Exactly. The drama shows how multifaceted people can be. Someone who is kind to his wife like Fu HaiLan, never taking concubines even when his wife could not give birth (this is huge deal during those times) could be so cruel to the nation just to complete his own agenda. It’s fascinating.

The story was captivating throughout, but I wish they’d given us a longer ending. Even an extra 10 minutes would have been enough. We never saw Chen Yan Yun receive the acknowledgement and rewards he deserved, nor did we get to see them as a couple after all the drama and the outcome. Ye Xian , I secretly expected his death, but seeing him pierced , I cried and hope d he’d only be injured and could survive. Ultimately, he died gloriously and just as he wanted.

Chen Yan Yun is so underrated because even in the end, it’s clear he was a visionary when he chose to take up his mentor’s book. Others might have disagreed, seeing it as the work of an evil man, but he understood that Fu Hailan’s policies weren’t the problem and could serve a greater purpose. It was his actions and power hunger that were evil.

Gu Jin Zhao was strong throughout the drama and incredibly wise. While she may not have been able to fight in war, her intellect was one of the best I’ve seen in a drama.

One thing I like about this show is how it portrays relationships as not so one-dimensional. Chen Yan Yun was angry and maybe even hated his nephew, yet he cried bitterly when he committed suicide. He also tolerated his teacher despite the disappointments. Ye Xian was jealous of Chen Yanyun but held him in incredible high regard. Towards the end, he thought of him as a teacher and friend, trusting him along the way. Yan Yuan also had great fondness for Ye Xian and was heartbroken at his death.
Gu Jin Zhao’s love for Yan Yuan is evident as she’s willing to take poison and die, which is incredible considering she values her life.
She cried bitterly for Ye Xian, her true friend and I hope no one criticises her for crying like that when he died. Too many dramas portray detachment of second male leads who were genuinely good to female leads, as if ignoring the significance of one relationship diminishes the meaning of another. He was her best friend and held a special place in her heart. As her best friend, his death was truly heartbreaking.

Overall, it’s incredible drama, and I hope they give us some special episodes, even if it’s just 10 minutes.

His character is literally 18 years old so yeah...he is a young guy, of course he wont look buff and manly (plus he is also sick)

From now on, Ye Xian won’t be the one making things difficult for our ML lead couple. His act of stepping aside in front of the wedding procession demonstrated his growing maturity and understanding. It’s also a subtle signal that he’s no longer pursuing Gu Jin Zhao. Even bowing his head so she wouldn’t see him and feel hurt.

The Chen family is next on the list. Before dealing with Fu Hailan, Chen Yan Yan and GJZ must first clear them out. Still waters run deep and the nephew’s silence worries me.

Chen Yan Yun is an incredibly versatile character, along with all the leads. So far, things have been going his way perfectly. I have no doubt this next chapter will be his toughest challenge before finally confronting the monsters and with GJZ by his side, I’m sure he’ll overcome it and triumph. Ye Xian should just be adopted by these two (I joke but not entirely). I hope Ye Xian and Yan Yun will eventually team up to fight Fu Hailan and protect the kingdom.

Absolutely! When people see a woman cry for a man they automatically think of romantic love. However, this drama demonstrates that love takes many forms and they’re all equally important. GJZ’s loyalty is incredibly high so it’s understandable that she would cry for a true friend.

The videos or the fact its now 40 episodes?

The new trending ship between YY and YX is making me laugh so hard. I have seen like 10 videos on rednote 😂 .These two episodes were perfect, so interesting and I am so glad they are giving us 40 episodes cause I cant imagine them finishing this in 36.

Without spoilers, can someone tell me how much they have changed from the novel? Is it completely different or is it largely the same with small amendments?

Yes, she never saw him romantically and honestly gives him more grace than others because she understands him. For Ye Xian, her actions are interpreted as love but based on the teasers for the next episode, she’s going to explain things properly and give him a much-needed wake-up call. I hope their friendship isn’t damaged and Ye Xian can be a true friend to her afterwards. However, I have no doubt Ye Xian isn’t going to be the villain there are too many other characters filling those shoes 😂

You explained this perfectly. The show has done an excellent job portraying different types of Love and how that intertwines with each person’s character and philosophy.

People will always have their own opinions, but on this platform I have barely seen much negativity. The only place where it shows up is Rednote. Most of the criticism focuses on the age gap or the fact that it is YY’s second marriage. Even then, the majority of comments are either praising the actors’ skill or expressing sympathy for the characters’ journeys.

From my perspective, sml ships will always exist, but for this drama the pushback feels unnecessary. No other couple was ever in the running, and that has been obvious from the very beginning. People also should not judge anyone who enjoys the characters just because some viewers are toxic shippers.

Yes exactly. She seems him as mirror to herself and a true friend and that’s why she cried so intensely not because of romantic love but true friendship. However YX couldn’t tell the difference between the two. They are both a similar age and younger than the ML but YX is significantly more immature that GJZ. He has alot of growing up to do and he needs to do it fast because if he doesn’t the next fight between Fu Hailan and ML will be catastrophic (my guess)

Finding a dramatic character interesting and entertaining to watch and wanting to see how their journey develops doesn’t mean defending or justifying their actions nor does it necessarily mean it’s due to their looks. Grey characters have always been popular and funnily enough that’s why I also like YY because he is also a righteous but grey character too (in some areas)

Guys when people say that they like Ye Xian, they aren’t saying that they like him for the FL. He’s an interesting character one that combines childishness, loyalty (he has helped the fl and ml too) and potential.
This is why YY ( & the emperor) is also determined to protect him and his family. The Ye family are too important in the realm especially when Fu Hailan has all the power.

I think these next two episodes are going to be the episodes where he finally let’s go of the biggest part of his obsession and starts growing up because he has no choice now.

I actually think the one we should worry about are in the Chen Family with YY brother and nephew and and of course, his teacher.
