Some good points there ... for me it is the slow creep of 'westernisation' / "Hollywoodisation" into the scripts that has put me off. I really love the unique cultural mindsets/psychology/symbolism, imagery and world building behind Asian story telling ... even the musical scores can be wonderfully different like the kabuki interjects etc ... all of which is such a wonderful contrast to western story telling and why I got into it in the first place.
This is an intriguing article. I noticed myself watching fewer Korean dramas lately. Don't get me wrong there are still some excellent Korean dramas. However, it's true that there's something different.
I still find difficult to find dramas able to match the humor and/or storytelling of Crash Landing on You, Chicago Typewriter, first season of Arthdal Chronicles, My Country, to name a few. Maybe Korea is getting Hollywood influence, thus making its dramas less interesting than they were before? It's weird to see some writers glorifying "going to the US" in their dramas.
Anyway, I found this article an interesting coincidence of what I have been noticing myself.
I got turned off kdramas due to toxic fans who sabotage other actors' dramas. My enjoyment of a kdrama I loved was traumatically spoiled by arguments with haters of the drama here in MDL. I also got turned off by what kdrama industry seems to think is good acting - over-acting. Actors who are cool and don't overact tend to get snubbed in acting awards. Frankly, I cringe when I hear kdrama actors yell. Why would I want to be subjected to such abuse? Toxic fans can have their kdramas. I'm not anymore as fanatic about kdramas as I used to be. Nowadays, I watch 2 or 3 a year compared to more than 10 a year before. Currently, I'm checking out cdramas and I actually like that actors are cooler, with nuanced acting. However, toxic fans also abound, downrating cdramas and leaving bad reviews on dramas of actors perceived as competitors of their favorites. It spoils the enjoyment of cdramas as a whole. So I'll probably go back to western shows.

i would like to say if you are borred with kdrama world .Welcome to the vast world of c dramas .c dramas are the best . chinese dramas genre like xinxia wuxia have the best CGI and effects watch c dramas they are lot better than k drama . i had watch more c dramas than k dramas tbh world of immortals ,martial artists ,travellers ,emperors they are fascinating i would reccamond you to try c drama world

Agree on streaming platforms, because I like my dramas like how they were before, with a beginning and an end. Whatever the end is, happy, sad or open, as long as I get closure.
The lockdown actually had opposite effect on me. It made me less interested in kdramas and moved on to cdramas instead. With more time to spare, cdramas were perfect with their everyday releases + fast track. Esp for historical ones, cdramas have much better visuals and variety.
Since then I haven't been into kdramas like I used to before. I'm even watching more thai and jdramas now than kdramas.
K-dramas seem to have suffered from becoming too popular, and hence too pressured to succeed while being different. They gave us some really likable characters that eventually, after the audience became really invested, faced some serious situations and overcame them.
Now, they almost immediately go over the top with some element (usually involving sociopathic, Biblical Cain levels of bullying) that creates too much tension to watch easily, never allowing the audience to get invested first. I actually started watching K-dramas because there was some leveling of brutality that allowed them to be at first escapist and then, therapeutic as they faced conflicts. The only K-drama genre that consistently focuses on introducing extremely likable characters seem to be their shorter BL dramas.
I haven't been able to transition to C-dramas yet, finding many just hard to follow and , instead discovering what I used to enjoy in T-dramas (Tawainese and Thai). Those I mix them with J-romcoms, that mostly seem to have contract marriages or forced cohabitation, I get by.
Kdramas have become repetitive that’s just the truth between melodramatic revenge dramas, thrillers that run the same plot and romances that become quite stagnant nothing really stands out anymore now bare with me as I make this comparison. Chinese dramas on the other hand have something special not to say there’s no flaws especially with long episodes, blocking creative difference and such, the reasons why cdramas I believe are flourishing is because of how creative they have to get to get around bans, they have wuxia/Xianxia plots that are soooo for the girlies who love fantasy and romance all that angst BUT they also have modern dramas that are fresh compared to kdrama modern romance dramas which always feature one type of setting we have cdramas spanning the career world: aerospace engineering, firefighters, military, and many more that I cant quite remember right now. To be honest I’m not really a fan of modern dramas nowadays especially when it comes to kdramas cause as a long time drama watcher I know the plot like the back of my hand but cdrama modern dramas intrigue and draw you in whether by featuring a profession and a part of life you never really thought about or by introducing old tropes in new ways. Kdramas will always have a special place in my heart but I fear it’s time for a new direction.
I love drama for the romance and it used to be full of romcoms with great chemistry, even if it had clichés, it was well done and the relation between the main leads would carry out the show no matter the plot context. Nowadays the focus is more on the (often boring) plot, chemistry is kind of supbar, there is no climax basically so it becomes boring and lost interest makes me eventually drop It's funny because I used to complete EVERY single drama, now most drama i diligently fast forward to complete. Only a few are good enough to get me to the end pleasantly
