Yes it is a big popularity contest. Brands are looking for stars. However not many viewers are willing to give unknown actors a chance. I think tvN's problem is choosing a weak plot/script - SBS and jtbc appear to be doing much better at this in 2025.

They already pointed out that if these were normal restaurants they wouldn't go to the most expensive, yet with the big budget they could afford to keep ordering the lobster dish because they loved the seaweed so much!
It's not surprising, most people who stuck with the drama either don't want the leads to end up together or are disappointed with how the plot turned out.

However, WLGYT and Love Scout were also written by females so I guess it is luck of the draw.
