Wow, so very well said! Especially what you said about the couple and the women.
"you get to see many intelligent and strong women who were most of the times more brave and smart than men which is a rare thing to experience in dramaland."
That was one of the most important features to me. Too bad there is so little with great women who lead :(
Have a lot of fun! Should you not completely like it at first, give it some more episodes... this show changes its focus and themes entirely a few times.. more extreme than other shows :)
This takes a bit of getting used to and lots of suspension of disbelief but so far the story is fun to follow,…
For me too!
But please don't misunderstand! It's very difficult to say anything without spoiling too much and take away the little bit there is. This can't be called "romance", at least not yet and maybe never.
Let's say that there's just not NOTHING at all (as if we were talking about love between the Ice and Fire kings :D ). So don't expect anything really amazing to have happened when you reach the currently aired episode. But maybe you'll crave them even more by then and I can tell you that I'm still as much looking forward to them as I was back then, even though the chances aren't the best.
I see you already got a bit spoiled :( to even find out who might like someone is already half or more of it in this case.
All except for episode 1 are back on Viki.
Seems that someone re-uploaded the episodes right before the awful change for fan channels took effect.
1-11 are subbed atm. 12 is at 20%
Is this going to be subbed all the way.. I see it is only subbed to episode 6...should I bother?
Too bad, didn't notice that, because episodes 8+ are still there... this happened already 1month ago and it got re-uploaded again. I wouldn't consider this to be a bad sign, it's the fan channel after all and as such viki has no control about when dailymotion starts deleting episodes... I hope it's going to be licensed... did you already request? https://vikiinc.wufoo.com/forms/title-request-form/
Loosely related, but do you guys think that Korea is a dangerous place to live for a woman? Those scenes keep…
Thank you so much!
It feels nice to see someone who doesn't bash me :)
"But DEFINITELY that does not mean being scared of our every surrounding and normal daily activities, just because there's males or females around!"
So right!! Exactly this triggered it, why I wanted to say something.
The world is bad enough as it is... if we had to be afraid of such situations, why even bother to go outside (where there will always be some men around unfortunately :p assumed it's understood that more men in a place isn't a factor for more danger but the contrary as are places full of PEOPLE of either gender)
"It's a lot more likely that if a woman is in a place full of guys and one tries to be creepy (let's say 2 or 3 if he's with friends) that the other guys would say something and/or help. We're not *thankfully* still living in the 1800s.(in some ways xD)"
Yess!! I'd even go as far as claiming that chances are better if there were a lot of men than just a few. We just want to avoid creeps being alone with a victim as much as possible...
I especially like your "in some ways" :D
That's also so very true, unfortunately...
Edit: also couldn't agree more with what you mentioned about awareness and education.
Correcting: "chances are better if there were a lot of men": referring to the initial example where the situation was defined as dangerous when there was only 1 woman.
Is this going to be subbed all the way.. I see it is only subbed to episode 6...should I bother?
I really hope so, but it's subbed already until episode 10 + episode 11 just climbed to 75% on viki. Also "followers" keep increasing... I think it's been 500 more during the last 2 weeks.
5 episodes in and this girl has been shoved down a mine shaft, drugged and kidnapped, and then poisoned and a…
:D playing it safe so to speak haha
Really, what I've seen after episode 10 currently makes it look like to me that everything up to that point might just have been the setting up :) + attitude changes in our heroine :) I so much hope she becomes a great lead and stays that way until the end :) the romance might get more interesting due to some changes too :)
The show is also on Netflix IW under the name Empresses In The Palace
I can't be 100000% sure, but it's very likely, just compare the number of episodes :) I know for sure that the newer, Western re-release is crippled and got lots of bad critics (lack of character development and so on)
Loosely related, but do you guys think that Korea is a dangerous place to live for a woman? Those scenes keep…
I just think that your example was a sad one that doesn't make sense when you look closer. Even if it's true for some women (survivors)
If a woman generally -as you said- had to be "afraid as fuck because she knows she is in danger" just only because she was the only female in a place full of men, it would have a lot more consequences and ofc be absolutely terrible if you think more about it!
After all, the problem isn't the many men in the situation you described, she isn't really afraid of men, it's only the men who are monsters and they wouldn't just appear or disappear depending on how many women there were either and it wouldn't make this situation any safer or more dangerous for her!
But most importantly:
Some people seem to forget that it's not a fight of gender vs. gender in such situations.
Just imagine you yourself being among the men in a setting where there were lots of men and just 1 woman...
Now if there were some psychopaths among the men... would you be one of the rapists too, or one of the "good" guys who are also present? I don't have to guess... so how exactly does gender make a difference here? Why even say 1 woman alone among many men has to be terrified and how would it be any different if there wasn't just 1, but more women?
It's good not to be alone with bad people, but which gender the "good" people are... does this make a difference?! That's why I don't get it why women have to be afraid to be among "many men". Unless we are sexist here and claim the majority of men were rapists and evil.
Only because you mentioned it in your previous post, otherwise it has nothing to do with this:
I know the general opinion about assault victims and I agree that it's more problematic for women, but since you mentioned it, I don't think that it's this of an extreme difference (99%) as you said according to newer data.
There are huge problems with the collection of data concerning male victims and female perpetrators out of numerous reasons (acceptance, society and definition of assaults).
The more recent the studies and data, the more they change...
"We assessed 12-month prevalence and incidence data on sexual victimization in 5 federal surveys that the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted independently in 2010 through 2012. We used these data to examine the prevailing assumption that men rarely experience sexual victimization. We concluded that federal surveys detect a high prevalence of sexual victimization among men—in many circumstances similar to the prevalence found among women. We identified factors that perpetuate misperceptions about men’s sexual victimization: reliance on traditional gender stereotypes, outdated and inconsistent definitions, and methodological sampling biases that exclude inmates. We recommend changes that move beyond regressive gender assumptions, which can harm both women and men."
But that is of no concern at all. I know you can't trust these studies and even if there are countless.. it just leads to my opinion that it's just not completely negligible as we thought 10 years ago.
I love your profile BTW and I didn't mean to offend you or anyone.
No, I haven't used Johnson Shampoo :D
Maybe I should, I cry too often in dramas ;)

for them to get to be a couple, last time the boss said probably not, I still give it a 50/50 as an optimist ;)

While it was just few percent 10 years ago it's grown to 10-50% (depending on study, sources, definitions) in recent years.
One of the more extreme examples talks about "women assaulting men almost equally as often as they are victimized by them" : http://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/abs/10.2105/AJPH.2014.301946?journalCode=ajph&&
"We assessed 12-month prevalence and incidence data on sexual victimization in 5 federal surveys that the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted independently in 2010 through 2012.
