Shoutout to @ellieamoury, who asked in a comment whether “A Winter Sun” translates literally from the Mandarin,…
Nothing is random in this series is it? It is all pure poetry. Thank you oddsare for this really thoughtful explanation. I knew you were the right person to ask.

I remember Qing Tian says his brother should take the blue bracelet because it is his name; clear blue sky ( but Qing Lang chooses the brown one which is Chang Yang: of the earth, the firm foundation, almost the bedrock). And it makes sense to me now why the word "wanderer" would randomly appear in some of the BTSclips. It was obviously a translation of CY's name.

The use of the possesive apostrophe in Spring Hills' ,in the English translation, means the dream belongs to Chang Yang. But of course it may not be a literal "to sleep, to dream." If QL is the wind then of course we know he literally was CY's sexual awakening. And before QL arrived in Molie CY had plans to travel the world to see all the forests. There is a dream that is stirred by the wind, and someone to share the wandering with? You could list dozens of things to fit!

And there is a call back to the past life where CY lived to 116 to spend the 100 years with QL. I am sure there is a nod to that in this title too.

Thank you again. I think you are right about the title being a map to guide us. It was obvious the English translation didn' really reflect the soul and depth of the original!

How do I put this. This show is finely made. If I were still a student, I’d write my term paper on it. The story,…
Do you have any insights into the actual title of the series? Does A Winter Sun translate literally from what I assume is the Mandarin? I have always thought Winter Sun and Spring Hill are Feng Qinglang and Xu Changyang. I have looked for discussions on this but currently draeing a blank.

Some have subtitles. Some dont. With some, very generous subscribers have added a translation in the comments…
Because they are professional actors who know how to set boundaries and learn to trust each other. Plus Kuma is obviously a terrific mentor you can see it all the time in the BTS and reaction videos.

Just noticed that A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills’ Dream Small Theater is coming to GagaOOLala on…
I can see them there too. I would imagine they are the small theatre eps already available on the You Tube page if you subscribe : the brothers talking about going to Molie, the tent scene, the car, the daybed, the Paris meeting etc.

i want to subscribe their family package on youtube but i'm afraid there would be no subtitles😭 someone let…
Some have subtitles. Some dont. With some, very generous subscribers have added a translation in the comments Some have shockingly bad AI dubbing. Some are just Kuma and Jing Yu breathing very heavily which needs NO translation.

Lawd. Better not be a gap! I read on X that the series takes place in the year 2033. Doesn’t explain 2024 unless…
The 2024 timeframe is when CL and YH made their debuts together in the seties they made together.

He likes the younger brother. I think the series is not just showing it on the face but it is not subtle about…
WS has always like QT but because QT was in a relationship with coma guy he has never acted on it. Instead he became QL’s backer in order to stay close to the Feng brothers. QL certainly understand this. In ep 10 he says to WS that he has often acted with him now he has to return the favour ( taking the photos). Just because QT says WS is interested in his brother doesn’t make it so. On some level QT may recognise there are feelings but doesn’t acknowledge them.

It doesn’t pay to skip scenes. Often what isn’t said is more telling than what is.

i have the feeling both Ql and CY are playing a game we haven't seen yet. what i don't know is if they've planned…
You can get yourself into trouble reading onto things! At first i thought getting the delulu sister take photos of QL and WS but not post them was ao he could use them later to try to convince CY he was moving on. The i got in my own head and thought when he signalled the sister to actually post them it would be to send CY a prearranged message. Now he has posted them and CY has called him out on it I am back to my first reaction.

And what does Square one mean to either of them now they have history? You cant ever really go back.

Time maybe to sit back and just let it resolve as it should!

Thank you. So much is lost in translation it is great to get an insight into the meaning, subtlties and poetry of a language that isn’t your own.

as expected we got the angst, i'm happy there's another episode tomorrow though.throught the episode Zelia threw…
Maybe I have watched too much drama over the years but I wonder what conversations CY and QL have had that we don’t know about which are going to have a bevaring on what happens. The monologue at Sister Lan’s grave is important afterall it took overcoming two road Blocks (another metaphor?) for them to get there.

This episode left me feeling like some of the players are following a script we are part of for their own ends: the dad, the delulu sister, Shi Yuhao, while others are playing a script we are not yet privy to: QL, CY, QT and maybe even Xu Wenshu. The latter group appear to be bending to the former but are they really?

Changyang again says there is no such thing as a straight path to the end, so we understand our leads aren’t on one either. Qinglang doesn’t like the Winding mountain roads yet that is the path this relationship has him on. No more visual emphasis of this than the overhead shots of the Winding roads, and in this episode it was the stark, barren trees like lives stripped bare. And the metaphorical shot of QL climbing that circular staircase. Way too many layers to take in all at one.

And finally Changyang again says people always fail because of their assumptions, linking back to my first thoughts. Even an audience.

And please, no more Qinglang in a fetal position. That was the heartbreaking shot in this episode.

and a couple of interesting hints, like the twin flames thing. also the god of death worshipping in the mountains…
Yeah it is obviously significant but I can’t join those dots either. Without death there is no new life. A very simple sense of reverence, Changyang says. But death of what ?

Pass the wine Jackie.
