an option. Or maybe go to a neighboring city and take a cab there? I can't sleep on airplanes, so I usually just force myself to stay up until a reasonable local time and go to sleep then. I was only in London for 2 nights. I was traveling with my family to my home country, and we had to take a connecting flight from London, so we decided to stay for a few days and explore the city before moving on with our trip. My parents have a childhood friend who lives in London, so he took us sight seeing. That was pretty much it :( It was too short, but we got to see the city a bit so it was worth it. I was in a similar situation in 2010, but I was only there for 2 hrs, and didn't leave the airport so it doesn't really count.

Aww, thank you! I don't have enough confidence in myself, but I have awesome people telling me that everything will be ok at every step, which has helped push me forward, for I have wanted to give up too many times to count.
I had to google Guildford, I'd never heard of it before. I am horrible at geography, lol. It looks beautiful from the images that came up, very different from where I live. And you're very close to London too, very cool
Oh, how exciting. I recently submitted a study to a conference, and will be submitting another one by the end of the month, crossing my fingers for both. Congratulations!! That's a great achievement. I'm not too familiar with conventions other than psych ones, how are they handled? Haha, well you found an excellent excuse. I'm trying to use the American Psychological Association convention for 2013 as an excuse to go to Hawaii next year, too!

So are you not required to take courses in fields that are not your major? For example, I took classes in almost every discipline as part of the requirements for a BA. The programs sound very different by country. It is a little different as they are at different levels of study, but which educational system do you prefer as a student?
A course with no exam?!?! Lol, I have never heard of this before, it amazes me. EVERY course I have taken has had at least one exam.
Yes, they're more independent, that's what appeals to me. while I can't wait to advance, I am also terrified to begin. I think it's the appilcation process that scares me more. I;ve heard too many stories of top students with excellent grades and impressive applications who were rejected by their dream/ all schools they applied to. That was a main reason why I chose to take a year off before applying.

Lol, no, they're not replacing it per se. After it finishes it's 20 episode run, the drama that will follow it on it air, on the same channel and days/time (Syndrome) is one that Han Hye Jin will be starring in. I'm not sure what the ratings are, but they're probably not great because it airs on a cable channel which don't receive ratings that are as high as the public channels. So far (10 days in the new year) it is definitely the best, but I must say I was a little disappointed with episode 9...
Hmmm. Very interesting, so in what language are they referencing it to, as the Polish definition can be applied as well.

I'm glad to hear Seok Ran continues to be a forward character. The actress, Han Hye Jin, is going to be playing a neurosurgeon in the drama that is going to replace Padam's spot on air. I guess she enjoys roles of the intelligent, independent female. Or maybe just medicine.

is it interesting? It's the only system I've known so it seems pretty basic to me. How different is it in Poland/UK? No, exams are prepared by the instructor for each course you take, but there are ground rules they have to follow that are set by the department. For example, the higher level courses require essay portions to the exams, while the lower levels can be only multiple choice exams if the prof chooses. Are exams dealt with differently in the UK? I'm not sure how my exams will be, but I will find out in a couple of weeks. hopefully they are not too much. Is it bad that I can't wait to graduate? It's my last semester as an undergrad and I want it to be over already...
Of course, I live and study in NYC. And you? what part of England are you studying in? I was actually in London in 2007 and while I want to go back, I'd like to visit new places instead, given the chance of course.

Sorry about, I'm not sure what happened, but I didn't see it.
Aww, you have a baby nephew, how cute! I myself absolutely adore children and have been surrounded by them my entire life. That's great! I think when a parent is highly educated, they're better at interacting with their children, and the child tends to be better informed. It's probably because the child is presented with a stimulating environment in which he is encouraged to learn.
Lol, well he is only 3. I;m not too familiar with writing at your level, but I would assume that writing through emotions is encouraged, not the opposite.
Ugh, I know exactly how you feel about feedback, especially when it's negative. They are trying to help you, and you know that, but it still stings when you don't hear what you want to...ah, well, it's all part of the learning experience we have to g through in order to improve.

The stories are extremely different, but there are small instances I guess where I drew the parallels.
Thanks for the song translation! Wow, this song has amazing lyrics. They can also be applied to the drama... or maybe the other way around?

I'm planning a JJW-PP marathon tonight, so I will hopefully catch up, but this has piqued my interest, what happens to Im Jung in ep 8? My biggest conern if Im Jung is not Kang Chil's son is his cancer, for families do not have to be blood-related, but he needs someone to help cure him. Maybe Im Jung can anyway? They do have the same blood type. Hmm, your theory is starting to sound very possible.
Kang Chil and Chul Su are similar in their occupation and some characteristics that come out. Also the use of the train station reminded me of AMTR as I was watching PP. I may be reading to much into it because of the shared male lead, but there were moments in PP that brought em back to AMTR.

