Oh noo...too bad, the show is quite good in my opinion. But well, not gonna force you to watch if you have had…
What the other replier said! I usually assume the best looking dude is going to be the male lead, and to me that was obviously Ning Yunshao. Their chemistry was off the charts as well, whereas the actual male lead felt a little lacking to me, and only having seem him in minor/villainous roles before, there was no point where I was like "ah, yes, this is obviously the male lead." It sounds so rude imo, but he had big second male lead energy... ah well.. The female lead is gorgeous enough that I may return to this drama some day, but as is I'm too sad about the whole thing.
So uh, the guy I thought was the male lead isn't the male lead, and it's made me lose all interest in the drama.... But like, WHY did I think he was gonna be the male lead? Why did I think it would take them five episodes to introduce the actual male lead? I'm a dumb dumb. But now I'm a sad dumb dumb. (If I had accepted the actual male lead at the start, I would have continued to enjoy this drama, but now? NOPE.)
I'm not so upset by the ending for its' fake-out BS, but there are quite a few things they don't address that have me kinda annoyed. For one: You thought this man was DEAD and you're gonna just give him a lil hug like that? I'd be tackling him to the ground ffs. A full run and jump hug. That man would be on the ground from the force of my hug. I'd be looking at his face, hugging more, look back at his face, hug more- her reaction was so like; Oh, he's alive!. Second: That's all we get? Two scenes? Was the guy busy with another drama or something? No, "hey, why the fuck did you pretend to be dead?" scenes? No reunion with the rest of the crew+ahjusshi? No second time skip of them being married or w/e? Third: He never found out that it was her music that he listened to the night he ran away. Her piano playing as she mourned her father. They made sure the characters knew about all the other little connections between them, I definitely thought they would address that. Fourth: They never addressed the fact that (and maybe I'm misremembering bc I watched this drama over the course of it airing and then only just finished it) the dude from her father's company totally swindled her out of her inheritance? I know there were loan people after her but wasn't that resolved, and it revealed that there was actually still money there that was hers? I don't know. I'm annoyed. It was still a pleasant enough drama, but I'm annoyed.
I found the editing and tone a little cluttered and messy, but not irredeemably so. SJK is an old fave, so I'll watch this until the end.
I am excited to watch the leads become a super power couple, gotta be honest? They're both really likable, and I can anticipate them having great chemistry once the romance gets going.
I also admire the tone and content of this drama- its definitely something different from your typical crime/lawyer drama. I look forward to it, but Im not expecting perfection.
I didn't realize there were gonna be 20 episodes! I assumed it'd be a 16 ep one. I hope they can keep the momentum, this drama is so damn hilarious.
But man, watching this, I've come to realize just how much I crave a k-drama with unabashed LGBT content. Imagine an LGBT sageuk? I'd be able to die happy
Had a bit of a rough middle/endish bit, but the stellar first 10 episodes and the FABULOUSLY satisfying ending, in addition to the short and sweet runtime, make this an absolute win in my books. I wish it was longer because of the ridiculous chemistry between the leads, but I accept it for what it is.
Also, hell this drama was funny? Like, what? SO funny!?
Here for my semi-annual comment to warn anybody looking to watch this that cares even a little bit for decent and respectful portrayals of mental illness, decent writing, non-annoying female leads, or a plot that actually goes anywhere: stay far away from this garbage.
Will she ever stop screaming? What kind of psychiatrist screams all the time? Annoying!
Yup. She is an awful psychiatrist too, for nearly the entire time she acts like some random person completely unequipped to do anything for anybody. This drama is pretty terrible anyway, but Hwang Jung Eum and her incessant screaming really disappointed me in this role compared to another HJE/Ji Sung drama I've watched.
First ep gave me a panic attack bc while I love horror, jump scares are downright dangerous for me. Probably not that scary and not that substantial, but decent enough if you're desperate. I imagine other episodes rely on jump scares as well?
So I'm about halfway through this. (finally getting with the program and watching recent popular dramas instead of just like, rewatching BBJX. Lol.) And I just feel the urge to say that while I dont know the exact details, I obviously know the trajectory the drama is gonna go at this point, and that while they don't end up together... I really feel like Fuheng is Yingluo's soul mate. This isn't a love triangle with a clear winner and loser, it's the choice she would make with her heart and the choice she'll make with her head.
I love this drama! I think despite his personality disorder, he really does care about his wife. For a sociopath, people tend to be valued depending on ehat they can do for a person- in his case he seems to believe he values her quite objectively because she keeps his father at bay, but of course there is a reason she does that! Because he feels comfortable and happy with her. He loves her in the only way he knows how. It's interesting to see them make sure we know that he hasn't killed anybody- not for certain. It gives me hope that this might not end as sadly and tragically as it might otherwise. Of course I do love a tragic ending.
I feel like he just reached his big break because of King, and now he's enlisting before he can ride that wave and really make a name for himself. Unfortunate. I hope his career can pick back up when he returns.
My theory is that anybody who watched City Hunter immediately called the episode 13 "plot twist." Of COURSE that was Lee Min Ho in that hat and mask. Of course it was. There's no mistaking that silhouette. Lmao.
Also, even if this drama completely turns to garbage in it's last episodes- not that I'm anticipating it will- I will always appreciate it for it's shameless anti-Japanese imperialism pro-Korean narrative. A drama about a utopian Korea where Japan and the US minded their own goddamn business and let Korea do it's thing? We have no choice but to stan.
Plot twists I saw coming since episode 1: THE ONE AT THE END OF EPISODE 13. (This is a good thing. The payoff is sweet.)
They're slowly unfolding the delicate plot they've built up and it is so satisfying. I genuinely do not see where all the negativity for this drama is coming from, unless we're talking about the heavy handed product placement.
