Haha, ik it's funny at first glance bcuz i was also confused when i watched it for the first time but now i'm not anymore after rewatching and reading the novel bcuz now i can understand why Chi Cheng's obsession with snake isn't weird as snakes are not considered just some random creatures in Chinese culture, they symbolize wisdom, renewal, and deep emotions . In the drama, they're key metaphors for his vulnerable side beneath the cold exterior, the trust issues, and bond with Wu Suo Wei and there's more to it but i don't want to spoil the story ( you will have to watch the later eps for more better understanding ) .