On a side note, I recently saw ep 8 of JJW, and I love the direction the story is headed in. It feels like the story is about to pick up. They are about to take the medical entrance exams, and Sok Ran's plan is brilliant. I know cross-dressing is an element repeatedly used in kdramas, but in this instance it seems like a legitimate reason to do it. It's something that I would have done had I been in her shoes: taking matters into my own hand instead of letting the world decide my position for me. I'm really loving her modernized mentality and behavior, it's refreshing.

I love the full title too, Padam Padam...The Sound of His and Her Heartbeats. It's a mouthful, but very catchy. The shortned version is very creative, Padam Padam as opposed to "Heartbeats" or the like is much more fitting of the drama. Yes, they should receive an award for best title, lol. I didn't know that about the original Piaf song, thanks for the info. So they redefined the word, so to speak, to resemble a heart beating. That's interesting. I'm not very familiar with the Piaf song, but I've heard it before, beautiful song (if only I could understand what she was singing about, lol).

Funny you should mention that, I get extremely emotionally attached when dealing with cases like this, which worries me, as it can have a negative effect on me, but I'm excited for it nonetheless, I just have to work at keeping the right amount of distance. That is why I want to work with children, especially those at risk. To be able to help them is a priceless experience. Childhood is a very fragile time period. Many mental illnesses that arise later in life have their roots in childhood, so intervening at this stage of development is crucial.
No, the classes are divided by difficulty level, and you're required to take a certain amountt in each level. For the highest level, the requirement is 2, I;ve already take about 6, and will be doing 3 more this semester. As you go up in difficulty, the classes become more engaging and there is more coursework to be completed.

I do think the final episodes may be more schematic, as you put it. I believe the main focus will turn to him clearing his name, and proving his innocence, as well as dealing with his illness which will be a different route than the one we have been on thus far. But this is expected, I just hope they present it in a new/refreshing manner. Oh, yes, the directing and camera work are beautiful. Lol, do you see some parallels between A Moment to Remember and Padam as well, or is just me?
Hmm, I don't think the story will focus too much on his son, which is a pity, I like him, and the actor is doing a pretty good job with the role. What do you believe will happen to him?

Your all caught with me now! My biggest fear at the moment is that his son is not really his son, which the writers hinted at. Without his son, his cancer may become the main conflict. I'm also afraid that the second half of the series will not resemble the first. This seems to be happening a lot for me recently. I love the family scenes, they bring out his characteristics more, that last one has made him realize how important his life is. So maybe he will fight for it as opposed to being passive about it.
Haha, I don't usually like dramathons and mainly watch shows as they air. I've found that I appreciate them more this way b/c it gives me time to digest each weeks eps before starting the next, unlike watching them back to back without really thinking about them. But I do dramathons with dramas that have already aired if they catch my interest enough.

I've only seen Kim Bum in Boys Before Flowers before, and that was a while ago, but I love him in PP. He lights up the screen with his presence. He's very cute too, lol. But I love how he plays the angel, I still can't get over "I can't drink, I'm an angel." It had me cracking up, it was as if he actually believed it himself, good acting?
Longer saeguks, wow Jumong is 81 episodes, very brave Bladey. I actually do want to watch it someday too.
About Ojakgyo, the awards it received were from the broadcasting company, so it's not as prestigious. It's kind of like KBS praising the dramas that gave them the most views. And most of OB aired in 2011, so they decided to award them in teh 2011 drama awards as opposed to 2012, I believe. You may be right about them getting lazy, but the awards that actually matter haven't aired yet, so they may want to continue to improve.

The internship is what I'm looking forward to the most. It's at an after school program for children whose parents have abused ("mildly," as they put it b/c the children are still allowed to live at home). The parents have been mandated by the state to enroll their children in the program, and the kids have emotional/learning problems. This I'mm extremely excited about and can't wait to begin. 5 classes is a bit much, plus I'm taking 3 upper level classes which require a ton of reading and writing, but htey should be informative, so I don't mind that too much.
Yay!!! Haha, I'm glad to see you started Padam Padam! JWS, though he doesn't do many dramas, is one of the reasons I started PP. There was something about him in A Moment to Remember that just stayed with me, and when I saw he was starring in a new drama, I had to give a try.

It delves into the worth of a man's freedom and has been doing very so far. The story is captivating, the acting is very good, and the overall feel of the drama is pleasing. If you're looking for a recently aired drama, I think this one is by far the best since TPM, and is on its way to making it to my favorites (if it continues to impress).
I've also seen the first 2 episodes of History of the Salaryman (starring Hong Soo Hyun from TPM) and while I haven't decided whether I'm going to continue with it yet, it definitely has a very different, quirky style as far as kdramas go.
